Griquas claim Sharks scalp

GARETH DUNCAN watched Griquas down the Sharks 22-15 in a scrappy game in Kimberley.
GWK Park has been an unhappy hunting ground for the bigger unions in recent seasons. In 2011, the Free State Cheetahs, Blue Bulls and Sharks were all beaten by Griquas away from home.
And this year, the Durban visitors fell to their third consecutive defeat to the Currie Cup minnows in the Northern Cape capital.
Griquas flyhalf Francois Brummer was key in the win, enjoying a flawless outing with the boot as he kicked all six of his goal attempts (one conversion and five penalties). A try from flank Marnus Schoeman in the first half also proved to be telling.
The Sharks scored all their points via inside centre Meyer Bosman, who converted all of his five penalties.
The hosts held a 16-9 half-time lead after a superior showing in the opening 40. Brummer punished the Sharks’ ill-discipline with three penalties, while Schoeman dived over from a strong rolling maul. Bosman kept his team in the game via the boot.
Brummer’s two three-pointers after the break was enough for a Griquas win.
The Sharks will lament a controversial TMO decision, which cost them a potential match-winning try at the death.
Fullback Lous Ludik dotted down during the closing stages, but referee Pro Legoete checked for obstruction during the build-up. There was off-the-ball influence during the move, but it occurred a couple of phases before the try-scoring act. Ludik’s effort was still cancelled.

Third year in a row losing at Kimberly. Well done Griquas ! Not a death sentence for the Sharks though.
2010 the Sharks lost in Kimberly and took the title.
2011 the Sharks lost in Kimberly and played in the final.

I would have to say that the ref’s decision to go back 200 spaces was incorrect. Sharks did themselves in for sure, but Pro is always harsh on them

A slovenly indolent display from an unmotivated team with no pattern, no direction, and a poor captain whose only contribution is to bash it up, bash it up, bash it up to no discernible effect.
The very few times they ran and passed, they made ground. Else nothing.
Tight forwards (props!!) trying to play like backs and interfering all over the place. Just like Plod used to and with the same result. Disaster!
Pro rugby is just not worth watching, it is more like Grid Iron without the passing.
