Pocock out, Genia to lead Wallabies
20 Aug 2012
Australia have been dealt a serious blow with news that captain David Pocock will miss the Test against New Zealand on Saturday.
Will Genia will lead the Wallabies in his absence, with Pocock set to have keyhole surgery on his knee on Tuesday. Pocock could provide a timeline for his return, but there are concerns that he will miss the remainder of their Rugby Championship campaign. The Brumbies’ exciting youngster Michael Hooper is expected to replace Pocock at openside flank.
Coach Robbie Deans is confident in Genia’s leadership ability. ‘He responds to that sort of responsibility and I’ve got no doubt he will do so here,’ Deans said.
Pocock’s injury is the latest in a string sustained by key players. Lock and first-choice captain James Horwill and backs James O’Connor and Pat McCabe are all sidelined.

Not that much of a loss considering Hooper was arguably the best open side in Australia, and Pocock hasn’t yet developed a leadership aura or great referee rapport. Genia more respected in NZ and I think a better captain anyway. ARU joust trying to copy NZ ie McCaw
