Baby Bulls blast past WP
10 Jul 2012
GARETH DUNCAN watched the Blue Bulls score three tries in the final quarter to secure a 47-27 win over WP in the U18 Craven Week day two feature match in PE.
It was a closely-contested first half, which saw WP hold a slender 27-26 lead at the break. However, a strong finish to the match saw the Blue Bulls record a comfortable win to set their path to the 2012 unofficial final.
Outside centre Jurie Linde, fullback Jaco Hayward and wing Marcus Kleinbooi ran in three tries in a space of 12 minutes, while the schoolboys from the Cape failed to add a point to their tally after the break.
The opening stanza of the match was an attacking feast. WP grabbed three tries, while the Bulls scored four. However, the former led thanks to the boot of flyhalf Handre Pollard, who added three conversions and two penalties.
It was a messy start to the second stanza, as both teams struggled to hold on to possession. But the WP resilience faded as the Bulls picked up momentum and eased to victory.

I thought the school players of WP are the breeding ground for the bulls?
Something not making sense.

Gareth, I wish you’d drop this “stanza” cr ap when referring to the second half. It’s just bloody pretentious.

Bulls backs starting with their physically stronger scrum half and centers as well as more explosive wings with a full back who thrust straight through the WP midfield like a hot knife through butter numerous times were far superior to the WP equivalents..
Bulls backs were far more devastating through the tackle and ripped huge holes in WP’s defenses… So much for the supposed superior physicality and rugby ability of the Paarl schools over the rest of the country.. Perhaps WP should have enlisted a few souties from Bishops, Wynberg, Rondebosch and some obscure rugby schools instead.

The problem is that there are too many Paul Roos (Stellenbosch) players in the team.

So much for super star and mercenary Pollard. How on earth will there be a place for him amongst theetter than the quick silver backs of the Bulls?

It’s amusing how the disgruntled WP crowd are somehow trying to connect the WP team’s loss today with Pollard having made a bad decision to go to the Bulls. Thereby somehow trying to work in an ”I told you so.”
The dots aren’t quite connecting though. The logic’s just not there.

The WP team was disappointing- They have a few very good individual players but did not play well as a team, was not always committed in defence and let a few tries in through half hearted tackling . I think there is something wrong with the coaching as this team is not playing anywhere near it’s potential.
It must however also be taken into consideration that Pollard injured a thigh just before half time and despite staying on the field he was not the same player anymore- could for example not take the line-kicks- and from then on it was more or less one way traffic.

@BreakdownBoy(goodstuff)-12: Not sure. But we need some variety in that squad.

Variety for the sake of variety?
Interesting.

@Tacitus(Deucalion)-8: He is moving to the Bulls, so how can he be expected to beat some of the players he is soon going to be roommates with? Funny how he “injured” his thigh…
Also the Bulls have François Steyn on the bench! More scandal!
If the Bulls can make Pollard the International Flyhalf he promises to be, then I will accept the loss of him for us WP supporters with some hope for the future.
If they turn him into another Morne Steyn Im going to be in the moering!
Have your say
