Bulls snap up Lions loosie

Grant Hattingh has signed for the Bulls, with the uncertainty surrounding the Lions’ Super Rugby future having influenced his decision.

Hattingh represented WP at age-group levels and Maties in the 2011 and 2012 Varsity Cup tournaments, before joining the Lions in April. He made his Super Rugby debut against the Brumbies and has since been a regular in the team.

However, the Lions’ uncertain Super Rugby future meant Hattingh could not refuse the Bulls’ offer and the 22-year-old will be playing his rugby in Pretoria for at least the next two and a half years.

Watch the emotional stormers claim him as one of their own in another awkward show of male anguish.

@galileo, roundness, union, coach…(i_love_u_bakkiesbotha)-1: Really? So how does Saru plan to put six into five?

@>^..^< katman(katman)-2: As far as I know he’s not from the Western Cape. The Stormer’s supporters gripes are usually with players that grew up in the province and then get snatched (usually by the Bulls are part of their player stockpiling program) by those with deeper pockets.

He was only a short term replacement for the Lions as Whiteley and Rhodes were out for superrugby – a very good prospect this kid is. At 2.01 his best position may be 5 lock.

Will the Bulls’ Vodacom Cup bench be influenced by this signing?

@TooMuchRugby(TooMuchRugby)-4: I dunno. I get the impression anyone who ever set foot in Cape Town on a high school rugby tour or a holiday or a visit to the grandparents is considered “one of them”, and a national day of mourning is declared when they start playing rugby elsewhere.

Not a bad signing in my opinion…

@willievz(willievz)-7: He’ll probably end up playing varsity cup for Tukkies and then get recruited by Tana Umanga for the ITM. He is after all English speaking and doesn’t appear overly Calvinistic.

Grant is a jhb boy, now crossing the jukskei to find out how it feels to win a game. His time at the pk lions would’ve left him mentally scarred.

Very talented kid this Hattingh…but bad move…

Bulls stockpiling indeed & little good it’ll do.There should a salary cap as well as fines/luxury tax for exceeding the cap.Game needs to be run more professionally. This is ridiculous.

    Bulls:

    Flanks:

    Spies
    Stegmann
    J.Potgieter
    D.Potgieter
    Tecklenburg
    Arno Botha
    Adonga
    Adendorff-SA u20
    Liebenberg-SA u20

    Locks:

    W.Steenkamp
    Kruger
    Flip
    Mabeta
    Hess

He’s going to be playing for Tukkies/VC cup…Even CJ Stander was like f*ck this.

now run the player injury list for all the big unions and ask yourself just how bad is this behaviour.
its fair to say some unions are potentially out of the playoffs because of key player injuries.

the bulls plays a type of rugby which lends itself to high injury numbers.
why is planning around this such a bad thing.?. in fact it would be stupid not to?

The days are gone where you can feel patriotic about your team, in a provincial sense. It is pretty much club rugby now like soccer in england. I have to say i like the fact that only South Africans feature for the Bulls…Adongo was Kenyan right???

Good move by Hattingh and the Bulls. Quality loosie and a quality team unlike the Lions. Dont agree with the notion that the bulls are buying too much players , they just lost Adongo and Stander for starters
