Ja, I never ONCE blamed the system for where the Sharks are. He/she is making assumptions and is (as always) super sensitive and likes to look for drama when there isn’t any.

Or the weakness…bulls and stormers gathered 18-20 points from their two weakest teams. Putting them top. Take a gimme game from either of them and the bulls are out and stormers fourth.

In any case. A real round robin means every team plays each other, HOME AND AWAY. The competition winner is the one that ends up with the most log points. No semi final, no final.
So, we don’t play a real round robin in rugby when we play semis and finals unlike soccer.
With the Sharks not playing the Reds and the Saders, who both end up higher on the log than them, it means that the Sharks were actually NOT HAMPERED in their bid to reach the semi finals or final. Most people will argue that they were in fact advantaged.

The old system was also flawed because it gave a team that ended up in 4th place (maybe 10 points behind the log leader) a chance to surprise in the semi and the final and walk away with the title.
Also, by playing every team just once, it means that you might face some of the stronger teams on their home ground in a given year where your chances of winning are significantly slimmer. There by reducing your chances to make the semi in that given year. So, you see it wasby no means perfect.

Winning may be a habit, yes. But, you really don’t want to tell me that if you play in a weak competition where you consistently win, that you will carry that habit over to a tougher competition. That’s just stupid. I mean, do you really believe that just because the EP team win a lot of games in the B-section of the CC that they will now carry that momentum with them if they play a team from the A-section and beat them? That’s insane. Also, if the Crusaders were playing in the SA conference, I bet my house that they would’ve been on top of the log every year. Does that mean the SA conference is weak also?

It is so easy to make silly comments and then just claim afterwards that it was tongue in cheek if you are called out on it by someone or accuse people of jumping to conclusions when they read the hidden meaning behind the words etc. I don’t buy into that. Sorry.

PS: I’m no big fan of the conference system myself. I just don’t believe in putting the blame on outside sources if my team is not doing well. I was just stringing you along because you are a Sharks fan and because you are trying to blame the system for the fact that the Sharks are struggling to make the top 6. I still believe though that because every team knows exactly how it works before the start of the competition, the system is fair to everyone.

Next. Wining is a habit. By playing in a ‘weaker’ conference (which I think Aus has) you build momentum that you never should have had in the first place.

Let’s now look at the Crusaders. Do you think they would have topped the Aussie pool? Or should I put it this way. If the Crusaders could have played in the Aussie Conference I would bet my house on them finishing top of the OVERALL log.

The system is flawed. The OLD (Super 14) system was NOT because every team played everyone else (the same amount of times) and that was that. This by the way should be enough to highlight the flaws in the conference system.

Play home and away in the league phase as well as the knock out phase with the final at a neutral venue. However such a system will be way too expensive for SANZAR.

We’ve used the system where the top four went straight into a semi final and the two winners play each other in the final, for years. You guys found a reason to complain then also citing things such as travel fatigue, ANZAC conspiracy and some such kak as reasons why SA teams did not do well.

Now we have a conference system, which by no means is perfect. But as I’ve said already, THERE IS NO PERFECT SYSTEM if you combine a league phase with a knock out phase.

You guys should stop trying to “box” a person just because he.she is not your colour and he/she happens to disagree with you.

The Reds were the best team last year and they were well rewarded for their efforts.

THEY WON THE COMPETITION.

This year the Stormers and the Chiefs are without doubt the best teams in the competition. They are already ensured of their semi final places with one round to go.
