JP’s back in business

Bok wing JP Pietersen will wear the No 11 jersey for the Sharks in their Currie Cup match against the Free State Cheetahs in Bloemfontein.

Pietersen broke a thumb in the Super Rugby final that ruled him out of the entire Rugby Championship, but returns to bolster the Sharks for the latter stage of their Currie Cup campaign.

In other changes to the team that beat the Blue Bulls 13-12 at Kings Park, Louis Ludik starts at fullback, Meyer Bosman takes over from Riaan Viljoen at flyhalf, and Jandre Marais replaces Steven Sykes in the second row.

Sharks – 15 Louis Ludik, 14 Odwa Ndungane, 13 Paul Jordaan, 12 Tim Whitehead, 11 JP Pietersen, 10 Meyer Bosman, 9 Charl McLeod, 8 Keegan Daniel (c), 7 Jean Deysel, 6 Jacques Botes, 5 Anton Bresler, 4 Jandre Marais, 3 Wiehahn Herbst, 2 Pieter Dixon, 1 Dale Chadwick
Subs: 16 Kyle Cooper, 17 Allan Dell, 18 Peet Marais, 19 Tera Mtembu, 20 Cobus Reinach, 21 Riaan Viljoen, 22 S’bura Sithole

    Pity he wasn’t ready a week ago. He would have walked into the Bok team.

    @pokkel-1: the less sharks we have in the Bok team the better ;)

    I agree, that’s why I said a week ago. Hougie hasn’t been that great at wing so far. He’s more of an impact player than a starter IMO.

    @Transformation-2: hehehehehe……

    I really like JPP as a 13. If Jaco comes on well, he would be a great 15 in the Latham Mold. Frans 12, JPP 13 and Jaco 15 with Habs and Hougie (and maybe in a yr or two Rhule?)

    Man Bosman has been impressive at flyhalf! I wonder if he can restablish himeself as a worthy flyhalf

  • 7.goodstuff: Reply to this comment

    @strikers-5: JPP has some years left at 14, maybe in two to three years, but at the moment is probably the best winger in the game, why shift him to 13?

  • 8.Hop Hop Spinnekop: Reply to this comment

    @strikers-5: Last time JPP played 13 was against the Lions in SR. As I recall Mapoe made him his ******. Leave him on the wing.

    Where is Mvovo now?
    Is his hammy still playing up or is he part of the broader Bok setup and thus not allowed to play for the Sharks?

    Good looking side that.
    Loving the Whitehead, Jordaan parnership.

    Where he made JdJ his bi tch.

    But yes, I do agree with you. Leave him on the wing. He was playing exceptional rugby at 14 for the Boks and the Sharks.

    Mvovo is carrying tackle bags for the Boks

  • 12.pokkel: Reply to this comment

    Good Sharks team that barring perhaps the front row!

    @John Galt-10: You right, and he played 13 in the final. Dunno what I was thinking.

  • 14.John Galt: Reply to this comment

    Not enjoying Deysel at the moment.
    So one dimensional and upright in the tackle. Hardly ever makes yards anymore.

    Might be because he is/was recognised as dangerous so has more than 1 player marking him but that just means he needs to adapt. Not seeing it.

    I would like to see Mtembu get a decent run as well.

    Im also not sure why Mcleod is starting here. Rotation? Surely not, Reinach has only strated the last couple of games and been man of the match 1 (maybe 2) of them in terrible conditions.

    @John Galt-14: Terminal illniss with some loosies in SA, all running back straight up and getting clobbered. Schalk is worst at this.

    Would love to see JP in the Bok 15 jersey

    @strikers-5: jp had one good outing at 13 this year and that was against the stormers otherwise he was njeeee

    I thought JPP was very good whenever he played 13.

    @Bok fan-16:

    I agree.

    JPP started at 15 for the Sharks back in the day. He’s got a good boot on him, good in the air, tackles like a machine, attacks the line.

    Do it!

  • 21.Transformation: Reply to this comment

    @londonshark-18: no, you were dreaming about it..he was njeee

  • 22.willievz: Reply to this comment

    @londonshark-20: Made his test debut at 15 too if I’m not mistaken.

    @Transformation-21: JPP at 13 or wing would strengthen the current Bok team, no?

  • 23.Transformation: Reply to this comment

    @willievz-22: AT 13 not a sure bet, he has a lot to learn, at 15 he would be okay, he was comfortable against the all blacks in PE, caught out position a little but recovered.

    @Transformation-23: He played 13 at school?

    A converted player?

  • 25.Transformation: Reply to this comment

    @willievz-24: i have no idea where he played at school, he played wing for pdv’s Baby Bok team in 2006 though.

    I’m JPP’s groupie

  • 27.cuntlyn: Reply to this comment

    I’m also a JP groupie. Is there any reason why he should not play fullback again. Fancy him there. Would be a devastating link. Suppose he is too settled at wing by now?

  • 28.rangerman: Reply to this comment

    @Hop Hop Spinnekop-8: no, the last time JPP played 13 was when he made JdJ his beyatch at newlands.

    JPP is THE MAN!

    welcome back JPP, we missed you bud.

    @Transformation-25: as far as i know JPP played lock at school.

    he was good at 13 without being outstanding but given time at that position he would be devestating imo. the guy runs amazing lines.

    i am not convinced he has the kicking game for 15 but he surely can defend, f ark me can JPP defend.

    @cuntlyn-27: your nic is….uhm….well wtf is your nic? :lol:

  • 30.mshiniwami: Reply to this comment

    JPP with a decent run at 13 WILL be world class and it will come sooner or later (shift to 13)

    BUT

    in the meantime he is probably the premier ALLROUND winger in the game.Leave him there

    He will play 100 Tests for the Boks injuries permitting

    @Transformation-23:

    He was ok at 13 in the opening rounds of Superrugby.Played very well vs Stormers in semi & decently vs Chiefs

    So ndoda thats better than just Njeeeeee

    Nje is the way Jaque Fourie was playing all of last yr

  • 32.Transformation: Reply to this comment

    @rangerman-28: no, he played 13 where the Chiefs made him their beyatch :D

  • 33.Transformation: Reply to this comment

    @mshiniwami-31: jpp made no impression at 13 in the first couple of rounds and got beaten on defence too which is why plum pulled the plug on the experiment anyway…

  • 34.mshiniwami: Reply to this comment

    @Transformation-33:

    Cha cha cha

    He was decent,much like Lionel Mapoe was in 2010 when he was played at 13 for Cheetahs in ealy rounds.Now look at Mapoe,just needed some time to adjust,he tearing ish up at the moment.

    JP will be the Bok 13 in 18-24 months.Expect more of him there in next couple years for Shakrks.Wouldnt be suprised if Jordaan goes to wing

  • 35.rangerman: Reply to this comment

    @Transformation-32: yes yes transie.

    there were no mitigating factors.

    it was simply that JPP is just a poor 13.

    happy? :lol:

  • 36.rangerman: Reply to this comment

    @mshiniwami-34: i agree.

    JPP is all class. he will be one of those sharks players we will really mourn when he retires.

    jordaan would make a good wing with his pace and running lines.

    @John Galt-10: Actually he made the whole Stormers backline his b!tch….something Lionel ‘gold miner’ Mapoe was unable to do.

  • 43.Dusky: Reply to this comment

    @Transformation-32: JP Pietersen has more class and integrity as a rugby player in one drop of sweat, squeezed from his sock than the entire Kings rugby establishment. So should really not matter to you who he makes his b!tch or not.
