Triple blow for Sharks
15 Jul 2012
The Sharks will be without Frans Steyn, Pat Lambie and Pieter Steph du Toit for their wildcard play-off fixture against the Reds on Saturday.
Fullback Lambie and lock Du Toit picked up ankle injuries during the 34-15 victory over the Cheetahs and will not be part of the 24-man touring squad.
Head coach John Plumtree also confirmed that the Sharks lost their appeal to have inside centre Steyn available for selection for the knockout rounds. The Springbok joined the squad after the cutoff date of 1 April, making him ineligible.
Sharks touring squad – Willem Alberts, Meyer Bosman, Jacques Botes, Anton Bresler, Craig Burden, Marcell Coetzee, Keegan Daniel, Bismarck du Plessis, Jannie du Plessis, Wiehahn Herbst, Paul Jordaan, Ryan Kankowski, Louis Ludik, Jandre Marais, Charl Mcleod, Frederic Michalak, Beast Mtawarira, Lwazi Mvovo, Odwa Ndungane, JP Pietersen, Cobus Reinach, Steven Sykes, Riaan Viljoen, Tim Whitehead.

Actually the fact that both the Reds and Saders, as last year’s finalists, are there again this year after both teams were heavily involved in the 2011 RWC is agreat testament to the quality of their rugby programme and thus thrilling, exciting, quality rugby.

@Neil(Neilanate)-200: “And Nils, my friend, the worst the Final will be must surely be Chiefs or Reds vs. Crusaders.”
Tastes differ. For me any of them would be a great final as that means Crusaders have smashed Stormers in their backyard yet again.
“Where is that well understood Latvian faith?”
Eh?

What a silly debate
But a few corrections to your flawed analysis
A) rugby was pro from 1996.
B) hiding behind that it was Western Province that played in 1996 and not the stormers is flawed. The stormers was just a branding and marketing thing. The sharks use the same brand for cc and super rugby and stormers don’t.
So you are excluding it because of a name and because natal were quicker at getting their branding sorted
So 1996 counts
C) excluding 1997 because western province / stormers failed to qualify because of a poor 1996 currie cup is also flawed.
I have no idea what the resultant stats would be if the sharks 96 and 97 was correctly included. I don’t care a lot either
Your defense of excluding 96 and 97 just makes no sense.
I don’t understand why so many posters spend more time trying to insult or take down their local rivals an they do discussing rugby.
It’s like schoolboys competing for schoolgirls. Or worse.
You are grown ups. Act like it.
I refer not only to this prolonged rant by you but also your tone on other threads.
I also include many other posters in that category.

Hotheads Unite, hier kom groot watookal, so who’s ready for some action then
Zane Kirchner, now there’s a thing, next Bok full back in the making, (though its no secret I would draft him in at right wing almost immediately like next week for that matter) Zane Kirchner for Bok right wing against Argies and NZ in Cape Town, no sweat, then we’ll be onto a good thing.
Morne Steyn, next best thing to peanut buttered brown bread, first incumbent in Bok setup as 10,12,15 backup, now thats the way to go.
Burton Francis, now there’s a brown skinned Nasty Booter if ever I saw one, big boot, big heart, big ballas, and ready to run it if and when required, not quite ready for the big time but another season or two and he’ll be pumping at 10 with Wilton Pietersen of FS the next brown skin Jouba to hit the scene at about the same time.
Francis is a better 10 than Steyn,

Wie de hel is Wilton Pietersen? Skoppelos nwas weer lekker gesuip gewees klink dit my, almost 4 years to the day and his hangover still lingers!

Um Woody no ******……………its about winning percentages…………….not a very clever argument. So by your argument the Stormers have played less but are only one behind the mighty Sharks? Foot in mouth?

Lambie becoming a sick note like CJ!

One has to laugh at the angst and desperation exhibited by some of the Sharks fans on keo.co.za like Wooden Spoon. After quoting stats going back into ancient history to prove the Sharks are mightier than the Stormers he then offers the following two pearlers.

@papashanga(papashanga)-86: the Sharks won 2 from 4 away this year. Can you explain please how this makes them “not good travellers”?

How about this stat FROM 1996 TO 2011:
Sharks:
1 quarterfinal?
6 semifinals?
3 finals
= 10 play offs
Stormers:
4 semifinals?
1 final
= 5 play offs (50% less than the Sharks)
Comment 90: the Stormers won 3 from 4 away this year. Can you explain please how this makes them “not better travellers”?
Comment 139: All this genius offering from Wooden Spoon proves is that the Sharks are twice as likely to choke in play-off rugby than the Stormers.
I neglected to do so earlier so need to offer my congratulations to the Stormers and their fans for finishing first in the final log standings.

Lol, more people from down south trying to tell me that 25 beats 26! Are they born dumb in the Cape?
I am laughing at all the extreme ducking and diving on diving on display!
26>25=Sharks more wins!
FACT!
I love it when the Stormers fans get so agitated! It’s naaice.

I find this childish inter provincial “my di ck is bigger than yours” quite pathetic. Not sure what started it all but I’m old school and even though Stormers are my side I’ll support sharks, bulls and lions against any foreign side, and proudly so! Sure I’ll support the Stormers when they play the other saffa sides but not with the vitriol and spite that is seen here. Some blokes need to grow the f uk up! On both sides…
16 Jul 2012, 09:25 am
Woody, let it go.You have lost the argument fair and square. In England football managers get fired based on winning percentages. Most of us accepted your 26-25 ratio, but what you seemingly can’t or refused to get into that dckhead of yours is that the Stormers have the better winning percentage, thus making them the top traveling team.Enough now.

Sharkie supporters lay off the Capetonians.
You can’t argue with people who never travel anywhere else in South Africa because they have the “Cape Town blinkers” on. So, understandably so they simply just know about Stormers and Cape Town. Like Americans who just know about the USA, doesn’t make them bad people but makes you feel sorry for them.
The sad thing is they miss out on soo much beauty and culture differences around the country simply because they do not know they exist. A Cape Town friend asked me the other day… “What do you do if you go to the Drakensberg?” with a blank look on his face???!!! Ha ha. And was wildly surprised when I told him the Drakensberg peaks on average were 3 times higher than Table mountain.
Cape Town is a beautiful place too and I will support the Stormers against any other foreign team in a semi’s or final. The water’s a bit cold though ey?
So on all sides…. Bulls, Lions, Sharks, Stormers, Cheetahs… how about a little love all around?

@Charging Rhino(Charging Rhino)-213:
The comparison between CT and USA is a very good one. It does explain a lot. The distances iin SA are so great compared with Europe that it is understandable that a certain type of insular and aggressive person, some of whom have made this site their home, display xenophobia when it comes to people from outside their immediate region.
You certainly get it in England,Scotland and Wales, particularly Scotland(and my great grandmother was a McSomething)
As long as it’s just abuse with the protection of anonymity,it’s pretty harmless and quite entertaining. So don’t let me put you off (as if) . It’s a lot of fun as long as I never have to meet any of those afflicted with this form of surrogate warfare-mentality. Vloek on! Now back to work.
