Bad break for Kolisi
26 Aug 2012
WP flank Siya Kolisi has been ruled out of the rest of the season with a broken thumb.
The injury, which was obtained against the Golden Lions on Saturday, requires surgery.
Kolisi had an outstanding Super Rugby season for the Stormers and was included in the 30-man Springbok squad for the Rugby Championship. However, he did not make the match 22 for the Test against Argentina at Newlands, and did not travel with the 26-man squad to Mendoza for the return fixture. That saw him called up to WP’s Currie Cup side.
‘Siya’s injury is the only fresh concern from the weekend and it’s obviously a very big loss for us at this stage of the season,’ said WP coach Allister Coetzee.

@Fern-44:
is this a tacit admission that lambie is not good enough at 10?
wow
cant see the reasoning otherwise. there’s no point in having two talented 10′s sharing the the 1st team spot. either or really.

look at habana and fourie.
wp is a burial ground for rugby careers.

@i_love_u_bakkiesbotha-52: To with the SR comp you have to have 2 top notch 10′s, Like when Lambie got injureds, we luckily had Freddy, think we would have went as far if we didnt have that depth???

@sharks_lover-55:
ok
if they’re both happy with such a setup then its a good move. it isn’t the standard practise here or in nz so would be novel my the sharks.
i always thought freedy was brought in because of lambies age and injuries with the coaches looking to have him mature into the established 10 role.

Jantjies is too good a flyhalf to have him warming the bench all the time.

@Craven-57:
thats my thinking, its gonna be tricky managing both of their expectations.
and the worst thing woud be a loss of form for one of them.
then sa rugby loses.

@i_love_u_bakkiesbotha-58:
Bulls have been doing it for years.
Many boks has warmed the bench for the Bulls when they could have played for the lions.

@Mr Black-59:
not quite the same.
the bulls develop an incumbent and he keeps the starting spot with a youngster groomed to provide backup. the incumbent, form permitting, plays most of the critical cc/super games and the the youngster plays mostly vc and a few cc games and if theres an injury he slots in for the incumbent.

@i_love_u_bakkiesbotha-60:
Exactly, thats why we want Jantjies.
He is a Youngster to provide backup to a Sprinbok player.

@Mr Black-61:
hehe
i’m not sure elton sees himself that way. he is after all the 1st choice 10 at his union and, according to his dad, mor than capable of being the 1st choice springbok 10.
this will be interesting to watch.

@i_love_u_bakkiesbotha-62:
Just joking, agree, would be a strange move for him.
But, money talks

Probably the best break he could get.
At least 2 months away from the field, this will give him time to hopefully study his own game and will still be able to do most of his training.
Will come back well rested & with greater hunger, a blessing in disguise really that he’s not with HM as it seems a lot of reputations will be in tatters after the Boks Australasia Tour.
