Dixon answers Sharks’ SOS

Dixon answers Sharks’ SOS

The Sharks have signed hooker Pieter Dixon for the rest of the Currie Cup.

With Bismarck du Plessis injured while on Springbok duty and Craig Burden called up to the Test squad, the Sharks are struggling in their hooker department. Former Bath, Stormers and WP hooker Dixon will now help ease their crisis as he’ll provide back-up for third-choice Monde Hadebe.

Dixon, who is now 34 years old, spent seven years at English club Bath before returning to his home province KZN, where he got married last June. Before his stint in Europe, he featured for the Stormers in the Super 12 and WP in the Currie Cup from 2001-2005.

Dixon’s last competitive match was John Smit’s testimonial game at Kings Park at the end of June. He’s expected to feature in the Sharks’ match 22 for their game against the Cheetahs in Durban on Saturday.

    Good signing.

Does the basics of a hooker very well.
Hadebe’s going to learn a huge amount from this guy.

Dixon of course is a (non-test) Springok – being called up from SA u/23 to Boks during a UK tour in 2000 – and played as second half sub in a loss vs an English 2nd tier club combined XV. Same game that made Adri Badenhorst and Marius Joubert Springboks as they too were called up from u/23s. At least Joubert featured again in later years.

One of the only current players to be involved in or be playing when WP won the Currie Cup..man that was a great match think of the players on either team for the sharks you had Du Toit, Smit (at his best), AJ Venter, Davidson, Halstead, Delport, Le Roux, Van Den Berg etc… & Province you had Kempson, Dixon, Paulse, Krige, Skinstad, De Kok, Conradie, C Russouw, P Russouw, Montgomery, B VAN STRAATEN amazing teams thinking back I can see why this Province team won things back.then I dont think they have had such a good side perhaps only.in 2010 but things didnt quite work out
