Toulouse sweat against Top 14 new boys
25 Aug 2012
Toulouse had to break down a 19-17 half-time deficit to beat promoted club Mont-de-Marsan 37-22 in the French Top 14 on Saturday.
Toulouse hold the early lead on the log thanks to their bonus-point win on Saturday, but they had to work hard for it. Mont-de-Marsan shocked the defending champions in the first half as they held a five-point advantage at the break. But tries from Jean-Baptiste Poux, Vincent Clerc, Virgile Lacombre and Louis Picamoles earned the hosts the win.
Toulouse have now won back-to-back matches, giving them a great start to the season.
Toulon have also won their opening two games, with their latest victory seeing them beat Racing Metro 23-21 on the road. It was a late Jonny Wilkinson penalty which secured the triumph.
Former Cheetahs and Sharks flyhalf Jacques-Louis Potgieter kicked all of Bayonne’s points in their 24-11 win over Stade Francais. Antonie Claassen, Jan Bornman and Pedrie Wannenburg scored tries for Castres in their 30-13 victory over Grenoble.
Clermont fell to 13-8 loss to Montepellier, while Bordeaux beat Perpignan 26-22.
