I didn’t mean to put Pearl Jam down earlier. I think they’re a great band and Vedder is really good. I just don’t think they were THE band of the era. In terms of impact and dominance, it would have to be Nirvana. And in terms of creativity and changing genres (and sheer awesomeness), it would absolutely have to be The Pixies. And that’s the final word on the matter.

I guess it’s a matter of taste. As far as a general wider popularity was concerned (sales and accolades/rewards) Pearl Jam dominated Alice in Chains and was arguably THE American band of the 1990′s even outselling Nirvana in the process. Eddie is …well he is Eddy and Mike McCready is imo one of the most underrated lead guitarists ever.

And even today they are still “Alive”…….
