Whitehead to miss Hamilton decider

Whitehead to miss Hamilton decider

Tim Whitehead has been ruled out of the Super Rugby final with a broken hand but Pat Lambie and Paul Jordaan have passed fitness tests.

Whitehead sustained the injury in last Saturday’s semi-final against the Stormers. The Sharks are now without two No 12 options (Frans Steyn is ineligible), and so Meyer Bosman could start at inside centre against the Chiefs.

Lambie (ankle) and Jordaan (hamstring) didn’t feature last week, but are expected to play in Hamilton.

Sharks touring squad: Tendai Mtawarira, Bismarck du Plessis, Jannie du Plessis, Willem Alberts, Anton Bresler, Keegan Daniel (c), Marcell Coetzee, Ryan Kankowski, Charl McLeod, Frederic Michalak, Lwazi Mvovo, Meyer Bosman, JP Pietersen, Louis Ludik, Craig Burden, Wiehahn Herbst, Steven Sykes, Jean Deysel, Jacques Botes, Odwa Ndungane, Riaan Viljoen, Patrick Lambie, Paul Jordaan.

Jordaan to outside centre, JP back to wing Bosman inside, Ludick back to full back and lambie on the bench

    @tuffa-2: Lambie at 12

  • 4.tuffa: Reply to this comment

Hmm.. I was considering it, as I don’t rate Bosman AT ALL, but Pat has been off the boil since he got injured. Also, he hasn’t played 12 since last season if I’m not mistaken. Think it would be a big risk against SBW. Pitty about Whitehead, he and Jordaan were really starting to look good together!

I would be very keen to have Lambie at 12, however against SBW, Im not so sure. Pity we cant have Steyn against him

  • 6.Bok fan: Reply to this comment

O and well done whitehead, about time the Sharks made a decent centre recruit.

Really happy we have Jordaan back as a replacement, very balanced runner

    @Bok fan-5:

Spot on. If it was against anyone but SBW, I would start Lambie at 12.

But then again, he might be better than Bosman.

  • 13.CenturionShark : Reply to this comment

We could really use Frans Steyn. What a clash that would be with SBW.

  • 14.Staal: Reply to this comment

    Well done Sharkies.

Saturday you will have a Bull supporter supporting you guys in Hamilton. You deserve a win – komaan!

    See you there.

    Go SHAAAAAARRRRRRRKKKKKKSSSS!

    Bring it home!

  • 17.KingRiaan: Reply to this comment

If Lambie does start at 12, it will bring a whole new dimension to the backline with two fly halves in 10 and 12. Both of them able to make snap decisions

  • 18.sharks_lover: Reply to this comment

@KingRiaan-17: Problem is it aint been tested as a combo before

I just cant see Plum going that route in the final

Also Bosman even though he tripped over his own feet against the Reds has been brilliant in defense.

Now to have Freddy, Lambie and jordaan in a row i think will be a huge problem, no strong ball carrying center there at all.

Other side of the coin it would give the Sharks a more snappy backline

    So who knows???

meyer, oh meyer… give us that one good game we know is in there… somewhere… like that one cc blinder you had.. all those years ago…

If Fransie could have played and faced SBW?? could have been huge

  • 21.THE MAULER: Reply to this comment

Big blow… Whitehead has been one of the stars of the backline… But Bosman has stepped up when needed and kept SBE in check last time…

It is reported that in the cape on sat heaps of b uttplugs was s hat out in unison when the final whistle went.On Sunday morning there was wailing and crocodile deathrolls performed with duvets firmly clamped between the legs.

    @NZINCHINA-28:

Lambie took down Nonu with ease, so SBW won’t be a problem :) It’s the runners off him we have to watch.

Ja ne,die stormers supporters kon laasweek nie hulle phoesbekke gehou het nie.huilerig en stil nou.

  • 32.John Galt: Reply to this comment

JP will play 13 again for sure. To get over the advantage line and hopefully nullify any players running off SBW shoulder.
    Lambie will play 12.

Back 3 to remain the same.
Jordaan to the bench in place of Ndungane.

@CenturionShark (aka LondonShark)-12: True, Bosman does make me nervous, hasnt had any confidence for a while now

  • 34.NZINCHINA: Reply to this comment

Walsh to ref, looks like the Chiefs will be without their captain and go to man in the lineout.

  • 35.sharks_lover: Reply to this comment

@John Galt-32: Cant see that happening John, might not be a bad thing, but yeah

Once or twice JPP lost it in the defense on saturday when he came rumming out of the lines

  • 36.sharks_lover: Reply to this comment

@John Galt-32: Then again Plum did surprise us on Saturday, so who knows

  • 37.stew: Reply to this comment

Stew are you supporting the Sharks on Saturday?

  • 39.mako: Reply to this comment

Lambie would be great at 12, he has a cool head and good distribution. The ball would make it to guys like Jordaan, Pietersen and Mvovo. I’d love to see that!

  • 40.shooter: Reply to this comment

    Sorry Stormers. Cong-rats Sharks!

  • 41.shooter: Reply to this comment

I think it safe to say, SA have a couple of good lock options, of a sudden clubbin variety.

  • 42.Transformation: Reply to this comment

i can’t wait for this game, two teams that want to score tries, even though their earlier meeting in durban was a scrappy affair!

that sharks will have to be clever about managing their energy levels, a clear & clever strategy is necessary as the chiefs will no doubt attempt to run them ragged… no pun intended

  • 43.sparticus: Reply to this comment

Well Done SHARKS !! That was a great win over the weekend by a really great team. I wish you the best of luck and I really hope you will be able to give your best.

As for the Stormers , well , I feel do for the players but the problem really is at Admin and coach level. We played the whole season not to lose instead of playing to win. Simple really , the diffs on Saturday was only at the halfbacks but what a huge diffs !!

  • 44.Puma: Reply to this comment

That is tough on Tim. He has played a big part in Sharks getting this far.

Wish we could call up Steyn now. Doubt we can. So probably see Lambie at 12 or Bosman. Hope it is Lambie. He has been injured for a long time though so not so sure how game fit he will be. Still think he will step up all top players do that. Still wish we could get Steyn. Would be mouth watering to see Fransie and SBW.

Off the subject. WELL DONE CAMERON. Man what a swim last night. World record too. Our first gold medal. Take a bow Cameron that swim was awesome.

Well done Sharks, deserved the win, backing you guys all the way this weekend!
Looking forward to a massive battle between the two form packs in the comp. Going to be fireworks! Such a pity we won’t get to see FS vs SBW.

@scrumfan-46: Thanks bud. Yeah I say so too. Would have been awesome to see Fransie and SBW. We will though in the RC. Seems SBW will still play for the ABs this year. Just would have loved to have had him for this game in Hamilton.

    Lambie at 12

    Leave JP @ 13

    Rest the same

Going to need boot of Michalak,Lambie & Viljoen to control territory

But good things is all 3 are also decent ball players so they won’t JUST be kicking ala Morne

JP at 13 must be left there as Horrell is weak link in Chiefs backs as a midfielder. Robbie Robinson,Tikoruituma,NaiNai-Williams ain’t too flashin air neither

But game will be won upfront.Taumololo,Tamaifuna,Messam were immense for Chiefsand rest of pack stood up well vs Saders.they all but dominated Saders bt only won by 3 points so they aren’t invincible
