WP to battle Sharks with depleted pack
11 Sep 2012
Injuries and national call-ups will see WP fielding a weakened pack of forwards this Saturday.
Flank Rynhardt Elstadt has been ruled out for three weeks with a rib injury. Elstadt sustained the injury in the game against the Cheetahs last week.
WP are already without Siya Kolisi, who sustained a season-ending injury recently. Several of their first choice players are also currently with Boks, including No 8 Duane Vermeulen and prop Frans Malherbe. The latter was called up to the Bok squad on Tuesday.
Wing Ederies Arendse has also been sidelined for six weeks with a shoulder injury.
The only piece of good news for WP is that fullback Joe Pietersen and flank Tyrone Holmes will be making their respective returns from injury this weekend.

Leave Pietersen out of the team please.
The backline is doing just fine as it is.

@Bagel-1: It seems that he’ll play off the bench

CT Shark – nothing like that nice snotklap you get every year in Kimberley. Always worth watching how the softies from Durban get “orientated” over there.

@Pietie-4: Ag ou Pietie…..do you have to turn to Griquas for solace ? Your team to kak to provide it ? Typical WP loser.

@CT Shark-3: The Bulls once had the wood over us in the same manner you do. The only difference was we always left Loftus with around 30 and more points on our backsides.
@Pietie-4: Dunno how the Griquas keep doing them like that. Very satisfying, nonetheless, though we always scrape through at that slaughterhouse.
@Dusky-5: The worst thing about that comment is that you actually thought it out!

WP can beat the Sharks. You can’t get lucky with 14 points from kick offs twice in a row.

Deon Fourie to make everybody his bi@tch

don’tknow why the weepee supporters are even concerned about this match.
surely all their heritage, tradition and powerhouse history should mean the jonny-come-latelies ex b division have no chance?

So WP to do battle against Sharks with depleted pack. And what about Sharks? We have been seriously depleted from the start of this CC.
We without:
Bissie, Jannie, Beast, Burden, Alberts, Coetzee, Lambie, Fransie, Jordaan, Mvovo and Kanko. For a time we never had Daniel and Timmy either.
Jeez Sharks just about lost their whole team. Can’t possibly take this cc that serious this year.

@Puma-10: And NO JPP either.
Sharks have been the most depleted this cc season.

@charo-9: Classic.

@Puma-11: Hi Puma, I don’t want to argue but the WP are missing a couple of players as well: Malherbe, Liebenberg, Etzebeth, Bekker, Elstadt, Koster, Schalk, Vermeulen, Kolisi, Carr, Duvenhage, JdV, JdJ, Habana: 14 at the moment.
11 Sep 2012, 17:24 pm
@CharlesM-14: When did Province lose Liebenberg, Malherbe and Vermeulen? Okay Vermeulen played in two games and Kolisi I think one. Duvenhage started this season with your team as well. Picked up a injury in the Bulls game. AND you should be damn pleased because your replacement is superb. You only lost Elstadt this week. How many of those players you mention there started the CC? I count 5.
Sharks lost all their players at once. Only player we had for the first two games was Burden. Then we had Daniel for the last two. Otherwise we have been without all of the players I mention. We also have lost Kyle Cooper. There are another two just can’t think of their names right now as we are without 17 of our players. Fred went back to France. So not counting him.
11 Sep 2012, 17:26 pm
@CharlesM-14: This cc is now more like a Vodacom Cup to be honest. Just way, way too many players missing from: Sharks, Bulls and Province to call this a cc.
11 Sep 2012, 17:30 pm
@Puma-16: without: PSDT as well.
11 Sep 2012, 17:46 pm
@CharlesM-14: Charles,
I was just trying to point out that the heading of this article was wrong. Both sides are depleted. Sharks even more so.
11 Sep 2012, 17:54 pm
@Puma-18: Yes Puma, you’re right. It’s like that because there are way too much rugby being played. People don’t want to go and watch a match (live at the stadium that is) at 19.10 on a Saturday night. On the 29th when the Boks play the Aussies at Loftus at 17.00, WP will play the Lions at 19.10 at Newlands !! How many supporters will attend the match ? Most would rather stay at home and watch both on TV. I’d like to go to Newlands but then I’ll miss the test match – the guys at the top making the decisions, don’t think (or so it seems) !!
I hope that some of the young talent coming through the CC are given opportunities in the S15 next year.
I feel for a guy like Lambie: he had 10 minutes and has been on the bench for about 230 minutes – how ridiculous is that ?
Any news on Pieter-Steph’s injury ?
11 Sep 2012, 18:11 pm
@CharlesM-19: Good post Charles. Agree totally.
Really think it is about money bud. Absolutely ridiculous rugby schedule this. I watched the Boks game on Saturday and had to head off to the airport to give a mate a lift. So missed the Sharks game. Had to pvr the game. Also just far, far too much rugby played this year. Players surely must be exhausted by now.
I feel for Lambie too. Totally wasted on the bench to have a talent like that left there and not used is crazy. I would rather he was playing CC for Sharks than seeing him just wasting away on the bench.
Have no idea about PSDT yet. Think another week or two. Great player and he too just might have got a call up from Meyer as Meyer rated him. Pity he picked up that injury to the ankle. Again too much rugby. He had just finished playing the JWC and slotted straight back into Super Rugby.

Agreed, but the Sharks did him no favours either by playing the Frog
How would Lambie ever get any gametime on a higher level than CC?
Have your say
