Goosen’s season is over

Johan Goosen will be sidelined for the rest of the year as he undergoes surgery on his knee on Tuesday.

The 20-year-old Springbok flyhalf suffered a Grade 3 medial tear in his left knee during the first half of the Rugby Championship Test against the All Blacks last weekend.

Goosen confirmed to keo.co.za that he will go under the knife at 12pm on Tuesday. The final decision was made after doctors and specialists had different opinions on Monday.

It was believed that without surgery, there was still a chance for Goosen to recover in time to feature during the Boks’ end-of-year tour to Europe in November.

However, surgery will allow the player to enjoy a full recovery. He is expected to spend three months on the sidelines.

Goosen has had an unfortunate run with injuries in 2012. He suffered a dislocated shoulder during the Cheetahs’ 36-33 loss to the Highlanders in Bloemfontein in April. He also struggled with a heel niggle during the Rugby Championship.

Goosen’s absence will allow Morne Steyn, Elton Jantjies and Pat Lambie to compete for the Bok No 10 jersey during the November Tests.

sharks should send all their Kings, WP and Cheetahs players home, Bulls should do the same.

Daniel, Kankowski, Mvovo, Sithole, Reinach, Du Toit, Whitehead, Bosman, Viljoen, Jordaan, Bismark, JdP, JPP, Steyn, should all go home.

Who will they be left with Lambie, Chadwick, Beast from Zimbabwe, Bressler from Namibia and their few Lions mercenaries Alberts, Deysel and Ludick. See how they function on a half full tank of Jo’berg gas.

@Transformation-763: The only time SL turns black is when he spends too much time in the ‘tan can’ ;) Gold jewellery/tan can = recipe for reverse racial identity.

@corporal punishment-751: Pedigree is a registered dog food, made in Aussie of all places, not the worst stuff, but not of the superior quality they advertise all over the the world :) That compared to what my Rott eats: Orijen and Acana imported from Canada. Biologically appropriate dog foods made with human grade protein (Ranch raised NZ lamb, salmon, flounder, whole eggs, free range chicken, Alberta oats, Okanagan apples, Burbank potatoes etc. Incredibly high protein levels, zero grains and possibly the finest dog food on the planet, with a history to back it up :)

Translate this to provincial rubgy in SA and you will see my name is purely used as an irritant. The fishy folk dig it.

Jantjies will decide by next week

    ——————————————————————————–

    by Brenden Nel 10 October 2012, 10:33

Springbok flyhalf Elton Jantjies will decide his future by next week if all goes well.

Jantjies, who has been strongly linked with a big money offer by the Stormers, has a clause in his contract that allows him to play for another franchise if the Lions don’t play Super Rugby.

With the Lions excluded in favour of the Kings in 2012, Jantjies will decide between one of four teams he has been negotiating with, although sources in the Cape say the Stormers already have his signature promised.

Jantjies agent, James Adams, told supersport.com he met with the Jantjies family on Tuesday night, and took instructions as to which province to conclude negotiations with.

The flyhalf has been linked to the Kings, Bulls, Sharks and Stormers, with the latter the most viable option after they put a big money offer on the table for his services.

“We met on Tuesday to receive instructions. The decision was made as to which union we would enter into negotiations with. The move will only be finalised at the end of the week,” Adams told supersport.com via sms.

Jantjies is widely expected to accept the offer and will then return to the Lions ahead of their promotion/relegation match against the lowest-placed South African side at the conclusion of next year’s Super Rugby tournament.

On Wednesday, former Bok centre Brendan Venter told Die Burger that he believed Jantjies could be the difference between a good Stormers team and a championship winning team.

“His core skills are very good. He already has two seasons of Super Rugby behind him and Western Province will get a well-rounded player. He is a brave defender, something he never really gets credit for and he takes on the big forwards – up to a point where it could become a weak point because you don’t want your flyhalf to go to those lengths.”

In saying that for strong healthy dogs you should cook a pot of brown rice with finely chopped in season cheap veggies with good quality pets mince and just give them a dash of pellets in the morning to clean their teeth. Same for cats but more meat.

I actually don’t want Jantjies in Cape Town, I’m not a fan of this mercenary hunting big money bargaining business, I think it sucks to hell and don’t do either the franchises nor the players any good. Let Jantjies agent go get a better offer from sharkshits I rather they stock up on more players they don’t know wtf to do with, just like bully brekers.

I’m far more in favor of players playing for the franchise that reared them and gave them the wherewithal to showcase and develop their talent to begin with. Jantjies should rather go to Kings or Sharks and lets give some promising talent like Swiel full scope to develop into a top fly half here. Meantime Van Aswegen and Cole will have to carry the can with Grant till that happens. Pollard proved he’s just another money grubber just like Sadie and Engelbrecht before him. We don’t need no prima donnas here let them congregate at the guppyuppie tank like the rest of them.

  • 796.Treehugger: Reply to this comment

@fitz1ella-794: times have changed Skop, and money talks. Unions or franchises with the most will be trying to buy the better player and paying more to keep the ones they have. The public and sponsors I imagine want wins, so the more victories the happier the public and sponsors and more dosh, vicious cycle.

  • 797.stormersboy: Reply to this comment

@sharks_lover-785: Not necessarily, A lot depends on how you define “home town” players. Lets just say that we look at a team based on the following criteria:

    Born in the area, and
Went to school in the area, and
Played pretty much all their rugby for the province, including junior, and
Currently playing top level (CC and above) for the province.

Then we’d have a pretty useful young team actually:

    1. Kitshoff
    2. No clue
    3. Malherbe
    4. Eben
    5. Andries
    6. Schalk
    7. Elstadt
    8. Koster/Carr
    9. Groom/Schreuder
    10. Van Aswegen/Katrikilus
    11. De Allende
    12. Jean
    13. Juan
    14. Aplon
    15. Not sure

In addition we have players like Brache, Howard, etc who also will fit in there somewhere.

I can’t think of a hooker or a Fullback at the moment, as these positions are covered by players who are from other provinces, and for arguments sake I want to be fair.

Not a World beating team, but not too shabby either.

    OK your turn. :)

    PS you cannot have:

    Paul Jordaan
    Marcel Coetzee
    Keegan
    Alberts
    Jean Deysel
    Bismark
    Jannie
    Beast

    For starters……

    :D :D :D

I haven’t considered JP Du Plessis as he played overseas in Aus (only for a season but lets keep this strict)
