Kings thrash Boland

The EP Kings thumped Boland 57-19 in PE in the highlight Currie Cup First Division clash on Friday.

It was the repeat of the 2011 tournament final (which Boland won convincingly in Wellington), but this time the Kings did the business to secure their seventh win of the campaign.

The hosts ran in eight tries, with the returning Luke Watson grabbing a brace. Flyhalf Wesley Dunlop also added six conversions and a penalty.

Boland only managed to cross the chalk on three occasions, which proved to be consolation tries.

In other results, the Pumas downed the Leopards 38-27 in Nelspruit to jump into second place in the standings (they trail the Kings by seven log points, with six league matches remaining). SWD and the Griffons picked up tight wins over Border (33-27) and the Valke (39-36) respectively.

    Mhh, things looking rosey in the Kings world. Time to strengthen your team for next years HUGE challenge. But I am afraid the Kings are being set up to fail!!

    Playing Boland in PE is a long way from playing Chiefs in Hamilton, Reds in Brisbane and Sharks at KP….

    Fark I look forward to the weekly carnage next year…. Actually in some ways, I should be happy the Lions are out – no banana skins for the Banana Boys.

    The Kings on the other hand will be a free bonus point for the Sharks.

    I trust the overwhelming majority of south african rugby fans will support the kings in the super 15 next year whenever they play against a foreign team just a they always (claim to) support other SA teams against foreign teams.

    @wnbb-7: Yes, born and bred. Officially cut all support for all South African teams & sports in 2000 when the ANC-led government introduced the despicable and racist quota system at Currie Cup level.

    Have been a Brumbies supporter since ’97/98 & was wearing my Wallabies jersey when they won the RWC in 1999.

    And please don’t ask me about the Springbok emblem (in all sports).

    @Robzim-12: I originally stopped supporting Transvaal (and the Springboks) in protest at the despicable way in which Francois Pienaar was treated by Andree Markgraaff.

    Seeing as I’d never in my life supported another South African province I wasn’t about to start then and had no choice but to look overseas.

    Supporting a NZ team was never an option; The Reds never attracted me in any way and the Tahs’ colours were (and still are!) too close to that awful blue of the Northern Transvaal jersey so they were also never an option!

    That left me no choice but to take the “New Boys” and I have no regrets whatsoever about doing so.

    Sharks still No.1 But I will support the Kings second, as long as they don’t import the losing Lions players, and stop hampering on about the bulls#$t colour of players.

But you were happy to support SA in the apartheid era when an afrikaans background was almost a necessity in gaining springbok colours?

    BTW, I am English-speaking and agree with your statement about players’ backgrounds; it is almost still the same in SA Rugby, unfortunately.

    @BrumbiesBoy-20: I think you understand the point I was trying to make. I too abhor reverse apartheid.

    However I believe that the Kings issue is not one of those. It is a region full of talent and should have its own franchise. I also think that The Lions should not be relegated. The problems lies in the way SA negotiated with SANZAR and the way we were screwed when melbourne were awarded a franchise. Australia does not have the resources to field 5 super rugby teams. I could go on and on…but bottom line is that our own poorinept sports administrators have led us to the Kings debacle.
