All Blacks coach Steve Hansen has confirmed that centre Sonny Bill Williams is eligible for the Rugby Championship.

Williams will be leaving New Zealand Rugby later this year to take up a lucrative club contract in Japan. After that, he will return to rugby league.

It was believed that, for this reason, Williams would not be considered for the Tests against Argentina, Australia and South Africa, but on Friday NZRU CEO Steve Tew said the injury situation in New Zealand had prompted a rethink.

On Saturday, Hansen, the All Blacks coach said Williams would be considered. The squad for the Rugby Championship will be announced on 5 August, a day after Williams competes in the Super Rugby final for the Chiefs.

That is great news for rugby viewers, but not such great news for the opposition of the All Blacks. Oh well, we will beat them with or without if we play our best.
