The former EG Jansen 1st XV coach who was caught assaulting a referee on camera has been banned for five years.
Schalk Snyman was found guilty of assault after he shoulder charged referee Mlungiseleli Mdashe, following EG Jansen’s 24-18 loss to Kempton Park. According to the terms of his ban, Snyman may not be directly or indirectly involved with rugby for five years, with three years being suspended.
Chairman of the Falcons Rugby Union’s (FRU) legal committee Jacques Pienaar told the Beeld that Snyman would be allowed to be involved ‘at other levels’. FRU executive head Jurie Coetzee said Snyman still had an important role to play as he would share the consequences of his mistake with other coaches and pupils and help protect the sport.
