Rovers crowned club champs

College Rovers beat Pretoria Police 23-10 in the final of the Saru National Club Championship on Friday.

The men from Kwazulu-Natal led 13-3 at the break thanks to a try by fullback Kobus de Kock, and two penalties and a conversion by Jors Dannhauser. Police managed just one penalty in reply, and in general battled to play the game in Rovers territory.

Andrew Borgen extended Rovers’ lead in the 55th minute, and Danhauser’s subsequent conversion took the score to 20-3.

Police battled to convert their own opportunities, and while they did score late in the piece through Heinrich Rademeyer, the Pretoria club had left themselves with too much to do with only 10 minutes remaining.

In the Plate final played earlier on Friday, Bloemfontein Police edged Welkom Rovers 17-15.
