Willie le Roux and Lappies Labuschagne have finally been rewarded with spots in the Springbok training group. They are two of eight that are first timers in Springbok training groups this year. The others are Gio Aplon, Trevor Nyakane, JJ Engelbrecht, Lionel Mapoe, Wiehahn Herbst and Demetri Catrakilis. The group of players will assemble in Durban for the second training camp of the year, before the final squad for the Incoming Tours is selected. Players not considered due to injury include: JP Pietersen, Jaco Taute, Frans Steyn, Johan Goosen, Duane Vermeulen, Pat Cilliers and Frans Malherbe. ... Read Article22 May 2013
Ryno Benjamin brought in ahead of Raymond Rhule for Port Elizabeth clash. Cheetahs coach Naka Drotske has kept the rest of his team unchanged, hoping the momentum from the Reds victory will lead them to a win against the Kings. That does mean that Burton Francis remains out of the match 22, Elgar Watts continuing ahead of Riaan Smit, who is on the bench yet again. Willie le Roux and Lappies Labuschagne will use this match to show why they have been included in the Springbok training squad. Both will be pushing hard to be among the final names for the upcoming Incoming tours against Italy, ... Read Article25 Apr 2013
Jan Serfontein, the player of last year's under 20 World Championship, will head the baby Boks defence in France. Serfontein and Kings wing Sergeal Petersen are two Super Rugby regulars to make Dawie Theron's squad and brilliant flyhalf Handre Pollard is another to play in a second successive tournament. Theron's squad lost a three-match series 2-1 to Argentina in Argentina. Serfontein, Petersen and Western Province's Cheslin Kolbe did not play in those matches. Bulls loose forward Ruan Steenkamp is captain. Serfontein and Pollard are the only two squad members from last year's ... Read Article14 May 2013
All Blacks coach Steve Hansen has selected several uncapped Blues players in his training group. Hansen confirmed 38 names and this included many from the potent Blues backline. The Highlanders, despite only winning one match in this year's Super Rugby competition, have six players in the group. An obvious area of weakness is at hooker where Hansen has selected veterans Andrew Hore and Keven Mealamu and Canes Dane Coles. Options are limited and it certainly is a concern for New Zealanders. No overseas-based players were considered, as it is NZRFU policy. Among the uncapped players ... Read Article15 May 2013
French coach Philipe Saint-Andre has included three South African-born players for the three-Test series against the All Blacks in New Zealand. Racing Metro flank Bernard le Roux and Clermont prop Daniel Kotze join Antonie Claassen in a squad that includes eight new caps. Fijian-born Clermont winger Noa Nakaitaci is among the newcomers. Saint-Andre has rested flyhalf Francois Trinh-Duc, but included Toulon's Frederic Michalak. France play world champions New Zealand on June 8, 15 and 22 in Auckland, Hamilton and New Plymouth respectively. French super club Toulon's foreign dominance ... Read Article5 Mar 2013
MARK KEOHANE writes the Varsity Cup in its first year rocked. Since then it's just another professional tournament. The Varsity Cup may have the innovation of doing a few things differently, but what was supposed to be a celebration of student rugby somehow just seems like another tournament, in which the traditional power houses remain the traditional strengths in the tournament. Much has been made of the Port Elizabeth-based Nelson Mandela University display this season and equally there has been bewilderment at how poor Shimlas have been. But it seems the old one two of Stellenbosch University ... Read Article12 May 2013
Marcus Watson scored in extra time to beat the Blitzbokke in the London World Series Sevens Cup quarter-finals. The teams were level 14-all at full time. Watson's try came four minutes into extra time. England won 19-14. England had the chance to win the match with the last play of the game in normal time. They were awarded a penalty and opted to take a drop kick for goal. It missed. Watson then rounded off a move after England had retained possession for two minutes. South Africa suffered further embarrassment when they lost for a second time in the tournament to the USA and were eliminated ... Read Article8 Jan 2013
Limpopo will play in the Vodacom Cup as a separate side for the first time this year. The region, which is a sub-union of the Blue Bulls Rugby Union, has been granted a place in the tournament in its own rights to help foster rugby in South Africa’s far north. They join the 14 provincial unions as well as the returning Pampas XV from Argentina in the tournament, which kicks off in the second week of March and concludes in mid-May. The Polokwane-based Limpopo team will play in the North Section of the competition, along with the Blue Bulls, Golden Lions, Griffons, Leopards, Pumas, Valke ... Read Article20 Sep 2012

I am not going to watch this episode of bad tv – can somebody please put into one sentance what the dragon Os said.
20 Sep 2012, 13:58 pm
Interesting.
More of this type of interview please.
Was intriguing to hear closer to the end how Brumbies running was copied by Jake and Boks and then Eddie Jones came in – the originator of the moves – and helped to instill confidence and refine…
20 Sep 2012, 14:05 pm
Yes, Os, we have the players but will they be selected? As long as we have brain dead one dimensional players like M.Steyn and Kirchner in the side we’ll go nowhere fast. Success starts with good player selection.
20 Sep 2012, 14:09 pm
very interesting
20 Sep 2012, 14:12 pm
Ennie Jones, Ryan?
20 Sep 2012, 14:19 pm
@RL-1:
Watch the interview RL.
Ryan does well. And Os is well worth 3 and a half minutes of your time.
This is not the usually Keo TV rant.
This Randt’s rant.

Video just switched off

Os talks a lot of sense and is quite well spoken. Well done to the big guy. He seems to have the brains and aptitude… let’s hope he can conjure up a few new props at the Cheetahs. Boks desperately need props… all the current Bok ones are pretty average. Beast has lost his aura and JdP has always been riding his brother’s coattails….

Best KeoTV clip yet – Os is a meneer!
20 Sep 2012, 15:43 pm
@lepel-8: everything he said he gleaned from hawies fourie…
20 Sep 2012, 15:55 pm
Ryan looks like he is in to Os .. I mean really into him
20 Sep 2012, 16:19 pm
Os jou ysterballas.
He makes a good point, the problem we have at the moment is that there is a slight disbelief amongst the players in teh game plan. Obviously everyone that knows the players is talking in their ears about this rubbish game plan.
and its that 1% of disbelief thats killing our confidence.
But, then look at how our forwards made the formiddable NZ pack look amateur last week for most of the game. and there must be some hope.
Its going to take some tweaks, as was said here -
use the forwards to make space, but then also have the runners off the ball, 2 or 3 creating some doubt in the defenders mind. let him make a call as to where he defends. thats where mistakes come in, and the opposition crumble.
if we can get some flair going in the backs, behind that pack – i would back us 8/10 times against even nz.
20 Sep 2012, 16:23 pm
it will come though. goosen receiving flat at speed with frans and jp (jean must go) running off him and lambie coming inside the line – this bok backline can do it.im afraid i hate to admit this, since im a big fan, and always have been, but jean is not doing his team any favours – he runs too lateral and has lost that vision of his. i think like morne, he needs a break.
20 Sep 2012, 16:42 pm
What a waste of my bandwidth !! Ryan looked completely unprepared for that interview.
In a nutshell Os thinks we don’t have self belief. Forwards looked competent and backs looked kak .
Forget our attack for one minute ,it has been addressed ad-nausea by every one who has watched more than half a minute of rugby, whats most concerning is our lack of technique in defense; how many times has Kirshner been turned inside out this season? How many times have the fringes of our rucks been exposed? Where has the pillar post been? It isn’t particularly hard to punish our advantage line either.
Boks need some work before they are anywhere the real deal…
20 Sep 2012, 16:50 pm
One thing that really irks me is people who claim that Hougaard is better than Pienaar…no, we’ve looked infinitely better with Pienaar there.
Add JPP,Lambie and the Goos to our back-line and we will start unlocking tight defense. It also may be pertinent to invest in players like Jordaan ,Willie Le Roux ,Andries Coetzee ,Lionel Mapoe ,Tuate and Jantjies as players who can add something on attack.
20 Sep 2012, 16:53 pm
@wpallday-15: if any of those players are not “mentally tough” they can forget the Bok jersey under Heyneke.
20 Sep 2012, 17:06 pm
Is it just me or is Ryans voice really irritating, why not get jojo to perform the interviews…naked
20 Sep 2012, 17:15 pm
@Doughnut-11: I think it’s the camera too close to RV’s face. Some insightful analysis from Os
20 Sep 2012, 17:16 pm
Very good interview. Os sounds so much more inteligent when he’s sober! And he is spot-on with his analysis of the boks.

“EWN Sport revealed the news via their twitter account:” #Kings exclusively confirm to us they’ve asked SARU to change their rules on foreign players, to allow them more than 2 in #SuperRugby 2013
Pffft it seems that these transformers are not going to transform – could see it from a mile away. I wonder how the 200000 will feel knowing that Argentinians will be picked ahead of them.
20 Sep 2012, 17:44 pm
@RL-20:
What is a kdoos? Something you find in a kpanty.
20 Sep 2012, 17:56 pm
Starting with Morne would be like the Battle of the Somme: One step forwards, two steps backwards.
20 Sep 2012, 18:56 pm
yessus thats a bladdy good interview.
Maak Os coach.
20 Sep 2012, 22:18 pm
Great interview. Can someone just confirm, is Pieter De Villiers still the official scrum coach? Seem to remember hearing about it once and then never again.
20 Sep 2012, 22:21 pm
@Yetirat-24: He’s still there.
21 Sep 2012, 05:20 am
@Yetirat-24:
Yes… he is answering scrum questions on the SARU site…
21 Sep 2012, 05:22 am
Naka Droske will one day coach the Boks, with Nienaber and Os his assistant, we will be world beaters. Till then, we will endure Mr Meyer, the coach that talk sense yet coach senseless. PdV is better than Meyer, its statistically a fact.
21 Sep 2012, 06:57 am
Ja broer, Os, she speaks the tongue most delightfully and makes a lot of sense. Why is he not in the Bok coaching mix?
Really, I think that, at Bok level, we lack coaches of international standard.
Finish and klaar.

Hmmmm Saffa rugby players with flair, hardly ever seen. More like dour and dull conservatism with thuggery thrown in.
A few SA players over the years did have flair….Joost VD Westhuizen, Joel Stransky, Bob Skinstad, Danie Gerber, Andre Joubert.
Most very dull and predictable. Tough and effective yes. Flair…NO
21 Sep 2012, 08:50 am
@Delki-29:
You obviously don’t know much about SA rugby if that’s your list. Besides Stransky was never a flair player.
21 Sep 2012, 09:06 am
Lol @cab
In my view things will come right. Goosen is definitely the future. Steyn must go.
Work hard on our defensive lineout – we need other teams to fear us there again. Great place to steal crucial possession at key times.
Bring in Niebenaar for defense coach
21 Sep 2012, 09:20 am
Guys, listen, we can have Gregan, Larkham, Gerber, Sella, Blanco in their prime, but if the coach does not encourage that type of game we are stuffed.
@wpallday-15: Both Pienaar and Hougaard are victims of the game plan. There is no urgency to get quick ball and to take it through the hands at pace – NOT LONG PASSES – THROUGH THE HANDS.
I agree that Pienaar has more potential than Hougaard to dictate play – he straightens the line brilliantly by the way he moves FORWARD and not SIDEWAYS when he passes. But I maintain: as long as the coach is not interested in playing what he deems to be “high risk rugby”, we will not see any flair. Even the use of that word is misleading. To the teams of old it was basic rugby to play it wide. Flair was to do extraordinary things – ala Campese, Blanco, Cullen etc. I am not asking for flair – I am asking for the basics of the game; especially the basics of backline play to return to our rugby
