Burden added to Bok squad
19 Aug 2012
Craig Burden has been brought in to cover hooker for the Springboks’ Test against Argentina in Mendoza on Saturday.
This in light of a knee injury that has ruled Bismarck du Plessis out of the remainder of the season. Adriaan Strauss will start against the Pumas on Saturday, with Tiaan Liebenberg playing off the wood. Burden, who has seen little Super Rugby game time in recent years, will be an insurance policy should anything happen to the aforementioned duo.
Keo.co.za can also confirm that wing Bryan Habana travelled to South America with an ankle brace. Team manager Ian Schwartz told this site that it was just being used for safety precautions and the speedster will be fit to play this weekend. Lock Andries Bekker, who struggled with a back strain after the Newlands Test, will also be available for selection.
Meanwhile Dean Greyling (prop), Juandré Kruger (lock) and Jano Vermaak (scrumhalf) were added to the travelling group to provide depth in those positions.
The squad will be reviewed after the Argentina Test before a 28-man group that will travel to Australia and New Zealand.
‘We only finalised the touring squad after the Test against Argentina at Newlands on Saturday afternoon as we wanted to first assess the injury situation,’ said Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer.
‘It’s never nice to leave behind players, but we’re only permitted to travel with 26 players. The players that stay behind will benefit from game time in the Currie Cup and will certainly be in the selection frame when we select the squad for the next leg of the Rugby Championship.’
The 26-man Springbok squad to Argentina:
Forwards (15): Willem Alberts, Andries Bekker, Craig Burden, Pat Cilliers, Marcell Coetzee, Keegan Daniel, Jannie du Plessis, Eben Etzebeth, Dean Greyling, Juandré Kruger, Tiaan Liebenberg, Tendai Mtawarira, Jacques Potgieter, Adriaan Strauss, Flip van der Merwe
Backs (11): Jean de Villiers (c), JJ Engelbrecht, Bryan Habana, Francois Hougaard, Zane Kirchner, Patrick Lambie, Lwazi Mvovo, Ruan Pienaar, Frans Steyn, Morné Steyn, Jano Vermaak

@rangerman-397:
That was why I asked you what your point was.
Kak journalism? You think these okes got a more than 100% increase this year?
19 Aug 2012, 21:52 pm
So…
19 Aug 2012, 21:52 pm
@Transformation-400: exactly.
the argies worked it out ffs.
why do we have no set piece plays beyond bash it up whereas the same guys have been pop passing for the sharks all season?
its bs.
19 Aug 2012, 21:58 pm
@nama1-401: precisely.
we are being told the miners are demanding an increase from R5000 to R12500 but this article says they “used to get R4000 but now get R9000″.
wtf???????????????
sounds like we are being fed bs by tuncs on all sides.
its sad and dissapointing and depressing and scary all at once.

@Transformation-400:
We are probably the only country where 2/3 players have to secure/fight for the ball in rucks and mauls while the rest of the forwards stand outside of the ruck/maul waiting for the ball to set up a new ruck. Meanwhile, all the opposition does, is commit more players to the ruck, push us off the ball and they have another turn over.
This will happen throughout the game without our captain or forwards changing the way they operate at the rucks ie commiting more players at the rucks to secure the ball first.
So freakin stupid sometimes.
You’re right, the AB’s and Aus will have fun against us if we keep on playing like this.

@rangerman-404:
You have to distinguish between the drillers at Implats mines and those at Lonmin mines.
Implats drillers used to earn R4 000 but now earn R9 500, if one can believe this article.
They are not part of the strike afa I know.
Would still like to know if their salaries increased by more than 100% in one go.

There’s a show on bbc2 whether craig from Staffordshire will make it as a Mongolian miner?
Craigs worried about health and safety and ain’t going to get pulled out of this gat in the ground easily with that boep and some heavy-duty winching equipment or a poweful yak..
19 Aug 2012, 22:22 pm
@nama1-406: i doubt it bud.
because if it happened once it would be used as a noose to hang emploeyers yearly.
sounds like the writer was talking out his bumhole.
19 Aug 2012, 22:25 pm
@rangerman-403: i couldn’t believe it either, we had three “attacking” scrums im their 22 & only JUST scored from 1 from that cross-kick & lucky grab by habana.
19 Aug 2012, 22:26 pm
Engrossing stuff – my bet is no he won’t make it as a Mongolian miner.
The world is screwed ekse even beautiful wilderness in outer Mongolia getting stuffed.

Meyer will have to bring some changes. Its disappointing that Kolisi is not in. I would play him. Kruger was outstanding in the English series Juandre Kruger out of the 22. Bekker is hugely unfit and walks half the match. Allthough he was good in the lineouts, he still lost two and when he went off the other two locks also lost 2 lineouts, ie . 4 in total. So we lost the lineouts against Argentine. The breakdown was also poor. With Bekker not contributing to rucks (standing on the wing!), we are incompetent at the breakdowns , as locks should be providing quick ball for the backs. This was better against England where both locks were cleaning .

@nama1-202:
No idea what are you bitching about?
I made the predictions before the Test that:
- Steve Walsh is on the taking and it will badly upset the Argies
- The Argies will maim at least one Boks forward
- That the return leg test will be a blood bath
We shall see net week, I believe they will take out another Bok forward

It will be much worse under a decent referee, that is if there is one under the IRB umbrela

Springboks are playing boring blue bulls **** rugby from 2006, that doesn’t work, Zane Kircher useless, Morne Steyn useless, no backline movement, Lambie should play fullback, or flyhalf. All Blacks will thump this useless springbok team, again, no progress, bringing back Fourie du Preez will not make a single difference. As long as Heyneke Meyer plays 2006 style boring rugby, with second rate bulls players this team will loose. I will have Gio Aplon in that team above Zane Kircher, any day, damn joke. South Africa needs Brussouw at the breakdown, Meyer is supposed to be a thinker, is he so stupid not to see the breakdown as an area of concern. South Africa doesn’t need pure brawn in every position, they need some brains.The breakdown cost us a place in the cemi finals of the world cup, why is Meyer so stupid, does he not see this? The draw against England was unacceptable, they should have won 3-0 on home soil. Another 4 years of **** is lying ahead, this Springbok team in not progressing, it is regressing in my opinion.

@maximus1-414: lambie? bwahahaahha that little twit hasnt exactly been playing well now. these boks are playing no game style anything like the bulls from 2006your opinion is worth a heap of **** so think about that next time
20 Aug 2012, 06:36 am
@maximus1-414: agree with most of that, although I think Kirchner is a more reliable full-back than Aplon (Lambie better than both).
Meyer is going to bash his forward pack into injury. Tough game in Mendoza coming up for you boys.
20 Aug 2012, 07:06 am
@maximus1-414:
I agree with a lot of that and will add some
9 is still a problem and I am not sure Hougaard is the answer there too.
He takes too many steps and added with slow Steyn the centers dont have any space to move
His kicking is poor but defense is ok
Ruan is a better option IMO
Yeah M steyn is not great (he did play ok) but who else Lambie I doubt it
Full back well wish Taute was fit Lambie did not look good in Super 15 final
HM wont select Aplon so Kirshner is whats left
Daniel was not great but way better than Spies. Play Alberts at 8 and add Brussow
The style is boring Bulls rugby, crash ball skop and chase
Potgieter should not be in squad, and we now need a true fetcher like Brussow since Bismark will not be there to win ball at breakdowns
Willie Le roux should be considered at 15
Hougaard at 11
Again I am not an “expert” but just my opinion
20 Aug 2012, 07:09 am
Oh and add vermeulen sooner than later
20 Aug 2012, 07:51 am
@CoachPete-417: Sorry coach, for the most me and you agree on most things,
Lambie had just come back from injury as as you know the Sharks team had flown to and from to Australisia and back a few times, to take that match as a yard stick is ludicrous, Also lambie is a 10,
Although most of us agree POtgieter should not be there, you Say vermeulen?? on what grounds?? he was pathetic on saturday, but again to be fair he has not played in close to a year, he was slow and totally off play, let him play a half dozen matches or so and get back up to speed ffs.
I aint saying he aint good enough, just needs a lot of game time after such a serious long injury lay off
You keep asking for Brussows inclusion?? he is INJURED , reports says atleast another 3 weeks, how can he be called up now???
You say Aplon? yet if i must take your kind of reasons by taking a players 1 bad match?? Aplon was slaughetered and pathetic against the Sharks 2 weeks ago?? so if thats the case he should never come near a bok jersey again.

@FckU2 – waaaaaaa ka ka ka ka… you are such a loser, why do you even read any of these articles if you don not like this site you poephol!!! Hahahahahahaha!!!
@londonshark – I agree whole heartedly. Burden is not Bok material, but he sure is next in line.
@Dirty Harry-5: I agree with londonshark, don’t blog if you cannot handle other people point of view you whiney bstrd
@xtremebull I tend to agree with you on GB even though im a Sharkie.
@Transformation – goodness man, learn to type or atleast read what you type.
@cab – hahaha, hardly worth commenting on yours, do you know much about rugby?
@cab again, damn dude what are you smoking? You have absolutely no insight whatsoever.
@Transformation-46 – yes, move on man…
Anyway my own POV is that Steyn had one of his better matches but still not good enough, kicking for posts was obviously good but general play needs big work. Hoiugard on the bench as a wing and Pienaar at 9 and that should be without a doubt. Also, Kirchner to play CC, caused half of Arg’s points for the weekend, the only good thing about him is that he catches the ball about 95% of the time, but so does Lambie and Lambie knows what to do with the ball after he catches it and Kirchner hasn’t got a clue in that regard, he can however catch a ball and fall over the line.
20 Aug 2012, 17:05 pm
Hey blitzbok, you must have your blue bull blinkers on, I would have the so called small twit Lambie above that slow twit Morne Steyn anyday, he needs a zimmer frame everytime he gets the ball. We have Frans Steyn and Ruan Pienaar who can kick, Morne Steyn and Zane Kircher are dead wood, they serve no purpose. Here is the blue bull tactics of 2006 and today’s springboks, Morne Steyn get the ball, kicks it away, Morne Sten gets the ball, kicks it away, so predictable, the game has evolved, but not this style of play. Sprringboks are predictable, no variation. Ricardo Loubscher as backline coach, what a joke, he was coaching tukkies, and the vodacom cup, that is the problem, too much blue bull boring influence. Why doesn’t Meyer surround himself with the best, get Todd Louden from Australia, like he once did, then perhaps the Springboks might play some attacking rugby, not just this kick nonsense all the time.
