SBW won’t let emotion rule
24 Jul 2012
Sonny Bill Williams isn’t allowing the prospect of Friday’s semi-final being his last in New Zealand, or his connection to the Crusaders flood his thoughts.
Williams has signed a lucrative deal with Japanese club Wild Knights, and will return to rugby league after a season with them. Williams also excelled for the Crusaders last season, before making the shift to the Chiefs, further fueling the emotional elements of the semi-final in Hamilton.
However, the midfielder said none of those factors were burdening him.
‘I don’t want to get too emotionally attached to it, because it could be my last week here, but I’m just trying to turn all those emotions into motivation,” Williams said.
‘I want to come in, do all my work and try and build like I haven’t done it before – try and tick all those boxes. And then hopefully run out there on Friday night fizzing and just do my role really well.’
Williams warned of the Crusaders’ impressive play-off record as well as their experience. ‘The Crusaders have got internationals all over the field and are in really good form so we’re going to have to play better than we ever have,’ he said.
He added that one of the keys to success would be creating and taking chances. ‘That’s something we haven’t done in the last couple of weeks and that started against the Crusaders [in their last league-phase meeting] in that last five minutes when I didn’t pass the ball when we had a two-man overlap.
‘Just little things like that have crept into our game I guess and that’s why it’s been good to have these two weeks to assess ourselves and now know what we have to do.’

@Te Rangatira-2: kia ora… youd need to go to a different blog to get away from the hating..
Disappointed he is going to japan and then back to league, was just starting to get a natural feel for the game and understand the nuances… could have become one of the very best if he’d stuck with it… and with Conrad smith in doubt for the RC, we may be looking at a nonu/Ellison midfield?

@William Webb Ellis is now at home-16: Mine is a purely medical concern for you, Poeps. I care very deeply about your wellbeing, and you seem to be wobbling again. But typically the Angels go unrecognised.
24 Jul 2012, 09:53 am
@>^..^< katman-17: no wobble here mate, all is good thanks, appreciate it but you need not bother, your false concern would best be served as real concern for your leeus-ers…though Atreides was telling me Im not liked here, which really really really really really really is worrying..
not being liked by meatheads imo is a good thing..

I did read the funniest little random thought on a Kiwi site last night. Posted by a Kiwi: “Aucklanders are proof that Australians can swim”.
I happen to dig Aucklanders, and I find them NOTHING like Australians, so I guess there is some ‘provincialism’ in the land of the long white cloud as well.

@16 I’d probably just call it quits and walk into the sea if I ever typed a paragraph like your last one. Do you realize just how sad you are?
