Time for a late night pizza and some rugby replays.. May even watch couple has of the last round starting with Kiwis vs Auz don't think can watch Boks last game again 1 and a half times was more than enough :O let's hope Jean was not bedding a cover to cushion any potential fall and Boks come out firing! Hopefully Heynek will do some of the real talking tomorrow if the new changes and bench get used right..

Yup... Smitty could only do so much... and he did as much as he could... Nearly superhuman leadership. If it wasn't for him then there would have been far more funnies than those you have listed...

By far... Smitty was the difference between Dippy and Co being average, and farken downright historical flops...

I reckon besides King Heyneke having a distinct lack of imagination in the selection stakes, half the problem with the Boks is a distinct lack of leadership on field... Whether that leadership is actually suppressed or whether true leadership ability is lacking from the Captain of the moment, I reckon the latter is why this is actually missing from the Boks on field and is a big factor in underperformance...

As nice a guy Donkey might be... he is no real leader.

So the Stats prove that APART from vs Australia every other first tier rugby nation PdV has a BETTER win / loss ratio to JW

Only difference is JW waltzed a no contest gimme WC against nobody teams such as 7th rank England and 6th rank Argy

and PdV was put out the quarter finals against 2nd rank Australia by 2 lucky packet points and a one eyed ref.

Fundamentally speaking PdV was a FAR better coach than JW except nobody wanna ever believe it.

Some easy wins for the Springboks include the following moves:

1) offloads in the tackle - If we practise this week in and week out in training and in games, we will learn when to offload and when not to. Healthy offloading is the cornerstone of any good attacking team.

2) Inside ball - if our backline is moving the ball through the hands, it can often catch an opposition off guard for someone to run against the grain and take the inside ball.

3) Variety from our flyhalf - this will make our flyhalf more difficult to predict and will mean that oppositions will have a harder time preparing for us. As it currently stands, we are one of the easiest teams in the world to prepare for, because we are so one-dimensional and predictable.

4) Variety in our game plan - same reasons as above. There is nothing wrong with the kick chase game plan, except for the fact that it's the only game plan we have. A one size fits all approach is not the approach of a world class team. To be the best, we should have a few more tricks up our sleeve. There is a time to use kick chase and a time to use other tactics.

5) A fetcher - self-explanatory as to why we need this.

6) Pressure defense - We are a young-ish team at the moment and there are a lot of guys in a green jersey who, although talented, have been a teensy bit outmuscled and schooled by more experienced opponents. The Argies as an example schooled our forwards at the breakdown in Mendoza. Let's turn things around and put the pressure on the opposition. When we don't have the ball, this is a perfect opportunity to make life difficult for the opposition. Let's throw our forwards all over them and force them into mistakes. Rush defense combined with drift defense. Aggressive D is one of the quickest wins we can get.

7) Competing at the lineout - why not?

8) With all this talk about playing a kicking game, we have on too many occassions put pressure on ourselves by kicking down the oppositions throat and letting them counter attack... How about we try finding touch?

9) Guys like Quade Cooper and Sonny Bill Williams are going to throw offloads. Guaranteed. Let's be aware of that in advance and have JDV or Habana (or anyone for that matter) hanging nearby when the tackle is made. When the offload eventually comes, go for the intercept... If they don't throw an offload, then at least we have found a way to stop them offloading.

There are many many more tactics than kick and chase. Above are only a few that I would expect from my Springboks.

@bokfan,would you care to mention a few good things that Pdivvy did for the Boks? He was gifted a masterclass team from Jake White, and got no real results out. However, I must agree with you on HM, I too believe he will do great things with the Boks, he just needs to hit his head a few times to realise he needs to make some changes.

Point to prove - but not tomorrow - HM needs to adapt his Rugby thinking"! and expand the game plan.
How can he be so one sited, if the rest of the world can see it.. and the worse thing is when they don't succeed in the game plan there is no fallback. Look at the Bull's when the sharks started bullying them they crumbled... When Argies bullied SA we had no Idea what to do. But to beat Aus you need to destroy them at the scrums, when they are on the backfoot they make countless error, and explode.. That's exactly how Ireland beat them in the WC dominated them from the front.... Think the same for the Kiwis - I just wish we could have played them in the WC - think that would have written a different storey all together.
