Taute back for Lions
6 Sep 2012
Fullback Jaco Taute was named on the bench for the Golden Lions’ Currie Cup match against the Blue Bulls in Pretoria.
Taute suffered a serious shoulder injury during Super Rugby, which saw the player sidelined for three months. He’s set to make his first appearance for the Lions since late May at Loftus Versfeld.
Meanwhile, there have been eight changes made to the Lions starting line-up.
Up front, hooker Callie Visagie, tighthead prop Jacobie Adriaanse, lock Hendrik Roodt and flank Cobus Grobbelaar come in for Bandise Maku, CJ van der Linde, Josh Strauss and Jaco Kriel respectively.
Among the backs, scrumhalf Michael Bondesio, wing Ruan Combrinck, inside centre Alwyn Hollenbach and speedster Deon Helberg replace Ross Cronje, Anthony Volmink, Butch James and JR Esterhuizen respectively.
Golden Lions – 15 Andries Coetzee, 14 Deon Helberg, 13 Lionel Mapoe, 12 Alwyn Hollenbach, 11 Ruan Combrinck, 10 Elton Jantjies, 9 Michael Bondesio, 8 Warren Whiteley, 7 Willie Britz, 6 Cobus Grobbelaar, 5 Franco van der Merwe, 4 Hendrik Roodt, 3 Jacobie Adriaanse, 2 Callie Visagie, 1 JC Janse van Rensburg (c).
Subs: 16 Bandise Maku, 17 CJ van der Linde, 18 Michael Rhodes, 19 Jaco Kriel, 20 Ross Cronje, 21 Butch James, 22 Jaco Taute.

Explain?

Once fully fit, it will be interesting to see who they pick at 15 – Taute or Coetzee. Either of them could (and should) replace Zane for the Boks.

Have them both in the back 3 for me. swapping all game

@SexyTime-2:
Just thinking:
First the rumours of going to NZ
Then moving to lock
Then out of the match 22
Just wondering if his involvement in axing the coach hasn’t alienated him.

What’s Volmink got to do woth it? Promising player though.
Re Strauss: I am aware that he is injured. It just a theory, i might be wrong. I like Strauss as a player and captain though.

I am a Bulls supporter, but Taute or Coetzee could replace Zane at 15 for the Boks. Although Zane hasn’t done anything wrong as such, but neither has he done anything spectacular. Hope to see Brussouw in action for the Boks at the EOYT at the latest.

Yup, taute or coetzee with out a doubt…for the boks home games hopefully. zane is extremely average and thats as good as it gets for him.

Any news on the future of the Lions? Europe?

@Gazelle-16:
Taute has been out far to long to get a bok call up… I am quite impressed with the bulls fullback. Looks like he could become a allround 15…
I suspect Kirchner will be around for a while, perhaps he might lose out on the EOTY squad…
