Chiefs prop cited
5 Aug 2012
Chiefs tighthead prop Ben Tameifuna has been cited for a dangerous tackle on Sharks No 8 Ryan Kankowski during the Super Rugby final.
The incident occurred in the 47th minute of the match, which saw Tameifuna hitting Kankowski above the line of the shoulders.
The dangerous play wasn’t penalised during the game, but upon further review, the citing commissioner decided the tackle had met the red card threshold for foul play.
The citing will be heard by Sanzar duty judicial officer Nicholas Davidson.

How about SBW’s “tackle” on Lambie? Oh, that’s right; the ABs need SBW. Silly me.

@kaskioek,
I was watching the game on sky with Kiwi commentators. They seemed to think that SBW shoulder charge was legal. In fact, the comment was something along the lines of:’ well if Lambie didn’t know how SBW hits, he surely does now blah blah.’
I really am surprised to hear of the citing commissioner on the tackle on Kanko. Generally, its not the kiwis who get cited.
I wonder it citations should also happen for deliberate pebalty infringements that the ref’s miss? I really think that this would solve a lot of the heartache we keep hearing on rugby forums.
There would be way less ruck infringements, and certainly a lot less blocking and jersey pulling.

@BULLET-2: After the Chiefs scored one of their tries, Steve Walsh warned them again about holding Sharks players around the rucks and preventing them from defending. That boggles my mind. They scored a try and he saw them doing that – and he had already warned them about it. But he let them score a try. It just doesn’t make sense.
And yes, the Chiefs deserved to win. But still – why can’t the rules be the same for everyone?

@kaksioek-3:
True, why cant the rules be the same for everyone.
I mean Sharks got away with constant offsides, infringing the Halfback a number of time before he touched the ball. Seems you missed a fair bit.

Kaksioek,
Ya, its not even about that. I think that in general, every team has a lot of concern & criticism about how the game is reffed, and if we honestly look at most of the concerns, there is accuracy in them.
Now think of tennis, there is a challenge system. If the player feels something is wrong, let him challenge. The ref can review himself on field. No need for a TMO, he sees the same as the ref on the TV. Seriously, 3 challenges a game. If you are found wrong, then you lose a challenge. If you are correct, then you keep your challenges.
This would eliminate a lot of off the ball niggle, a lot of unnecessary professional fouls, and in all honesty, it would improve rugby 10 fold.
Players are coached to make certain professional fouls, no doubt about it. If the ref’s cannot see all the fouls (and I am respectful that they are human), then lets allow the Captains to have a challenge system. I really dont think that any player will be against this what so ever.
Crikey – I know that Lambie would not have minded that yesterday after SBW’s shoulder charge!
Once again – Sharks lost cause the Chiefs totally outplayed them. Ref had nothing to do with it. My comment is for the benefit of players & spectators.
If this was the case, we might not have bee robbed of 2 potentially decent RWC clashes.
2007 – Boks v AB’s
2011 – Boks v AB’s
This way, rugby actually wins.
Furthermore, I believe that the ref’s will be better off with a system like this.
5 Aug 2012, 12:01 pm
Hurricane – This is where I believe in my system. Its for both Captains.
We would have a whole lot less supporters crying foul due to percieved ref bias.

@BULLET-6:
I am all for a better game. Refs have alot on there plate and personally i would
hate to be one. Only problem with that it will slow the game down.
But of course make it more accurate with calls, Interesting really.
5 Aug 2012, 12:10 pm
@ Hurricane,
I actually think the long term would speed the game up.
Players will not infringe at ruck, be too scared to go offsides, and this will certainly help keep the flow.
Sure, initially there will be some teething, but my pet hate is when a team (any team for that matter), is on the ascendancy, and the ball is slowed down illegally, or there is some form of foul play thats ‘missed’!
It changes entire tournaments unfortunately… (AB’s in 2007 & Boks in 2011)
Imagine how awesome it would have been for those teams to play eachother at the showpiece. Instead, were all left wondering who is best at the RWC’s. Statistics show that since 2003, both had a trophy to show, and both have lost 1 game.

@BULLET-8:
I don’t know if you remember, but the challenge system was trialed in the Varsity Cup for a while.
5 Aug 2012, 12:42 pm
@kaksioek-1: Can you give us an example of a (not high) shoulder charge that was ever cited? Possibly there are some but it seems they aren’t considered as dangerous as high tackles.
It seemed to just be Justin Marchall claiming the tackle was ok, which surprised me. I remember him defending SBW in the RWC semi, claiming Quade may have slipped onto his shoulder, until he saw the replay! Thought he’d learnt from that
5 Aug 2012, 12:56 pm
Those kind of shoulder charges are dime a dozen every week in the NRL. They.re applauded as good clean hits. Its only when contact is made with the head when you.re in trouble.[Anyone see Greg Inglis forearm hit not long ago.]Rugger needs to harden up. Citing someone for a shoulder charge…please.
5 Aug 2012, 12:59 pm
@gonzo-10:
What about Bakkies against the B&IL, when even his victim felt it wasn’t illegal.
5 Aug 2012, 14:30 pm
@David-12: So we agree, using the shoulder isn’t worth a ban? Besides, it wasn’t a dangerous tackle, it was a dangerous clearing out of a ruck. And it was Bakkies
5 Aug 2012, 15:41 pm
He should definitely have got a yellow for it. Not sure if Walsh saw it but Craig Joubert definitely was right there, so have no clue why he never saw it. SBW too should have been cited for that tackle on Lambie.
@BULLET-5: They did try it out once in a Varsity Cup. I think they should try it out in CC and see how we go from there. It has definitely made cricket a lot better and they use it all the time in tennis as well. It would most definitely have benefited us in the quarter of the wc. I would like it to be tried out proper, like I said in our CC.
5 Aug 2012, 15:55 pm
Understood it was tried in varsity cup, but sod that. I want it tried out on live coverage sports where games are properly televised.
5 Aug 2012, 16:01 pm
@Puma-14: Agree and we should try it out in our CC. I feel it will show some refs up. They will need to be on their game.
5 Aug 2012, 16:01 pm
My pst 16 was meant for you Bullet.
5 Aug 2012, 16:02 pm
@Puma-17: pst = post .. Think eyes are crossed from watching too much of the Olympics….hehe.
5 Aug 2012, 16:17 pm
Puma – LOL. A few Sunday beers?
Anyway – I am 100% aligned to you. Make these ref’s accountable/
5 Aug 2012, 16:36 pm
To a Kiwi a shoulder charge is only dangerous when performed by Butch James.
5 Aug 2012, 19:09 pm
Hilarious. Just hilarious.
5 Aug 2012, 22:21 pm
Tameifuna should sit out two weeks for that dangerous hit,another inch higher and it could have broken his jaw. As for Sbw’s tackle, borderline shoulder charge and a penalty and warning was sufficent

@Kea-Cat-20:
And too a South Africa an eye gouge only happens when two Bulls players said so.
6 Aug 2012, 00:06 am
@Kea-Cat-20: youre right, when its performed on a Saffa its all fair game..
ever hit a Saffa in the head? its a futile exercise, no brain to concuss so best to hit them legally..
Taimefuna deserves two-three weeks…
see this site has been one big BOOOOOOOOOOMMM crash opera over the last few days, with the usual suspects now off hiding in France somewhere until the heat dies down… do they have Dams in France? hope they took their wooden spoon to serve themselves a nice dish of cement so they can harden up and face the music on keo when they get back..
Id be upset if many kiwi fans did what many Sharks fans have done, that is disappear after a loss..
to the true supporters like Puma, hard luck mate, your team were valiant in getting to the final but it became a bridge too far…
6 Aug 2012, 00:16 am
well what do you know, a decent thread spoilt by some gutter scumbag doos with an axe to grind. F uk off you braindead kiwi muthaf uker!

6 Aug 2012, 00:54 am
@Hurricane-28: you’ll have to excuse whatever, obviously when you include a smiley it indicates you were tongue in cheek..
the fact Ive had a go at three Saffas (namely HG, Fern and Wooden spoon) while commiserati9ng with true supporters like Puma, has g9one over the little schoolbouys head..
forgive him though, he still cant quite grasp the English language, and thinks his repetitious childish name calling is somehow better ..

@The Donkeys Egg-31:
Yeah that was a classic hit from Keo. Just made me laugh.
6 Aug 2012, 09:52 am
@kaksioek-3:
shocker.
the worst part is that he had warned them twice before that.
the niggle started with the attempted trip on JPP thirty seconds into the game and just carried on from there.
Culmintating in a lovely coconut tackle.

@Te Rangatira-22: Agree

@the artist formerly known as gunther-33: I thought that scumbag Schwalger had nice swinging arm at jannie dup’s face…worse than SBW’s ‘hut”..only chief player i really can’t stand, he’s filth, always has been

@Atreides-35:
Also a kodak moment.
Chiefs were deserved winners no mistake.
Which kind of makes it worse.
