The assertion that Peyper is the “right fit” for the Crusaders-Bulls finals is even more ludicrous. Peyper is promising but overrated. He was the referee at Pretoria when two Bulls alleged they were eye-gouged by Crusaders players. Not a shred of evidence was brought forward to justify the allegations. SANZAR has white-washed some unacceptable gamesmanship by the Bulls. The allegations came when the Crusaders were well on top in the match. After the allegations, the tide of the game changed. On the back of eight successful penalties out of 10 attempts kicked by Morne Steyn, the Bulls won 32-30. There was also a controversial and wrong shepherding decision by Peyper (on advice of an assistant referee) overruling a Crusaders try near the end.

If Oscar Pistorius had his legs – would he qualify for the able bodied Olympics ? Probably – But you dont see him being rewarded for something he doesn’t currently posses – through misfortune or otherwise. He cant run the times so he is not included. Simple as that. There are better runners than him as he is currently.

Whatever the reasons the Kings have been ‘disadvantaged’ and if their opportunities have really been fewer than the Lions then address those reasons. That is the solution, and not to summarily and forcefully promote them into a SPORTING competition where the goal is to be competitive and therein doing, deliver entertainment.

The Kings will not be competitive – we all know that as they do. Otherwise they would be prepared to play a promotion/relegation playoff, but truth be told they could not beat either the Lions or the Rebels. And the only entertainment we will get will be the massive scores that will get piled up against them.

As I have said all along. South Africans cant help themselves but buy into this entitlement nonsense. It is programmed into our brains now in all facets of life, but I am very disappointed in the antipodean component of SANZAR for allowing this. It devalues the competition, and gives the South African teams an unfair advantage because our conference with a weakling like the Kings will become by far the easiest in the competition. I am amazed they allowed it.

the 5 mentioned is,PSDT, Jordaan, Peet Marais,Reinach and Coetzee, although because of their good play they now play in the seniors Reinach i think will be the 4th junior to force his way up as our reserve scrummy

Kind of puts things in perspective that its Super rugby that the Kings have gone to straight off the bat, instead of first pushing to be included in the Currie Cup. So, Currie Cup not seen as a stepping stone at all.

I see the Sharks U19 and U21 both had good starts against the Cheetahs. This is good news. Although I have lost touch somewhat and dont recognise most of the names on the team sheets – I think it does open the door for us to see some new players for the Sharks in the Currie Cup this year.

There are some promising names, like Gouws Prinsloo and we should see more of Jordaan as well. Should be good. Not quite the old power struggle that we had in the old days, but still worth it.

Sharks might have to play some of their younger guys from the U21 group. That’s what makes the Currie Cup interesting though….
