Franks bros switch for Kiwi semi

Tighthead prop Ben Franks will start ahead of brother Owen in the only change to the Crusaders for Friday’s play-off in Hamilton.

Ben replaces Owen in the front row after the latter started against the Bulls last week. Coach Todd Blackadder has made no other changes to the side that thumped the South Africans.

As reported earlier this week, Kieran Read is unavailable because of a rib injury. Richie McCaw will continue to play No 8 in Read’s absence while Matt Todd will retain the No 7 jersey.

Crusaders – 15 Israel Dagg, 14 Adam Whitelock, 13 Robbie Fruean, 12 Ryan Crotty, 11 Zac Guildford, 10 Dan Carter, 9 Andy Ellis, 8 Richie McCaw (c), 7 Matt Todd, 6 George Whitelock, 5 Samuel Whitelock, 4 Luke Romano, 3 Ben Franks, 2 Corey Flynn, 1 Wyatt Crockett.
Subs: 16 Quentin MacDonald, 17 Owen Franks, 18 Tom Donnelly, 19 Luke Whitelock, 20 Willi Heinz, 21 Tom Taylor, 22 Sean Maitland.

@cane-2: I think there should be a poll for who bends the rules the most on the field. Crusaders will win this hands down.

    1. Richie
    2. Franks Bros
    3. Whitelock

Between the Franks brothers and the Whitelock brothers, the Kiwi sides are more incestuous than the Welsh.

I’m hoping the Chiefs can win too Willy.

Also would like the Sharkies to win…………………………………….but that will be very difficult, given the opposition and the travel.

    @Skeppie-12:

    1) Chiefs have been my number Two Team for many a year.
    2) If Chiefs win …………………….we are guaranteed a fresh and New Champion.
    3) They have failed in the past, only because of injuries and a lack of depth.
    4) They are battlers, always have been. I like battlers.

    ;)

@cane-13: Fair point! Regarding 1) though, haven’t the sharks always been your No2 team?

@cane-9: The Boks also had ‘food poisoning’ before the Aussie game, but did not run to the press. I don’t believe there was any direct poisoning as Laurie Mains fabricated. But if you eat a kebab from a shabeen on a night out and get the runs and you can’t keep your underpants from turning a pale shade of brown, you bare the consequesces.

Now Bryces actions were clear for the whole world to see.

Owen’s the premier tight-head in SR. Would have thought he’s a better bet against Taumalolo in a pkay-off as opposed to Ben, who’s essentially a loose-head. Time will tell.
The Crusaders are a very well coached team & Todd has introduced a very practical & hard edge to their game. As a result, they’ve lost the languid continuity with ball in hand that was a hallmark of the Deans era
