Kings stretch log lead

The EP Kings extended their lead on top of the Currie Cup First Divsion table to five log points following their 34-10 victory over the Griffons.

Both the Kings and Griffons headed into this clash with an unbeaten status, meaning victory would be pivotal in the race for top spot in the standings. And it was the men from the Eastern Cape who did the job as they powered to a comfortable win.

The Kings delivered a strong first-half performance to hold a 24-0 advantage at the break. The Griffons scored two consolation tries in the second stanza via loose forwards Francois Uys and Nicky Steyn.

Flyhalf George Whitehead was the star for the victors as he scored 19 points via a try, two penalties and four conversions. Wing Marcello Sampson, flank Thabo Mamojele and inside centre Tiger Mangweni also crossed the chalk.

Meanwhile, the Pumas and Leopards picked up big bonus-point away wins over Border (51-18) and the Valke (51-22) respectively, while SWD and Boland shared the spoils in a 21-21 stalemate in George.
