Basson blow for Boks

Basson blow for Boks

Springbok wing Bjorn Basson will be sidelined for six weeks after undergoing emergency surgery on Saturday.

According to the Blue Bulls website, Basson sustained a tear to his intestines in Saturday’s play-off match between the Bulls and the Crusaders.

Basson was subsequently operated on and news from the Bulls’ camp is that the winger will remain in hospital for five more days. It will be a further five days before he is fit enough to fly home to Pretoria.

It’s been confirmed that Basson will not return to the rugby field for at least six weeks. While the injury will have no impact on the Bulls’ Super Rugby campaign (Saturday’s defeat to the Crusaders knocked the Bulls out of the tournament), it will limit Basson’s involvement in the Rugby Championship.

The six week layoff means that Basson will miss the Boks’ first two Tests against Argentina.

Sounds like a horrible injury… good luck to him in the recovery….

But, not really a blow for the Boks. He’s not really been performing like last season and Habanna and JP are actually performing, added to that you have Mvovo and Aplon. I reckon Basson is probably wing nr 5 for the Boks at present.

Ouch….gotto wonder why it took such a long timeto take him off.

    A huge blow indeed,,, ;)
That was a playoff match, not a regular game at Loftus and Kaplan wasn’t going to protect Basson or riots would have started in Brisbane
Both Chiliboi and Ndungane left as soon as they took their first hit,
    Spies stayed on though :D

We wish him a speedy recovery.
Very unusual injury he stayed on for some time after it, tough kid.

Actually good that the doctors found it in an MRI or Scan
It could have been a serious situation

    @Hondo-3

You’ve had a few Klippie have you H?

The game was in Christchurch (not Brisbane), and the ref was Peyper (not Kaplan),

Hope your head is Ok in the morning :-)

A perforated intestine can be potentially fatal. Unlucky for him as it’s one of the more unlikely injuries in this sport

@3 Pitiful. You, on the other hand, have a perforated mind

@viewer-9: Nope. I think it’s a combo of a perforated mind, and a perforated bowel (The s h y te he dribbles on here has to be coming from somewhere…..)

@Hondo-3: I know you enjoy the attention Andre, but when someones health is involved your attempts at garnering a reaction become rather sad.

Get well soon Bjorn – glad they figured this out sooner rather than later.

Get well soon Bjorn. You too Hondo.

Sorry that he’s injured but its hardly a blow for the boks.

JPP and Habs, Mvovo and Aplon.

I see Bjorn as 5th choice maybe.

What a horrendous injury! Hope he’s ok.

Why is this news such a big blow to Bok rugby? He is just another overrated blue smurf who should never have played for the Boks.

This is good news for someone like le Roux.

This year we’ve had lacerated livers, perforated intestines and didn’t someone end up with a tear in their eyeball? It’s a dangerous sport

Congratulations to Mr Amla, great knock and well deserved.

While I sympathise with him because of the injury, it’s not really a loss for the Boks. Actually more like a blessing in disguise.

it would not surprise me in the least if the buls wings were intentionally targeted for injury. very simple strategy really to nullify a key attacking component and part of the bulls ‘well known’ game plan.

and if there’s a team dirty enough, it’s that one

    hope the chiefs go through

cannot stand to see that filth on a rugby field

my last season of super rugby

am saying my goodbyes early, sayonara folks…

will blog ocassionally from time to time on any cc or bok thread (excluding games against the dirty cheats).

I hate to say it, but the headline is misleading. Basson is not an international winger. The Boks will not miss him.

Get well soon Bjorn!!! What a horrible injury!

    On a brighter note…

Well done Big Easy and Hasham… With the Sharks win the only better result would have been the Bulls pulling off an unlikely win, but they were not up to standard and didn’t deserve to go through…

Let’s hope the Proteas can finish this off today…

Only two weeks of torture left and at least there will be a SA side in the final with a 50% chance of the trophy…

I’m expecting the Sharks to come out guns blazing…

Hope he gets well but certainly not a blow for the Boks by any stretch.

@Gumboots-22: What an awesome day for SA sport yesterday. Sharks having a cracker and manshaming the Reds in front of 40-000 booing Crims, first SA triple ton and Ernie winning his fourth major (as many as Mickelson)
