Goosen’s season is over
9 Oct 2012
Johan Goosen will be sidelined for the rest of the year as he undergoes surgery on his knee on Tuesday.
The 20-year-old Springbok flyhalf suffered a Grade 3 medial tear in his left knee during the first half of the Rugby Championship Test against the All Blacks last weekend.
Goosen confirmed to keo.co.za that he will go under the knife at 12pm on Tuesday. The final decision was made after doctors and specialists had different opinions on Monday.
It was believed that without surgery, there was still a chance for Goosen to recover in time to feature during the Boks’ end-of-year tour to Europe in November.
However, surgery will allow the player to enjoy a full recovery. He is expected to spend three months on the sidelines.
Goosen has had an unfortunate run with injuries in 2012. He suffered a dislocated shoulder during the Cheetahs’ 36-33 loss to the Highlanders in Bloemfontein in April. He also struggled with a heel niggle during the Rugby Championship.
Goosen’s absence will allow Morne Steyn, Elton Jantjies and Pat Lambie to compete for the Bok No 10 jersey during the November Tests.

@The Sharks rugby pedigree is packaged as dog food-845: Yes, you could manipulate it for sure, as the Sharkies wanted to, but I wanted to be as strict as possible.
We did OK to be honest.
I’d be inclined to do away with the place of birth because many people have been born elsewhere but call the province they grew up in home, like Schalk, Elstadt etc.
That would include one or 2 extra Sharkies in the eligibilty, but not as many as they would hope.
The fact is, anyway you paint it, most of the current sharks team are not dyed in the wool sharks, they either grew up elsewhere or played elsewhere. To illustrate:
1. Beast
2. Bismark
3. Jannie
4. PSDT
5.Juandre Marais
6. Deysel AND Botes
7. Alberts
8. Keegan AND Kanko
9. Mcleod
10. Bosman
11. Mvovo
12. Francois Steyn AND Tim Whitehead
13. Paul Jordaan
14. Louis Ludick and JP Pietersen
15. Riaan Viljoen
ALL grew up and went to school in another province.
In fact the only “True” Sharks I could find were Lambie and Bressler (who was born in Windhoek but went to school in KZN) and guys like Burden, Chadwick
There are more but I’m looking at the A team.
Province by comparison look a lot more “home grown”
Some of these guys went through the Sharks Academy, but the fact remains that they were “bought” albeit at a younger age.

Oh and Coetzee. Also a proper Shark by my above definition.

@Treehugger-849:
I’ve actually wondered whether to report Hills etc to the competition board for retail price maintenance. All the vets charge the same and there’s no competition for them.

@Treehugger-796: No no no….Elton must rot at the relegated Lions, becasue this is the 60′s after all. How dare he play for MONEY!!!

@David-853: Stop buying the stuff. They’re the Illuminati of the pet food industry (and their food is poor quality, check the ingredients) Honest.

@David-853:
they can get in line behind MTN and Vodacom.
I feed my attack dogs walkie talkies and mixed vegetables.

@stormersboy-851:
Botes went to Maritzburg College from std 7. i think.
Its farking difficult to work it all out though.
As you said earlier, even some of those Grey college graduates were poached from elsewhere. Serfontein was at Grey PE till std 6 or so as well.
And then think about this…
What about those players who came from provinces that formed part of the greater franchise.
Eg back when the Sharks included Border, EP etc. That means that Keegan, Kanko etc were essentially from Shark land, albeit just the Super Rugby franchise. Thats probably why they ended up at the Sharks academy.

@stormersboy-851:
Agree with your list.
The Sharks shop at a very young age. I have no issues with it.
Hell, Grey Bloem are the worst poaches in SA (yet they are hailed as ‘SA’s rugby factory’).

The goose is made of glass, go back to your strengths Morne’s your man.

Get UltraDog (50kg bag, R800). Pretty good value.

@NZINCHINA-860:
Lol, hush.
I now know why the All Blacks have owne SA since 92.
a: Better coaches.
b: I honestly think the AB jersey means more to NZL public/players than the Bok jersey does.
Besides for freaks like Dagg and Carter, I still believe SA has a better rugby ‘gene pool’. We just can’t get the talent out of them (or it’s coached out of them).

@londonshark-861: I pay between R1000-00 and R1200-00 for a 13.5 kg bag of Orijen.

@gunther-857: Heyneke is your attack dog?

&^%**^*&()%&, dude, are you nuts?????
What dogs do you have?
10 Oct 2012, 15:12 pm
@John Galt-858: @londonshark-859: Ja, it becomes confusing. Let me just say that I couldn’t give a continental where the player is born and where he went to school. When he pulls on the jersey he’s a WP player and he has my support.
It’s a pro game, and no one should ever have to justify why they move or play wherever they like.
My post was a response to SharksLover (who is a good friend of mine and who i respect) who was having an argument with others.
JG when i think of the old structures in WP players like Breyton (who played for the Boland, Bolla, Duvenhage) etc come to mind so yes, it gets confusing.
At the end of the day it’s a moot argument, they are there now and when they score a try the points go to WP or the Sharks. case closed.

@Treehugger-868: Each to their own.
We used to have a guy who took 10 boxes of pawpaw a week just to feed the wild birds in his garden.
And small dogs which would eat nothing but tinned food from Woolies…
10 Oct 2012, 16:58 pm
@BrumbiesBoy-869: nothing wrong with that, tin food full of preservatives.
10 Oct 2012, 20:17 pm
@londonshark-861: Despite all this helpful talk of dog food (i feed my dogs raw), I am still none the wiser as to what team you support
10 Oct 2012, 20:51 pm
@NZINCHINA-860: Morne doesn’t get injured cos he stands so deep in the pocket
I am disappointed all the Boks are turning out for their Curry Cup sides. This doesn’t bode well for the Bok EOYT – and I want to see a “nilling” of the NH teams this EOY season.
