cooper was fortunate to be suspended for 1 week only.
everyone has opinions and thats what they are-opinions.
look at the tackle-then look at the result-and what do you get- a red card.
there is no place in the game for those who cannot play it fairly-and its up to the refs to punish severely those who offend.
but then you get refs who would prefer to remain popular and dont do the correct thing.
they to should be punished.

What is it that you don't understand? Transie has NO problem with Saffas supporting the Crusaders or ManU. Racist motivations by any chance? With a name like "transformation", no doubt this is a factor....

Hypocrite? Very clearly yes.....

There are so many questions for our little fish to answer?

Will we ever get a straight answer from the fish?......

your little flip flop has been detected...you hate "capecrusaders" but find flimsy reasons like <b>"many SA fans don't give a ratsass about soccer"</b> for the natalMancs.

I would like to thank Transie and Nama for supporting and confirming my point of view.

Let's micro-analyse Transie style:

@<a href="#comment-2183982" rel="nofollow">Transformation(Transformation)-85</a>: : <i>the point is, it is about choice - whether motivated by politics, indifference or not wanting to associate with ineptitude and as wpstormerbok mentioned above – archaic style of play - those who “detest” other people’s choices need to learn & accept that!

done.</i>

Yet Transie appears to take issue with people "choosing" to support Man U over a local team.

You cannot have it both ways Transie.

@<a href="#comment-2184007" rel="nofollow">Transformation(Transformation)-109</a>: <i>my point, again, is if you can use “poor quality” as reason to make a choice, a “capecrusader” is free to use ANY reason to make a choice as to what rugby team they support because clearly being patriotic can be superceded by indifference to mediocrity, so can it be by prejudice or even perception of prejudice!

this is also a copout of note! Skeppie or someone here on the blog mentioned the other day that they went to school and played cricket with neil tovey (bafana cup of nations winning captain) and said their school headmaster did NOT even announce neil making the SASchool Soccer team in assembly because the school did not recognise soccer as a sport!

and let me tell you nama, local football might be rubbish now but it wasn’t always like that, the dave watersons, shane mcgregor, gordon igesund, jomo sono, jimmi joubert, garth allardyce, noel cousins, les grobler, gavin “stability unit” lanes of this country played quality football but STILL some of these “many” south africans did not support the team. in 1996 cup of nations i watch EVERY bafana match – bar the egypt game as i had lectures – we were quality, we were beating all comers!

copout!</i>

So which is it? Are you upset by the "cop out" of South Africans not supporting local teams? (which you clearly are) Or was this post of yours just a smokescreen and in fact you fully endiorse their right to choose any team they wish to support, as you do in the context of rugby?

What's good for the goose is good for the gander. But let's not forget there was a time on Keo and Sharksworld (before you pinned your colours on the Kings) that you proudly donned the black and red of the Crusaders............. some could say this is slightly hypocritical of you............

I also feel it is a "cop out" in the rugby context for a SA citizen to "support" a NZ team... I'm surprised you could have diametrically opposing views for two separate sporting codes....

@<a href="#comment-2184026" rel="nofollow">nama1(nama1)-116</a>:

<i>True that.
Kobus Wiese was actually dumdstruck on the program Super Rugby (on kykNet) when a young white laaitie phoned in and said that he supports the Crusaders nd that Carter is his rugby hero. It was left up to Ashwin to make further conversations with the boy because Kobus was absolutely stunned.
I’m sure this laaitie does not support the Saders for historical reasons. It must be either (1) the way they play the game or (2) the fact that they win more than they lose.
I’d say the reasons why Capesaders support their team is most probably because of one of the three reasons I give here or a combination of the three.
In any case, I don’t know why people like Woody still harp on about it. Free country, free choice.</i>

I can tell you why in this case and it is your option number 2: "the fact that they win more than they lose".

In every population of human beings no matter where they are found in the world, a small minority will follow the "glory teams" with the wind. They flip flop between whichever team is then successful. You see, it is far easier to support a winning team, isn't it? These flip-floppers are to be despised. They have to spine. They have no loyalty.

@<a href="#comment-2184036" rel="nofollow">Transformation(Transformation)-120</a>:
<i>well, some in our country like/love rules ONLY if THEY make them!
woody earlier: “Funny that it is the Crusaders who seem to get the support.
What about the Highlanders?
What about the Rebels? They play exciting rugby?”
nama: ever seen saffa West Ham, Everton, Nottingham Forest or Luton Town supporters? before the arabs bought city and pump close to 300 million pounds i’d never seen a man city top in SA </i>

Again, THANK YOU for confirming EXACTLY what I have said above. They are Crusaders fans because the Crusaders WIN. And they choose the Crusaders because this team currently gives them the chance of giving the biggest "FU" to those they have an issue with.

Seeing as most of them come from the Cape and the local side there has won 14 out of 16 games this year - there can be no argument as to the quality, winning rugby is quality rugby and it pulls in the fans - it has to be down to more. And you are being duplicitous if you suggest it is not down to race and those people living in the past. They are very vocal when "their" team is in town and it is all to do with giving a big "FU" to the "establishment". This is why the rugby and soccer examples cannot really be compared.

sure I think the Reds know his value! If Ewen just said lets get on with it then what message does it send to Quade when he thinks he should not have got it based on the tackles he saw over the weekend...sonny bill williams on Corey jane and Steyn on a cheetahs player. non of them got cited yet his was much less.

Greg peters said the judiciary can invite an ex player for advise the single man judicial proceeding did not do this....although he did not have to!
OIf one wants consistency then Greg Peters needs to emily that single offices for all proceedings. anyways it is done and I think the yellow card was enough!

The judicial officer must have been a waratah supporter!!!!

Rugby great speaks out to defend Crusaders
MATT MARKHAM AND TONY SMITH

Last updated 05:00 19/07/2012
Canterbury rugby legend Fergie McCormick has leapt to the defense of the under-siege Crusaders, claiming accusations the seven-time Super rugby champions are serial cheats is "well off the mark".
Hurricanes coach Mark Hammett, a former Crusaders hooker and assistant coach, also said he did not think his former franchise were deliberately flouting the game's rules.

McCormick, an All Black fullback between 1965 and 1971, was not surprised at comments made by Mark Reason in his column that ran on stuff.co.nz yesterday.

Reason, a Fairfax columnist, slated the Crusaders as cheats.

The piece generated interest across the world yesterday with patriotic Crusaders fans venting their frustration in all possible avenues.

The article attracted more than 500 comments on Fairfax websites.

The Crusaders were approached to comment but were told McCaw and head coach Todd Blackadder did not wish to respond.

But McCormick, a former Canterbury Rugby Football Union president, went to bat for his beleaguered buddies.

Canterbury's most capped player had one simple question when queried about Reason's column: "Is he related to a John Reason who used to write back when I was playing?"

After it was confirmed Mark Reason was the son of John Reason, the late rugby correspondent from London's Telegraph newspaper group, McCormick said the column finally made sense.

"He is a lot worse than his father. John was a bit of poison pen back in the day and was always having a moan about something to do with New Zealand rugby and the All Blacks. As far as he was concerned, we were always wrong, and it appears that has carried on through to his son as well.

"I think his comments were well off the mark."

Reason was also critical of Richie McCaw using bullying tactics against referees to sway decisions in the Crusaders' favour, and various other indiscretions around the rugby field.

McCormick leapt to the All Black captain's defense.

"In my opinion Richie is so quick at some of his play that the refs can't keep up with him," he said.

"The good referees know how to handle that well, but some don't and it shows up."

The Bulls - who play the Crusaders in Saturday's Super rugby playoffs at Christchurch's AMI Stadium - yesterday declined to comment.

Head coach Frans Ludeke said Blackadder was "a personal friend" and the Bulls had "huge respect" for the way the Crusaders "conduct themselves on and off the field".

Hammett said he had not read Reason's column but he "certainly wouldn't have thought" the Crusaders were cheats.
He said if referees were being influenced, they "need to be working on their skills to ensure they're not being influenced".

Hammett said it was human nature to "get away with what you can".

He said openside flanker McCaw always said he approached the first couple of rucks to "test out" the referee's interpretations in the tackle area "as any good No 7 will".

but dont you think the principle only ends up making them look vulnerable?
it kinda suggests they were desperate to get him back?

The Reds gave up trying to go for the appeal yesterday not as todays article suggests.
the Reds were doing this for the principle as there was a sharks vs cheetahs tackle...that did not get cited or any further action.
Sonny bill williams clothes line on Corey Jane...they were far worse than Quades!

why are there many capetonians supporting the All Blacks and Crusaders!

did not the white man remove people from their residences and settle them in squaller. these same people who saved hundreds/thousands of dollars to buy or build their house/properties were just removed by an apartheid regime. that regime had a support base that supported the springboks.
now we have some people shouting why after 18 years do the population always asking for gimmes...tell you why. the past regime gave the whites hand outs (gimmes) and those gimmes have not been gimmeeed back!!!
