Dangerous breed of Shark spotted swimming towards the Cape… A red alert has been issued by lifesavers to swimmers as this one is on a murderous feeding frenzy…

Meteorologists, on the other, hand predict storms the likes of which have never been seen before to descend on Cape Town, especially around the Newlands area…

“They will last ’til after 4 August, for some reason,” said Simon Gear.

Sharks to travel to Cape Town early this week.

    ____________________________________________________________

Die Burger reports that coach John Plumtree’s men will arrive in the Mother City on Thursday, instead of their usual Friday arrival time for Saturday matches.

“This time round we want to be there a little bit earlier,” said Plumtree.

“The travelling is something we don’t really talk about. We feel it’s familiar territory – we’re use to a bit of jet lag and can adapt accordingly.

“The guys are drinking enough water, resting well and are slowly getting ready for Saturday. We focus on what’s ahead – not what happened in the past.”

As a Bok fan really hope the stormers win, so many key players in the Sharks side. Need some rest and less travel. ;-) good luck to both teams and hope its a cracker. JPP to score a winning try ;-)

Of course the Stormers gonna win…

    - Key Players back… Particularly Fatty Vermeulen, the Promised One a 8.
    - No injuries
    - Home turf advantage especially at “Fortress” Newlands where they haven’t lost all season
    - Fanatical home support
    - Week of rest for tired bodies…
    - Sharks have literally lost a couple of days in travel time and Jetlag
    - Sharks have niggles and injuries…
    - Stormers have the leadership of the Bok Captain

Yup, Sharks are absolutely no hopers against the Stormer might

  • 16.>^..^< katman: Reply to this comment

Both these games are incredibly hard to call. You can put forward a “rational” argument for just about any outcome here. Which is why you must just trust your gut feel.

And the katman’s gut says that the Stormers, at home, will just pip the Sharks. Sorry saarkies.

Down in the outhouse of the world, I think the poor Chiefs are going to have an Adam Scott moment – having led for so long, they’ll lose it by a tiny margin at the very end.

Which will set up a Saders/Stormers final. And being in Cape Town, this should see the support pretty much split down the middle. But we can count on some of the Saders juveniles (e.g. Guildford) to do something stupid on tour and distract their focus, thereby handing the game to the Stormers.

And then it will be like the Poms after the 2003 WC. Knighthoods from the ZilledeLille Axis of Botox, open top bus tours and the Freedom of the Waterfront for Coetzee. Keo and his minions will party like it’s 1999 and summarily be arrested on 76 different charges, some of which will include dwarves and peanut butter.

Thus spoke the katman, and so it was.

@Heavens Game-15: Sharks are packed full of Boks…

But as we know, especially from the “knowledgeable” experts on this site, many of Heynek Meyer’s Bok selections are overrated especially compared to those that did not don Green and Gold this year… Of course Meyer is obviously blinkered that he plumbed for some overrated talents in Black and White compared to the supremacy of Blue and White…

As it is repeatedly said, which team tops the log this year… and which team is Conference Title holder for 2 years in succession… Of course, its the Stormers… They must be doing something right – all this finals rugby… before the finals…

The Sharks though, are as inconsistent as a French team with PMT… The no hoper Dynamite versus the consistent Blue and White…

It can’t possible happen that they actually scrape through and fly away to the final against the Chiefs or Saders… This cannot possibly be good for SA Rugby… Surely?

Naah, of course the Title Holders and Top team are going to win…. They cant possibly not…

    Infarkenconceivable

I have a feeling the Chiefs will win on Friday morning. Saders are not looking as sharp as they should. As for Sharks and Stormers. Honestly at this stage have no idea. Can’t wait for Saturday.

    Player vs Player…

    1. Beast vs Malherbe or Brok…. Beast has technical deficiencies which will be picked up and taken advantage of by the Guru Proudfoot…
    2. Bismarck vs Liebenburg and Fourie… Logic says Bissy is superior but with a tag team of two excellent hookers, they will probably put the Battleship off his game.
    3. Jannie vs Ginger Ninja…. Of course Jannie is overrated and against the Baby Bok World Champ he does not stand a chance
    4. Etsebeth vs Alberts or Sykes… The boy wonder will have definitely got over his Bambi in headlights during Stormers freakish loss at KP… No chance for Sharks here.
    5. Bresler vs Bekker… COme now. Bresler who?
    6. Daniel vs Kolisi… One a Bok who was obviously overrated and could not perform against the Poms and one who is by miles one of the best loosies in Super rugby… Obviously a case of Meyer’s Black, white and light blue blinkers that he is not a Bok
    7. Coetzee vs Elstadt… The former feted by some as the next best thing to Superman, by others dull and uninspiring… No match winner. The latter, the successor to Bakkies, but at blindside flank nogal… Of course Elstadt will prove a point to Meyer.
    8. Vermeulen vs Kanko… Vermeulen according to some on Keo is the best damn no 8 since Teichmann in the Green and Gold…. Actually better than Teich to NOT wear Bok colours… While Kanko is a poormans Spies showpony
    9. Duvenhage vs McLeod… Duvenhage obviously should be a Bok… He is nothing if not consistent… McLeod is French and should never have been made a Bok by Divvy
    10. Grant vs Fred… Grant should be a Bok many say, and they are right – he has a kick conversion rate within 30m of 80% plus… He also defends like a Trojan and never puts pressure on his backline by passing the ball. Fred…? Well he’s French
    11. Mvovo vs Habana…. A flaky fast but positionally suspect pretender vs a Bok legend… No chance.
    12. Whitehead vs De Villiers… A second rater who couldn’t make the Stormers run on side vs the Bok Captain… Absolutely no contest.
13 JdJ vs Jordaan… A Bok vs Baby bok… Jordaan will be scythed apart by the best back not to be made a Bok this year.
    14. JPP vs Aplon… Tough contest and although JPP has being the best wing in Super rugby, on home turf the courageous Apples will be geared up to show him more than a few tricks
    15. Peterson vs Ludik… Ludik farken who? Ludikris!!

Coaches: AC, World Cup winning assistant coach, conference title holding coach for 2 years running and coach of the tope team this year vs Dumbtree Plumtree and his stooges… Couldn’t coach a School team and with the “talent” available (although pointedly not as talented as the Stormers as shown above) are a disgrace to the Black and White… I mean there are Facebook pages by faithful Sharks fans calling for Dumbs removal and replacement by he eminent Jimmy Stonehous…

FFS and some of you fools still think Saturday is going to be a close match, never mind a match at all…

Of course the Top side are going to Walk this One at Fortress Newlands

How dare the Lucky Sharks and their Johnny come Lately fairweather supporters actually even imagine that their team can just pitch up to Fortress Newlands and win a semi-final against a Team that has lost just 2 games this season…

Like they dared to think that their Johnny come Lately team could even hope to provide opposition against the unmatchable might of Northern Transvaal at Fortress Loftus in 1990… According to a Light Blue bucktoothed legend “Never to be Repeated in 100 years!”…..

    How fuckendare they!

Who the fuckdo they think they are… FuckenDynamite???

  • 27.Heavens Game: Reply to this comment

Damnedfucken right the Sharks are going to come and have a drunkenpiss on the porch of the “Top” side…

Stormers have been playing “Finals” rugby the whole season – with nothing to lose except imagination and try counts…

Sharks have been playing Finals rugby PROPER the last 3 games now and they have been scoring tries to boot in the process…

11 tries in three games…. They are a Black and White Blitzkrieg excitement machine… How the fark do you defend against them… Tries come from everywhere, tightforwards, loosies, locks, midfield, out wide….. even Freddy the Frog has sneaked in when nobody is looking….

I suspect the Sharks dont even know where they or who will score tries… But score them they do… And over the last three games, its over 3.5 a match against some pretty stingy defences… except the Cheetahs of course, but lets not forget that the Cheetahs held the “Top” team to 16 points with 1 try scored against them just the week before…

Now, a question should be asked…. If the Sharks score 3 tries on Sat, which they are more than likely to do, considering the last 3 “Finals” games they have played… Can the Stormers score more…

Yes, the Stormers will score a try… but there are doubts here, especially with the sudden metamorphosis of the Sharks D from barndoor to mousetrap… Nevertheless lets say Stormers score 7 points, and the Sharks score 19 points from 2 converted and 1 unconverted try (Freddy’s not perfect)…

Will the Stormers be able to make up a deficit of 12 points just by penalties…?

Will they be dominant enough in the set piece to earn those four penalties From matinee Steve to make up the deficit?

Will the Stormers be dominant enough not to concede any themselves…?

I think the answers to these questions is NO… Despite jetlag and away play for the Sharks…

And to those who say, “This is different – this is knockout rugby”, the answer is “But the Sharks have been playing knockout rugby for 3 games already…. No difference….”

Therefore the answer to this perplexing result is simple… The answer is Dynamite.

    BOOM!

  • 28.munkiboi: Reply to this comment

man for man the sharks are a better team than the stormers, and aside from losing to the lions (ha ha ha ha ha) they finished the season strong and were devastating last week.

but i feel that for SA rugby the stormers need to win this. having the sharks players, especially the boks turn around and fly back to NZ for a flogging will be completely pointless.

and besides, Stormers have been more consistent and havbe made winning a habit.

heart says stormers. but boy have the sharks been awesome when they been good. just dont know which sharks team will pitch this week.

The odds are 1:1.45 for the Stormers to win
It’s about right, Walsh will turn the ball over just enough times in the Sharks’ half to ensure a Sormers victory by Grant’s reliable boot, Steve Walsh knows how to make it happened in a low key, undetected manner, Jonker will provide some assistance too.

@Heavens Game-36: You know, I reckon you are much smarter and maturer than you put out with your posts.

Just so you know, we Stormers fans are indeed nervous about the next few weeks because we will have to beat teams that have taught us a few rugby lessons in recent years. Stop patronising us with the attempted nerve-inducement through reverse psychology laced with childish sarcasm.

The Stormers have won 21 of their last 25 matches against South African sides since 2010. Two defeats (20-14, 25-20) against the Sharks standout because of severity of the hidings the Stormers received on those afternoons in spite of the close scorelines. The Sharks were something to behold.

Don’t mention the Crusaders because they were the cause of a sudden spike in alcoholism among Stormers fans in 2011. They are not our hoodoo side simply because they are way more successful than we are, and as such, a beating from them relates perfectly with their record against every other team in the competition (except the worst Australian team for that particular season and against the Bulls at Roftus  ). However, they are mental stumbling block.

The boys from the Cape are in for a hell ride against a team spitting “hot fire” and another renowned for being the playoff assassins (should the first challenge be surmounted).

In keeping up with your sarcastic tone, you better hope the Stormers don’t peak on the Sharks and blow them out of Newlands. If that happens, please save the congratulations because we do not tolerate about-turns.

  • 40.sharks_lover: Reply to this comment

25 July 2012 (12:30) – The Sharks have made just one change to their starting line-up ahead of the Vodacom Super Rugby semi-final match against the Stormers on Saturday, with Paul Jordaan failing a late fitness test.
Patrick Lambie was also in a race against time to recover from a recurring ankle injury, but will not be playing, and with Jordaan’s troublesome hamstring injury keeping him out of the match, Tim Whitehead will play in his position at outside centre, with Meyer Bosman coming in to partner him in the midfield.

Cobus Reinach misses out as Sharks coach John Plumtree has chosen a five-two split on the bench, with Jean Deysel returning to the side to add extra firepower amongst the replacements. The final change sees Riaan Viljoen named in Bosman’s empty place.

The Sharks are expecting nothing different from the Stormers that they have delivered all season, a side that have reached the top of the log through disciplined defensive play and the highly-reliable boot of Peter Grant to convert opportunities when they present themselves. Although they boast a hugely exciting backline, the Stormers have interestingly scored the fewest number of tries in the tournament, but have done the necessary damage to win almost all of their games by sheer dominance.

“They don’t change too much in what they do, but what they do is really efficient,” explains John Plumtree. “They work really hard defensively, their defence has been talked about enough, it’s a wall that’s hard to break down. Their lineout is really big, they have an unfair advantage with some monsters there, their setpiece is something they rely on, they gain a lot of confidence out of winning a territory game, they don’t mind kicking out because they attack the opposition lineout.

“There are trends about them that are really consistent. They have a real belief in what they do, their leadership is clearly very strong because they get out there and play consistent rugby each week, that’s why they finished top, that’s why they’re in a situation where, if they beat us, they get a home final.

“They also feed off the fact that they have a lot of good players but don’t have as many Boks as some of the other teams. That motivates them as well.”

  • 58.sharks_lover: Reply to this comment

@Heavens Game-57: Let me alsoi get into being positive

The side is very much to be expected, and even though i am like some not always the most positive re Bosman, he has actually been quite good this year, specially in defense and distribution for example.

What many might not realise though is he does give us another kicking option that we lacked last week if Freddy had a bad kicking game? luckily that did not happen, what if the tries dont come this weekend??

Bosman if i recall has hardly missed a kick when he did kick for poles,he also takes the longer kicks which freddy cannot anyhow

Then on the bench we have more kicking cover in Viljoen,

And Deysel on the bench shows he is intent on the Sharks winning the collusions and rucks etc

I also think deysel can assist Bissy in the fetching part of things

So even though we have lost 3 players in Jordaan, PSDT and Lambie/ i think we can still make it, even though its a very hard task

Hellsteeth, but that was a comical allfalldown with tryline begging.

He has many points to prove and yes you are right about his kicking… He is a good option.

Maybe the Stormers think he is a weakness and in the process play him right into the game…. In a good way.

@Heavens Game-60: You tried that ploy last year at Newlands. 4 tries to Nill – 3 of which were either over or around Bosman.

@Mongril……I will do what any good supporter does and blame it on the ref if HE MAKES US LOSE……I mean really, it is a given that we going to boom bang decimate you guys and then I will drink copious amounts of of Amarilla by myself as I have told every one that Saturday afternoon till early evening no visitors, phone calls and I am not available to go anywhere. Then I will have to attempt being gracious in defeat and that is as difficult as saying sorry or admitting I am wrong. oh which by the way I never really am, ask my husband ;-)

Yep, good game plan there. Not innovative by any stretch of imagination, but effective none the less.
