Amongst the forwards there is still the need for a big bruising ball carrier, with Strauss missing. Whiteley is great, but he’s a different type of player. And Willie Brits has not really convinced me yet – made some elementary mistakes, and seems a tad slow off the mark. Really impressed by the (relatively) lightweight tight five though, and particularly the front row. JC van Rensburg has developed into a world class prop despite not being the biggest bloke in the pack. And to have a guy like Maku come on in the second half is any coach’s dream.

I’m hoping for another big statement this weekend.
