Strauss makes lock shift

Josh Strauss will feature in the second row when the Golden Lions tackle Griquas in Johannesburg on Friday.

An injury to Hendrik Roodt has left the Lions struggling in the second-row department. This has forced coach Johan Ackermann to move loose forward Strauss to lock for the clash at Ellis Park. Willie Britz will make his first start as he takes the vacant spot in the loose trio.

There are three other changes to the starting line-up as tighthead prop Jacobie Adriaanse, flank Cobus Grobbelaar and scrumhalf Michael Bondesio are replaced by CJ van der Linde, Jaco Kriel and Guy Cronje respectively.

Golden Lions – 15 Andries Coetzee, 14 JR Esterhuizen, 13 Lionel Mapoe, 12 Butch James, 11 Anthony Volmink, 10 Elton Jantjies, 9 Guy Cronje, 8 Warren Whiteley, 7 Willie Britz, 6 Jaco Kriel, 5 Franco van der Merwe, 4 Josh Strauss, 3 CJ van der Linde, 2 Bandise Maku, 1 JC Janse van Rensburg (c).
Subs: 16 Martin Bezuidenhout, 17 CJ van der Linde, 18 Willie Britz, 19 Jaco Kriel, 20 Ross Cronje, 21 Deon Helberg, 22 Ruan Combrinck.

Strauss & Brussow both miles ahead of Potgieter..

Both inteligent rugby players whom are a thorn aggaisnt any opposition and not just one dimensional, they play the game and the situation as it unfolds, serious rugy sportsmen. This Potgieter I am yet to see anything more than an erratic human shield/barge pole..

So Strauss as lock, maybe he can be our next generation Danie clone (for the Boks) _ I stillrather opt for Ryno Elstadt

    Who’s next?
My guess is Maku to replace departing Deon Fourie at WP/Stormers, as rumoured.

    Strauss to WP/Stormers?
Franco Van Der Merwe to Cheetahs?
    Cilliers and Jantjies to Sharks?

None of the above will surprise me.

Seems very strange move to play the currie cups elite 8th man at lock …. yes this can be done with guys like Big D and Alberts but heck this should not become the norm .
