The Springboks have called up Stormers and WP hooker Tiaan Liebenberg after Chiliboy Ralepelle was forced to withdraw because of injury.
Ralepelle, who has played 21 Tests for South Africa, hurt his knee during a training drill on Tuesday. The injury was monitored over the past 24 hours, but the player was ruled out of the home and away Tests against Argentina on Wednesday.
‘We assessed him again this morning [Wednesday] and he will not be available at least for the first two Tests in the Rugby Championship,’ said Springbok team doctor Craig Roberts.
Liebenberg, who was on the standby list, will take Ralepelle’s spot in the squad and joined the group on Wednesday morning. The Stromers hardman last featured in the national set-up in 2007, when he toured with the Boks to Europe and played against the Barbarians.
