Lions lose Roodt

The Golden Lions have suffered three new injuries after their 38-23 win over the Free State Cheetahs last Saturday.

The major loss is lock Hendrik Roodt, who recently recovered from injury. Roodt is expected to be out for the season as he suffered a shoulder dislocation.

Flank Willie Britz and wing Deon Helberg are also out of action with wrist and ankle injuries respectively.

The Lions are already without scrumhalf Whestley Moolman (arm) and lock Stephan Greeff (leg) for the rest of the season. Flank Derick Minnie (knee), flyhalf Guy Cronje (hamstring) and centre Waylon Murray (knee) are recovering and are set to make their returns over the next two to three weeks.

There is some good news for the Lions as flank Jaco Kriel and prop CJ van der Linde rejoined the squad at training on Monday.

    For a union in financial turmoil the Lions are starting to develop a good squad. Every time they lose players to injury injured players are coming back.

    Let’s hope poor Jaco has a girlfriend….

    Taute being out is frustrating for him, the Lions and the rugby public. Very talented player who needs to get a chance.

    I believe in him and Mapoe we have some serious candidates for future Bok 13, something we desperately need… but they keep getting themselves injured!!

    I almost thought the Lions lost Taute and Roodt to other franchises.

    Any idea where Taute will be playing S15 next year?

    Season is way too long. Feel for Taute though, only just back and picks up another injury.

    @willievz-5: Rumours are he may be heading to Sharks.

    @Puma-8: Cheers Puma.

    That will be good news for the Sharks but I don’t think he will receive much gametime.

    I hope he goes to the Stormers / Cheetahs.

    @willievz-9: Yeah I feel the same, much like I would rather prefer Elton to go to Stormers/Province as well.

    We have Lambie that will be our first choice fh next year, also Ludik is playing brilliant at fb. We also have Viljoen.

    @Puma-10: Well we know for sure that Elton was in talks with Sharks. Now heard that Taute might be heading our way too. Not sure totally about Taute bud, it could be a rumour as I said in my post 8.
