Goosen’s season is over
9 Oct 2012
Johan Goosen will be sidelined for the rest of the year as he undergoes surgery on his knee on Tuesday.
The 20-year-old Springbok flyhalf suffered a Grade 3 medial tear in his left knee during the first half of the Rugby Championship Test against the All Blacks last weekend.
Goosen confirmed to keo.co.za that he will go under the knife at 12pm on Tuesday. The final decision was made after doctors and specialists had different opinions on Monday.
It was believed that without surgery, there was still a chance for Goosen to recover in time to feature during the Boks’ end-of-year tour to Europe in November.
However, surgery will allow the player to enjoy a full recovery. He is expected to spend three months on the sidelines.
Goosen has had an unfortunate run with injuries in 2012. He suffered a dislocated shoulder during the Cheetahs’ 36-33 loss to the Highlanders in Bloemfontein in April. He also struggled with a heel niggle during the Rugby Championship.
Goosen’s absence will allow Morne Steyn, Elton Jantjies and Pat Lambie to compete for the Bok No 10 jersey during the November Tests.

@THE MAULER-799: Could be. Katrikilus then.
Elstadt went to Montague high but I believe he was born in Jhb so he’s out.
Feel free to edit if I’ve missed something, I’m genuinely curious,

Stormersboy Marcell went to school in Natal…
10 Oct 2012, 11:49 am
@stormersboy-801:
fukckadilly is from springs.
he must go and work there.
10 Oct 2012, 11:50 am
@THE MAULER-802: Read the criteria. He wasn’t born in Natal.
By the same token Elstadt went to school close by and played all his rugby for WP but was born in JHB. Post 800 excluded him.
Fair is fair,

@gunther-803: I thought he was from a different planet actually.
10 Oct 2012, 11:52 am
@stormersboy-797:
M Coetzee went to Port Natal.
I could argue the whole Sharks rugby academy but I think it would be futile with the like of fucadily.
10 Oct 2012, 11:53 am
Ok I give you that….
10 Oct 2012, 11:55 am
@John Galt-806: You haven’t read the original post properly have you?
Criteria:
Born in the province. AND
Went to school there AND
Played all their rugby, including Junior AND
Currently playing senior top level (CC or above) for the Province
Explain to me how he fits in. And the Sharks academy too please.
10 Oct 2012, 11:56 am
@stormersboy-808: Skops a whole different kettle of fish though
Not even going there!
10 Oct 2012, 11:59 am
@THE MAULER-807: Care to take the challenge?
Any other province’s supporter / arch-chair expert is also welcome.
@stormersboy-808: The reason that the place of birth is somewhat important is that a school like Grey poaches at school level and some of those guys play for FS, The fact is they were “bought” in the strictest sense of the work so they should be excluded.
10 Oct 2012, 11:59 am
@Treehugger-793: Yes the landmines are manageable
But we just thought that it was ’cause she is a puppy still
Our Boerboel had to be put down because of bone cancer and the vet told advised us to get this puppy on Hills to try and avoid the same fate for Bella as Giant dogs are prone to Bone cancer, then we thought it easier to just put the whole animal family on it

But i dont feel like getting into that either.
10 Oct 2012, 12:10 pm
Stormersboy correct on Grey… Paul Jordaan was born in the cape… So must have been poached by Grey…

@Sharksgirl-811: The vets push Hills, Iams, Royal Canin and Eukanuba because they pay for said vets holidays. Osteosarcoma is evil (also lost my old guy to it – which is why I took the search for the perfect food to the next level) Folk in the rottweiler world (Breeders and judges I have had dealings with in the USA, UK, NZ, Australia, Canada, Germany etc etc, put me onto the Orijen and Acana brands, as that is what many of them feed – and it’s available in SA. Others go the BARF route – raw feeding. Grain free is the way to go, or at most a single grain – like oats as an ingredient. Check this site out http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/ and see what ratings the various foods get. The Rottie world is like the rugby world – friends in Australia, Ireland, the UK, NZ
The only difference is when we talk about ‘chokers’ it’s usually relevant to the evil link choke chains and not fuckingup a rugby WC.
Back to rugby
@ryecatcher-819: DON’T GOOOOOOOOOO. You are one of the GOOD guys. The really good guys.

@The Sharks rugby pedigree is packaged as dog food-827:
I believe in a raw food diet.
10 Oct 2012, 12:41 pm
@sharks_lover-824: No I’m trying to say that if you took away all the players from each province that were not born there, went to school there and played all their rugby there (like the good old days) then that’s what we would have left.
Players like
Liebenberg
Fourie
Brok
Duanne
Grant
Habanna
Pieterson
would all be excluded,
BUT we’d still be able to field an ok team, certainly compared to other provinces. I don’t know what the Sharks (or any other province) would look like, which is why I threw it open for discussion.
I’ve also excluded the likelihood of other players like JJ, Sadie etc having stayed as a result of more game time if we didn’t have those players, as that’s all hypothetical.
10 Oct 2012, 12:43 pm
@sharks_lover-824: “….Your 10 Is a certain P grant…”
Hopefully not for long!!!
10 Oct 2012, 12:44 pm
@The Sharks rugby pedigree is packaged as dog food-827: Thank you very much! Will definitely go to the site! Yes now back to Rugby. See the Bulls have included all their returning boks as have the Cheetahs. Did anyone say rest?
Ofcourse we may know the Sharks’ team on Friday a few moments before kick off
10 Oct 2012, 12:46 pm
@WP-Forever-829:
If I had the time or the energy to cut up and weight organ meat, lean meat, fruit and vegetables, grasses, other supplements (Omeg3, glucosamine, chondroitin) I would do it for my boy. It’s easier going the Orijen route, and just adding additional Omeg3, GCS powder and every now and then things like chicken necks
Feeding the hound the BARF way is ideal though, Orijen is as close as, without the mess.
10 Oct 2012, 12:48 pm
@Stormersboy-797:
Schalk is out then… PE born.
10 Oct 2012, 12:50 pm
@THE MAULER-816: I think we’d all be surprised at how man sports children Grey poach from other schools.
Take Johan Goosen as a recent example. Born in Burgersdorp, Eastern Cape.
In all sports though, not just Rugby.
10 Oct 2012, 12:50 pm
@mxhosa-834: Well spotted! My mistake.
10 Oct 2012, 12:53 pm
A Player i forgot to include of course is Dewald Duvenhage. Must have been more wishful thinking on my part….
10 Oct 2012, 12:54 pm
@Sharksgirl-832: WP will be doing the same. Every last one of our Boks will play. You guys are lucky, you can afford to rest a few fellas – already have a home semi. Jannie, Beast, Marcell etc need a break desperately. Lambie, Burden etc can take their places – as there really is little risk, even if they are rusty.
We on the other hand (as with the other unions) need to win. Pity though, as Eben, Bryan and Jean could do with a time out. Tiaan, Juan, Duane (hasn’t played much), Bekker – hasn’t played too much this year can all play IMHO.
Then again, playing any of them at all comes with risk for the Boks, and if I had to choose….I would sacrifice the Currie Cup 100 times over to give the Boks a fighting chance.
10 Oct 2012, 12:56 pm
@The Sharks rugby pedigree is packaged as dog food-833: Sorry one last questin where do you find this Orijen in SA? Haven’t seen it.
10 Oct 2012, 12:58 pm
In breaking news, Kevin Curran, the former Zimbabwe batsman and national team coach, has died aged 53 early this morning in Mutare.
According to the Cricinfo website, a statement by Zimbabwe Cricket said he collapsed while jogging but the exact cause of death was yet to be determined.
Curran was coach of the Mash Eagles team and was in Mutare preparing for their T20 fixtures against Mountaineers on Wednesday and Thursday. Those games have been postponed.

@WP-Forever-826: nniti? oa makatsa
10 Oct 2012, 13:02 pm
@The Sharks rugby pedigree is packaged as dog food-838: Yes but I am a little worried, from reading the Natal Witness it sounds like the front row may be used on Friday. Why I am so keen to see our team sheet. Imo not good for boks nor Sharks, Beast looks really tired and Jannie has played non stop since Feb. We will see
Marcel has been benching for the last three games, so not too bad. Lambie will definitely play and if they play Lwazi who sits out? JP cannot sit out, Odwa has been one of our best backs this entire CC does not deserve to be benched.
10 Oct 2012, 13:05 pm
@katman-817:
Indeed, even blackpants is back sniffing our legs after his tearjearking retirement speech about “going out on top”.
My great uncle Harvey went out on top of his 19 year old Polish carer.
Its underrated.
10 Oct 2012, 13:10 pm
@Sharksgirl-839: I get it from a specialised store here in CT, and I know there are folk who import it. It might seem pricey, but you feed very little because of the high GOOD calorie protein content – so it adds up.

@stormersboy-830: Change the criteria
Players who matriculated in a province.
Our gain…. (and Free State’s gain)

@wpstormerbok-353:
> “Your original comment started off with a jibe at people who called for Goosen to start vs AB’s.”
Incorrect, It started and finished by calling out the people who were AGGRESSIVE when we said that Goosen should be phased in gradually. (operative word is aggressive)
> “My response was that that was the best option given the situation MEYER has created by making the wrong selections and lacking vision at the start of the International season.”
Your response is your opinion and that’s fine. But you started your response by asking me what I was on about, so I answered your question, simple as that…. I also disagree with your response that it was Meyer’s best option given the situation. I believe that starting Lambie (who has experience starting for the Boks already) would be the best option given the situation. But then, that’s just my opinion.
> “So it’s no enlightenment on your part that Goosen shouldn’t have been there, it’s unfortunately the results of a coach struggling to find his feet and sticking to and outdated rugby philosophy.”
It seems to me that you have missed the point of my original post. The post is not indicative of “enlightenment” on my part, nor does it claim to be… It’s really quite simple, many of us said that Goosen should be phased in gradually, but our warnings were met with aggression by some simple-minded people on this site. My post was a bit of a really just a bit of a rant. A justified one too, seeing as we turned out to be right, despite the aggressive attempts of the more simple minded kenners on here to tell us otherwise.
> “If you’re looking to blame somebody then you know where to turn to now.”
Again, you have missed the point of my post. At no point was blame that goal of the post. My post is simple. Some of us said it was too soon to start Goosen. We were aggressively told that we were wrong but actually we turned out to be right.
Perhaps you should read posts more thoroughly before commenting on them.

@gunther-843: Ja, Blackpantie’s dramatic exit was a bit like a midfielder for a nowhere team like Ipswich announcing his retirement while “at the top”, only to blow his career earnings over the next three months at a Blackpool casino and then slinking back to play for some third division Welsh team because his mom wants him to start paying the money she loaned him back.
10 Oct 2012, 13:21 pm
@Sharksgirl-811: Vets pump Hills as they the only place that sells it, take what the vet says and bone cancer in large dogs not to seriously, think all animals all illnesses like people. Remember they also have high cholesterol, diabetes and all that jazz, you just do the best you can.
