Beale set to spearhead Wallabies

Kurtley Beale is likely to start at flyhalf when the Wallabies tackle the Springboks in Pretoria on Saturday.

Beale has struggled with form during his appearances at fullback during the Rugby Championship. But it’s believed he’ll play in the No 10 jersey this weekend, in place of the injured Quade Cooper, who’s also in trouble for his critical comments of the Wallabies and head coach Robbie Deans.

Berrick Barnes is also a flyhalf option, but he’s set to remain at fullback where he has impressed in recent matches.

While Beale has featured at pivot during his schoolboy and Waratahs days, it will be his first appearance in the position at Test level. He’ll partner Melbourne Rebels team-mate Nick Phipps in the halfback combination.

Boks need to target the untested halfback combo.

Beale is battling for form at 15, they have no choice really with Cooper out, Phipps is not up to par at all. If the Boks lose this one, then really, they only have themselves to blame/.

I would play Beale ahead of Cooper anyway. Cooper has been exposed as a bit of a ‘flat track bully’, and whilst he has some crazy skills when his head is right, he is a full time liability when the opposition get at his brittle mental state. I could easily see him just fading out of the picture unless he can get his head sorted. The current ‘spoilt brat’ behaviour is not going to help him either. What he needs right now is a serious ‘harden up’ message, not lots of attention paid to his idiot ramblings.
As for the game, I see a narrow win for the Boks based on one forwards try and several kicked goals, but they lack the attacking firepower to run up a big score against the Aus defense.

Aus could no worse than play James O’Connor at 12 when he returns. They lack a spark at inside centre; McCabe is a hard runner & brave defender however he’s not known for playmaking
