Mitchell saga drags on
11 Sep 2012
Lions coach John Mitchell’s disciplinary hearing has been delayed by yet another week.
Lions president Kevin de Klerk has confirmed that the misconduct hearing against Mitchell will take place next week, as the chairperson is ill.
Mitchell was suspended at the end of June and succeeded by assistant coach Johan Ackermann, who has since taken control of the Lions side in the Currie Cup.
Since Mitchell was first suspended, there have been investigations into allegations of misconduct and Mitchell was supposed to learn his fate this week.

What misconduct exactly ?

@cane-4: He’s up on three separate charges, each of which could potentially ruin his career:
1. Dragging the proudest rugby union in SA to new lows.
2. Crimes against ears.
3. Shameless public displays of Kiwiness.

@katman-5:
Guilty as charged, on counts 2 and 3.
Not guilty on the first charge. (Curried Cup win).
There seems to be something more sinister here Katman.
Something so bizarre and outrageous no one will speak of it.

@cane-6: Someone’s got to be guilty of something here, Cane. That much is clear. Just a case of who’s left standing when the music stops.

@cane-6:
he’s a poefta, but they wont admit it.
its not right from a pc/human rights pov but i have to say i feel the same way.
sexual orientation must be a criteria when involved in coaching rugby.

besides, he was on a hiding to nothing with the lions anyway. why stick around at all? if he’s as good as some believe (i dont) he should walk a job anywhere in the world.

now if only those filthy scum bucket dooses in the boardroom would subject themselves to a disciplinary hearing.

@i_love_u_bakkiesbotha-8: What rubbish. That is how rumours get started. For the record John Mitchell is definitely not ***.
The Lions are a shambles and wanted to get out of their contract with him due to financial issues. Mitch is standing his ground, good for him. The players complaints are a disgrace and anybody who signed that paper should struggle to get a playing contract anywhere else. The whole thing is disgusting and an embarrasment to SA rugby.

@mako-11: Agree with you. Josh Strauss fuckingoff to Scotland kind of gives one some idea of just how screwed up the so called ‘charges’ are.
I think Josh is feeling like a d oo s for his part in all this kak. Players were recruited by the boardroom to instigate these claims I reckon…..
Eejjits running Lions rubgy thought that Mitchell would just leave……
Now they are trying to stall the hearing while their incompetent lawyers try to worm their way out of this mess.
Have an idea a few players might be withdrawing their little affidavits as well in the near future.
This is not going to end well for the Lions…I see a huge payout, public apology and many players looking like twats.

@cane-6: @katman-7: Most definitely something sinister.
Am intrigued to see how they’re going to worm their way out of this one. If it has anything to do with the Kings’ inclusion in Super Rugby I will be extremely pe*d off.

@i_love_u_bakkiesbotha-8: says the guy who apparently loves a man who he has never met. Or are you a woman?
I’d have thought the fact he was a kiwi would be enough to make you hate him anyway.

@The Sharks rugby pedigree is packaged as dog food-12: Yep, that’s about the sum of it.

@mako-11:
look, i relly dont know if its true or not. i read it here.
lions are a mess with or without mitchell, agreed.
@gonzo-14:
no, i actually like him as a person and rugby commentator. offers honest refreshing views. as well i like spencer who i would have liked to see involved at a better run union.
i dont rate mitchell as a coach, i think he’s mediocre at best.
spencer, i would have liked to see how he could bring to a well run outfit. sharks, wp or boks should maybe have taken him on a short term consultancy contract.
Have your say
