Bekker, Habana in doubt for Boks
21 Aug 2012
Bryan Habana and Andries Bekker sustained ankle injuries that threatens to keep them out of the Test against Argentina in Mendoza on Saturday.
The duo rolled their ankles at Newlands on Saturday. Neither trained on Monday and they will be assessed later in the week to determine their availability. Bekker’s condition in particular will be of grave concern. He excelled at lineout time and his general play was very good. Heyneke Meyer had hoped to extract the best from the injury-plagued lock in the Rugby Championship, with a view to adequately filling the void left by Victor Matfield.
The Springboks’ injury toll has mounted progressively, with a clutch of senior players unavailable to Meyer. He, however, refused to lament their loss too much. ‘It’s difficult to lose guys like Pierre Spies and JP Pietersen before a big tournament like this. Between them they have almost 100 Test caps. It will be a big blow if Bryan and Andries cant play,’ he said.
‘But I think we have enough cover if we need it. There’s some great players coming forward and if they get the opportunity they must take it. The only way they’ll gain experience is by playing. The nice thing is that we’re building a big base of cover if the [incumbents] go down.’
There were no other injury concerns, but there was news on Bismarck du Plessis’ condition. The hooker seriously injured his knee early in Saturday’s Test and will undergo surgery in Cape Town on Tuesday. He is expected to be sidelined for eight months, ruling him out of all rugby for the remainder of 2012.
Adriaan Strauss will start in Du Plessis’ absence and Meyer professed his faith in the Cheetahs man.
‘Adriaan’s had a great Super Rugby tournament. He’s proved himself this year as one of the top hookers in the world. He has not played for a few weeks because the Cheetahs did not reach the playoffs, but I think he was awesome on Saturday,’ said Meyer.

@mshiniwami-147:
two not three.

@BrumbiesBoy-144: Probably not wrong…it’s not a bad thing for me though, it’s similar to the AB’s where they beleive they should win everything…it breeds a culture of winning. Althogh that said it’s important to along with that respect your opponents and doff your cap when they beat you.

@BrumbiesBoy-144:
Jip.
That’s how I see it as well. (p. 149)

@nama1-140: WP/Stormers are only reaping the reward of headswiping news headlines. They have achieved fakall.
AC is merely playing the Rassie playbook rather than benefitting from anything he put in place. Rassie just helped spending a sh it load of money on players. No structure to that.
Like I told Pedigree, lets leave this for a couple of months and then talk again. The odds of us agreeing on this one is zip.
21 Aug 2012, 13:47 pm
So it’s agreed then?…
This time Apartheid can be legitimately blamed!

When in doubt…

@KWAGGA ROBERTSE-154:
OK.
If you believe reaching a final and two semi finals in three years, after being
in the doldrums for nearly a decade, is not an achievement, that’s your prerogative.
Now can you please go ahead and explain how the Bulls are “STILL reaping the rewards” of
Meyer’s structures?

@nama1-157:
it’s a massive achievement.
well done.

@nama1-149:
superrugby form is not proof of international success albeit I do believe players can take confidence into the internationals knowing that they are good enough individually to best their opposites in nz and aus.
do you think it is better getting pummelled in superrugby and then playing the 3nations with a better chance?
wake up….twakkie was working for the ozzies.

Habs is keeping his keeping his spot with his work rate. Bismark is the worst loss , its probably just down to a very stupidly long super rugby season but all 3 teams (SA,NZ,AUS) just looked below par in their games. the worst being the boks who failed to put away the Pumas.
We can hit the panic button when Alberts gets injured because his contribution is phenomenal. imagine Bismark, Alberts ,Burger and Juan starting for the boks there would be a lot of meters gained by that quartet and we might actually stand a chance of beating the AB’s
Most importantly HM please start FH on the wing he was absolutely devastating clearly he is test winger not a scrumhalf .hes not in the same league as Genia or Smith

…or people not willing to take the blinkers of their eyes.
…or people not moving with the times.
…or people just being stupid.
All of the above could be reasons as well.

@gunther-158:
It is Gunther.
Like the first time the Bulls did not end stone last in the competition.
21 Aug 2012, 14:17 pm
@nama1-161: More likely, they ARE the reasons!!!
Pick any one, they’re all for free!!!

@Brigadier Van Zyl-159:
Twakkie working for the Aussies.
Deans working for NZ.
Who was working for us? Why did we not put Henry on our payroll?
What was our record in Super rugby in 1998?
What was our record in Super rugby in 2004?
We won the 3N on those two occasions, didn’t we? That, despite the fact that teams like the Bulls, Lions, Cheetahs were in the bottom half of the competition.(from memory)

@nama1-162:
Or the year you were left out.
Chin up.
21 Aug 2012, 14:44 pm
@gunther-165:
…or the year you won more than one match.
‘Twas a helluva achievement for your boys.
21 Aug 2012, 15:00 pm
@nama1-166:
Are you seriously trying to have a pissing contest when your team has won fuckall in over a decade?
Even the Currie Cup would need a GPS to find it’s way to Cape Town.
Come chat to me when you win something.
21 Aug 2012, 15:33 pm
@gunther-167:
Hahaha…
Not good memories there for you Gunther.
I know we were kak for most of the decade that is why I rate a final and two semis the last three years as an achievement by my team.
Going all the way, is the next step. Hopefully not too far in the future from now.
21 Aug 2012, 15:36 pm
@nama1-157: Get focussed the Story is about Bankie alweer injured. Not the fact that Wp has won 20 of their 32 cc titles before 1939.

Really funny.
Except there are two trophies in that cabinet CURRENTLY.
Vodacom Cup
Conference Cup
Yeah, I know the are not they real deal but beggars can’t be choosers.
@KWAGGA ROBERTSE-172:
No, just a short explanation on how the Bulls are STILL reaping the rewards created by HM’s structures.
21 Aug 2012, 15:55 pm
@nama1-168:
don’t worry poppet.
I’m sure NEXT year will be your year.
21 Aug 2012, 15:58 pm
@nama1-174: Agreed, although my team the Bulls are trying their best to emulate that record, 2010 is already 2 years gone
21 Aug 2012, 16:13 pm
@gunther-175:
Jip, you know that’s how we roll.
@capebull-176:
With a mostly new coaching team for next year, a not too talented squad (compared to what you had) it may just take you a while before you even win the Conference Cup.
21 Aug 2012, 21:00 pm
The bulls will come good… Eventually
We have bright prospects looking forward to.
We just need 2 buy lionel mapoe to add to our rooster as akona is reaching his end of what is a succesfull career… 3 sr titles aswell as a world cup medal… The likes of pollard,hatting, willemse,serfontein,small-smith, etc etc will be gaining valuable experience and in 2014 we will conquer again… I’m patient with the bulls(not so when we loose winning games) but the future is 2 bright not to….
22 Aug 2012, 15:20 pm
Did our Team doctor not say, we would indure may injuries during the 4Ns or not?
Who’s next…Doc?
22 Aug 2012, 15:29 pm
@nama1-174: 2 more trophies than in the Bulls’ cabinet
