@David-265: Makes you wonder why SA or lets say a few of there fans want to play in the NH instead of against the best in the world. I know of a few players that have come back worse or in poor form from the NH.

@Hurricane-264: I think it was Murray Mexted who rated the 19 year old Frans as one of the most talented players he'd ever coached when he was at his institute. Whilst never living up to the hype, his game has definitely deteriorated whilst he was in France.

He was the one that given a chance he was going to put SBW in his place.
Since the beginning of the RC, Steyn hasnt looked like he would have made any impression on SBW.
Steyn would have been just another number that SBW walked all over.

Hahahahahahahahaha JDV being blamed for Frans Steyns failings. The last time I saw FS receives the ball before Jean does. Its more the other way around if you ask me. Way overrated

What happens when Taute has a kak game, in a position that he hasn’t played much in senior rugby? Will he be dropped next week, like Keegan Daniel or will he be coached to his best, like the failed attempt with Morne Steyn?

@corporal punishment-259: hes the man that never was... watching him over the years he is a selfish greedy player who would rather run into contact then create a gap for another player.. he is loved by many Saffas because he can kick a ball 60 metres, would and has never been named in a world 15 for good reason.. is ordinary..

As a teenager (go back and watch videos of him in the 2006 CC and the 2005 u19 WC) FS could step off both feet, but that was gradually coached ot of him over the years… Sad really, when you think of the player he could’ve become.

Perhaps the creativity these people are talking about is his big boot. Being able drop a goal from 60m is viewed in the same light as SBW’s offloads.

@poppa 258: my problem with frans is he is over weight. Like piri, he relies on his status as the go to guy when the team is under pressure but he simply can’t play to his potential when he is 10kg overweight.

Having said that, he had a pretty good game against the all blacks. He tackled well and got over the gain line in attack. He largely cancelled nonu out.

I guess he will hold his place until someone better comes along. But he had better watch out – he could find himself like piri, over taken by smith, and soon to be made surplus to requirements by Kerr Barlow and peranara.

I suppose my thoughts in Frans Steyn are clouded somewhat by his feeds in the second test v Abs 2009. I can’t remember any match winning performances since then,correct me if Im wrong,but he certainly has the ability to open a game wide open in tandem with Goosen

I have never seen him realy perform against the major rugby playing nations. One good thing about him is his big boot.Even playing along side Morne, you never really saw any brilliance except for bashing it up. He is certainly no Tim Horan or Jeremy Guscoty in terms of creativty. If bashing it up is creativity then he is the men. Braun but no brain.
