WP duo get off lightly
18 Sep 2012
WP No 8 Jebb Sinclair escaped without any punishment after a Saru disciplinary hearing on Tuesday, while flank Tyrone Holmes received a one-week ban.
Both players were red carded for punching during Province’s 43-27 defeat to the Sharks in Durban last Saturday. They were also cited for foul play and were expected to receive suspensions.
However, judicial officer Peter Ingwersen ruled that Sinclair was severely provoked as he was struck five times by his opponent with an open hand before he retaliated.
The original offence was classified as a ‘low-end contravention’, which carries a two-week ban as sanction, unless compelling on-field or off-field mitigating influences were found. Such features existed in this case and the sending off was considered to be sufficient punishment.
Sinclair will be available for WP’s Currie Cup game against Griquas this Saturday.
Meanwhile, Holmes was ruled to have been severely provoked but was never subjected to a physical attack, as in Sinclair’s case. It was decided that he would receive a one-week ban.

Wow lucky dragons ! Not expected and not fair in my book

@sparticus-1: Good thing your book doesnt count. Jebb is fairly lucky, but the judge says that he was provoked, which he was. I know its not part of sport but kinda glad that Jebb dropped Deysel.
We are soon to have one of the toughest packs in provincial world rugby, from a so called light five to guys like Burger,Kolisi,Elstadt,Etzebeth,Duanne, Kitsie. All these kinda players dont need to stand back for anyone.

Looks like Sharks desperate to het WP players sent off… What a bunch of scumbags!

‘get’!

Fair enough.Getting slapped around five times deserves to be punished with a Canadian fist.

Puma won’t be happy with this ruling.In his mind,Deysel only pushed Jebb away.

@Fleckie-2: Thats no reason to punch the guy , it was stupid and silly and could have costed us much more

That Canadian is tougher than I thought. Put Deysel on his backside.
Sinclair is reported to have said the Nando’s family meal must be for the world’s smallest family. He takes it all in in one sitting

@wnbb-5:
In the NHL they would expect you to blixem the guy for that

You should see the portion sizes over here, you could feed a family with one

@victoriabok-9: YES.I follow a bit of the NHL on ESPN and i can see why these Canadian okes don’t take any prisoners.The Battle of Boet Erasmus springs to mind.

Victoriabok , Holmes taps Botes with his knuckles
& gets 2 weeks. Jebb can lead the group self defence class after practices

Red card offenses equal a one week sanction and a no sanction

* 1 week I mean

@wnbb-11:
The NHL has a lockout at the moment
The owners of the franchises wants to take back a cut of the players` money
Get this, the players get 57% of the NHL revenue and the owners want to cut it back to 47%
Could you imagine that rugby players could get 57% of SANZAR’s revenue?

Ohfuckyprettyboardshortsandbling. There is going to be a mantrum of note.
Good thing the provocation was noted. There was only one way that was going to end, and that was with “I’ll b eetch slap you over and over again, you beetchy beetch” Deysel sitting on his always injured a ss in a puddle of water. Yes, in Jebb’s case, the red card was enough.
Holmes deserves at least 4 weeks for his poor effort: 2 weeks for throwing a punch, and 2 weeks for the woeful execution of said punch.
Facts are, that game should never have been played in those conditions, and what with Sharkies pushing WP players faces into puddles at every breakdown and all sorts of other unsportsmanlike provocation throughout, I reckon the 2 red cards and yellow could have been worse.
I hate punching….headbutting….clotheslining and the sort…..but I hate girlie like cheap provocation just as much.
Just a pity the joker of the provokers, special needs lock Bresler wasn’t given a stern talking to by someone – maybe next time.
That all said – the very experienced Sharks loose trio pulled a Nathan Sharpe/Richie M on the WP fellows….and they fell for it.

@sparticus-1: It has been a long time coming for Deysel.
Actually, I was quite suprised at Deysel’s glass jaw.

Now we take provocation into account?
Lmfao.

|I agree that the refereeing in this game was not up to standard.. If it were, yellow cards should have gone both ways.
I think both players paid the price by receiving red cards and Wp lost due to this… so punished served… lets see who tries Jebb on the weekend..
Bam!! B itch went down!!

@gunther-18: It’s an “Exceptional Circumstances” clause that only applies to WP (or any other DA-run team).
Jab Sinclair was well within his rights.
19 Sep 2012, 10:22 am
@Fleckie-2: Lots of funny jokes here and good laughs, but I hope everyone IS joking?
Jeb provoked Deysel by getting an arm around his throat and trying to bend him in half the wrong way!
Lets not forget The Battle of Boet Eramus in 95 – those Canadians are DIRTY and love to start punching.
Holmes also reacted to the slightest provocation and gamesmanship from Botes.
And I am a staunch WP fan. I was shocked and disgusted by those punches.

A yes the hurty tie clause.

As a Province man, watching with his Sharks girlfriend on Sat eve, I took a LOT of stick. “You common WP thugs are a disgrace to rugby etc. etc”. So perhaps she had a case and perhaps there was provocation, but was not a good day. Thuggery from a Springbok and then from my WP team and losses for both my teams and lots of lip (the wrong kind!) from my precious. Geez, allround a bad day in front of the telly. Excluding the Bulls loss to Griquas of course:))
Have your say
