Chiefs sweat on Clarke

Chiefs skipper and key lock Craig Clarke faces the prospect of missing the Super Rugby final due to a knee injury.

Clarke suffered a medial ligament strain in his knee during the semi-final win over the Crusaders but continued to play through the pain. However, he is now deemed to have a 50% chance of recovery, although the medical staff are confident they can get him ready.

‘He’ll be on light duties till about Thursday when we’ll make a decision,’ Chiefs head coach Dave Rennie said. ‘While he was warm [during the semi-final] he still got around pretty well, so if we can get it to where it was last Friday then we’ll look at maybe injecting him, strap it up and get him back out there.’
