Lambie at 10 for Sharks

Lambie at 10 for Sharks

Pat Lambie will start at flyhalf for the Sharks in their Currie Cup clash against Griquas in Durban this weekend.

Lambie featured among the reserves throughout the Springboks’ Rugby Championship campaign, and has only played fullback when used off the wood by Heyneke Meyer.

Sharks head coach John Plumtree has decided to pick the 21-year-old at flyhalf for the game at Kings Park.

There’s only one other change to the starting line-up as Kyle Cooper replaces the injured Pieter Dixon.

Plumtree has also named four of his other returning Springboks (hooker Craig Burden, prop Jannie du Plessis, flank Marcell Coetzee and wing Lwazi Mvovo) on the bench.

Sharks – 15 Louis Ludik, 14 Odwa Ndungane, 13 Paul Jordaan, 12 Tim Whitehead, 11 JP Pietersen, 10 Pat Lambie, 9 Cobus Reinach, 8 Keegan Daniel (c), 7 Jean Deysel, 6 Jacques Botes, 5 Anton Bresler, 4 Jandre Marais, 3 Wiehahn Herbst, 2 Kyle Cooper, 1 Dale Chadwick.
Subs: 16 Craig Burden, 17 Jannie du Plessis, 18 Peet Marais, 19 Marcell Coetzee, 20 Charl McLeod, 21 Meyer Bosman, 22 Lwazi Mvovo.

    Is this Plum telling all of us who his number 10 will be going forward? That settles the Jantjies mystery.

    That my friends …is one hell-a-va backline ! This centre pairing will tear up opposition for seasons to come!! Alla memories of early Barritt an Murray…..Difference is both these centres are confident in their own abilities and on their own…..Murray has never been the same player with-out Barritt as his leader. I am still struggling with the HRE coaching injection.If some-one wants to convince me other-wise w/ this I will listen.I would love to have a really good replacement behind Beast tho. Damn I would chase this kid Kitshoff bloody hard.

    10.. sharks were shite for the first 9 games of the supercomp

  • 13.Puma: Reply to this comment

    @Brigadier Van Zyl-12: Brigadier, I think you talking shite yourself. Only team that Sharks lost to in the first 9 games and never picked up a bonus point was against the Canes. So could hardly call the Sharks shite! We should have beaten the Stormers and Bulls had it not been for Lawerence and Kaplan that totally blew us out the park. We only lost to Bulls by 5 points and Stormers by 3. Canes were the only team in the first 9 games to comprehensively beat us and it was Fred playing fh in that game.

  • 14.Puma: Reply to this comment

    Just looking at Sharks backline and have to say that is one awesome backline for sure.

  • 15.Sharksgirl: Reply to this comment

    @Brigadier Van Zyl-12: Oh Brigadier put facts in context and you may get a truer story! That may true but lets remember that a great deal of our 1st choice pack were also out injured – Beast, Willem, Deysel,

    Don’t let facts ruin your argument!

  • 16.David: Reply to this comment

    @Sharksgirl-15:
    Was Deysel first choice? C’mon, 2 out of 8 isn’t “a great deal of our first choice pack”.

  • 17.Puma: Reply to this comment

    @Sharksgirl-15: For sure we were missing some of our first choice players, but realy we were not rubbish as Brigadier thinks. Even without those players. We lost by a few points in most of those games and still picked up bonus points where we lost, except against the Canes. Results could easily have gone either way.

    @Puma-17: typo = really

  • 19.Puma: Reply to this comment

    @David-16: Kanko was out injured as well. He was brilliant when we got him back from injury. Remember he only started in the Bulls game and that was our 2nd last game before the play offs.

  • 20.John Galt: Reply to this comment

    @David-16:
    Jannie, Beast, Alberts, Kanko. All out at the beginning of the season.

    Thats a key 4 out any SA pack my man.

  • 21.David: Reply to this comment

    @Puma-19:
    Hell, compared to the Stormers forwards injury list you guys got off lightly.

  • 22.John Galt: Reply to this comment

    @David-21:
    No no, that only happened later. And mostly only to loosies, burger, Vermuelen etc.
    We had the fulcrum of our pack out for the first 3 or 4 crucial games.

  • 23.Puma: Reply to this comment

    @David-21: Not so David. We had our key players out at the start and we still managed to pick up bonus points in just about all our games. Whether 4 tries bonus points or losing bonus points we were right there still doing the job.

    Without Jannie and Beast in our front row at the start think we done okay. Once we got Beast back it all changed and we were on a roll. We got Alberts back the week before Beast and only got Kanko back for the Bulls game just before the play offs.

    What you think of our backline for this CC? Looking forward to seeing Lambie and Reinach playing together. Just hope Lambie is not too rusty from all the sitting on the bench by the Boks.

  • 24.Puma: Reply to this comment

    @David-21: Also you have to take into account we had those players out from the start. Our start was very tough this year playing Bulls and Stormers away. We came away from those games with a losing bonus point. Think Stormers have the same start as Sharks had this year. They play Bulls and Sharks away at the start. Tough to start a comp like that. And to think of it Sharks still managed to get to the final! We did the hard way but we got there.

  • 25.Puma: Reply to this comment

    @durbs2atl-11: I would rather have the Lions LH come to the Sharks. Think he is going to be awesome. Would have liked him to be covering Beast in SR next year.

  • 26.Puma: Reply to this comment

    Just read on SW that Taute will play for Stormers SR next year.

  • 27.grant10: Reply to this comment

    Stormers have a difficult start to Super 15 next year…..

    I reckon Sharks will be SA best bet to win title.

    If Sharks can avoid injuries and get Bissy back, and continue to play that exciting brand of offload rugby, I hope they win the damn thing….At least they play ‘ brave ‘ rugby, more than I can say for the coma inducing negative cowardly rubbish the Stormers dished up…..

    Good heavens it was like watching paint dry…

  • 28.Puma: Reply to this comment

    Article says that AC will use Taute at center and fullback. Think it is a good move to go to Stormers as Sharks have probably right now the best fb in the country in Ludik. We also covered with Viljoen.

    Taute is a better Fullback that Joe at Stormers so I personally would play him at fb and not centre at Stormers. JdJ should be playing 13.

  • 29.David: Reply to this comment

    @Puma-23:
    Your backline looks great. I just hope that we get Jantjies so that Lambie gets a good run at 10 next year. HMs insistence that Lambie’s only a 15 needs to be shown as the idiocy that it is.

  • 30.Puma: Reply to this comment

    @grant10-27: Grant I just read that Taute has definitely signed with Stormers. Think he will be great for Stormers at FB. Leave JdJ at outside centre.

    Look about your start next year you have to remember Sharks had the same start this year. We still managed to make the final, so who says your team will not?

  • 31.Sharksgirl: Reply to this comment

    @David-16: those were the only ones I mentioned there were more, Kankowski and Jannie Dup also missed most of those games, I was just trying to refresh his memory a bit. We all try and leave out salient facts to try and make our argument stick, I might use the game Sharks vs Cheetah 2011 Currie Cup at Kings park where Lambie outplayed Goosen and brought us back from a 13 point deficit to win, and use it to state that maybe he is not Gods gift to Boks after all, but I wont because that is not the whole story is it now?

  • 32.Sharksgirl: Reply to this comment

    @Sharksgirl-31: He as in Goosen!

  • 33.Puma: Reply to this comment

    @David-29: David I am excited to see that backline play for Sharks. Not just tomorrow but for next year in SR. They will need game time together, but heck that is some backline buddy! Those players are there to play. Really excited to see Lambie and Reinach. Also Jordaan and Timmy have played superb together. To think we still have Fransie to come next year. I can tell you Fransie will not be a bash it up player for the Sharks. At Sharks he will play to OUR game plan. We still have Mvovo as well on the bench. Once game fit think he will slot in. Odwa though has been great.

    See Taute has signed for Stormers. I too hope that you get Jantjies. It would allow all our great fhs to get to start in their perferred positions. I think he will go to Stormers after Plum has shown his hand here by selecting Lambie at 10. He has said again Lambie is Sharks first choice fh. So no way does Elton want to be on the bench at our franchise. He will head to Stormers.

    @grant10-27:
    disagree.
    still that top two inches missing in how plum’s going about it. they are the best placed in terms of their player squad strength, their positive style of rugby and time spent together as a team, so will be gelling well.

    but, its the little things he’s not doing that speaks volumes. capable backup and bench strength being one of them.

    Interesting last night on Reunion, Mitchell was saying LAmbie should be the Bok 12??

  • 37.John Galt: Reply to this comment

    I think all this Lambie excitement needs to be tempered somewhat.

    I have my doubts as to whether he will set KP alight after holding tackle bags for what seems like months now.
    He must just be solid, do the basics right and try make those around him with the x factor look good.

    I am pleased to see Plum drafting him straight back in to 10, it gives you a plain as day idea as to where Plum will play him next year.

    Also very interested to see how Daniel, Reinach, Whitehead, Jordaan, JP etc feed off him in the coming weeks.

  • 38.Puma: Reply to this comment

    @sharks_lover-36: Forgot to watch that show. Then Mitchell has said it before on one of the articles on another blog. Probably Lambies good defence and the way he reads the game, also his excellent distribution. Mitchell wanted JdJ/Taute at 13 with Lambie at 12 and think Goosen at 10 or Jantjies. Interesting that.

    Well we know for sure if he was our coach we would have all our play makers on the field playing and not some just wasting away on the bench. Think we need another Bok coach. For now just don’t think Meyer has what it takes. Also read on Super Sport yesterday Meyer said he never selected Lambie at fh this year only because he never saw him play at fh as he was mostly used only at fb? Now really if he said that he is a liar. As we all know Pat played mostly at fh this year.

    Another thing selection for Boks will always be key. Meyer is still not sure who should start or not. Should have known by now. He changed his locks from the locks that smashed the ABs in Dunedin as well. Just makes one think that he is no too sure of himself.

  • 39.Puma: Reply to this comment

    @John Galt-37: For sure. Hope the youngster is not too rusty after sitting on the bench for almost 2 months. Can’t really judge him too much tomorrow night. Like you say hope he just has a solid game to get back into things.

  • 40.sharks_lover: Reply to this comment

    @John Galt-37: Hohn it aint about Lambie excitement, its merely an observation as to how a coach from another province or country sees a player and where he should play.

    As for Lambie playing 10?? it is prolly his most natural position and the fact thaat HM was busy slaughtering Lambies career ( well a few other players included) is what is making people get behind Lambie even more.

    It is also a real pity Frans Steyn is injured, I would have liked to see the interplay between this backline?

    15 Ludick
    14 JPP
    13 Jordaan
    12 Frans
    11 Mvovo
    10 Lambie
    09 Reinach

    In saying that Whitehead has also been very good, and if they can all stay injury free the next few weeks could be interesting.

    As for Taute going to Stormers i think thats a good call, Jantjes?? I would still like to see him coming to the Sharks, yes I believe Lambie should be the Starter at 10, but it is a long grueling tournament and when injuries occur it gets longer.

    Lambie this past year spent a long time out due to injuries, what cover would we have then?? Zeilinga is not puttiing up his hands yet to be the replacement, And Bosman lacks consistancy there.

  • 41.jacoshark: Reply to this comment

    lambie will help the sharks to the CC title
    and heyneke will look like the real d-oos he is

    already clutching at straws as is with his selections thus far

    heyneke out

  • 42.sharks_lover: Reply to this comment

    Another thing is people thinking Fransie is just a bash up artist? not so as seen so many times before you need a strong ball carrier come defender with good hands in the offload, Frans is that kind of player.

    I believe the likes of Lambie, JOrdaan, Ludick, JPP, Mvovo could cause other teams major problems if they read and link with fransie, running off the ball into good spaces.

  • 43.sharks_lover: Reply to this comment

    SO for me the Sharks need to get 2 players still to complete the puzzle

    The Lions capt ( prop) and Jantjes

    And of course get Bissy and Kanko back, both will only be back though come end Jan 2013

  • 44.Puma: Reply to this comment

    @sharks_lover-43: I would like us to get the Lions LH. Mentioned that above. Would be awesome if we had that kinda cover for Beast. As for Jantjies I think it would mess one or the other around. Either Jantjies or Lambie will be sitting on the bench, or Lambie playing FB. I don’t think that is good for either player. However, I would love to have both of these world class fhs at the Sharks then we would have cover at fh for the whole season. Just think like I said one or the other will take the fall on the bench or at fb. I personally think that would allow one of them to slip back in their play. They both need to start at fh all of the SR season, the only way is they both need to play for different franchise.

    For now Bosman has come on very nicely this CC season. He could be back up for Lambie during SR.

    @sharks_lover-43: Wonder how long Rhule has signed for Cheetahs? Damn he is good. Now there is a player I would have loved to see at the Sharks.

  • 46.sharks_lover: Reply to this comment

    @Puma-45: Good player young Rhule, but where to for Mvov and Sithole then??

  • 47.rangerman: Reply to this comment

    thank f uk pat is out of that bonehead meyers hands finally.

    i fully expect some rustiness from pat this weekend after meyer really showed what a clueless chop he is but i have no fear pat will get better and better.

    as for connie, what a player he is and though it would be good to have him at the sharks i think he should go to the stormers for the good of sa rugby.

    roll on cc!

  • 48.Puma: Reply to this comment

    @sharks_lover-46: I know. Also think Mvovo will get better. Played really well for Sharks this year. Just that Rhule is only 20 years old. Big strong young player. Think he is going to be a great will become one of the best like JPP. So have no idea how long he has signed with Cheetahs. No doubt will play there next year, but what about the following year? Would love for him to come to Sharks.

    I rate Sithole but really don’t think he is the same mold as Rhule. Rhule will be world class in another year. Still have to see him play SR granted next year.

  • 49.rangerman: Reply to this comment

    rhule is certainly a talent of note.

    rate that kid.

    but mvov’s must show the bok coach the finger and perform because putting hougie on the wing was utter bs imo.

    cant wait to see fransie and paul jordaan play together next year.

  • 50.Puma: Reply to this comment

    @rangerman-47: Howzit Ranger,

    What you think of our backline for tomorrow night? Jeez if it does not rain think we could see some good rugby coming from them.
