Sarries, Clermont excel in Euro Cup wraps up the weekend’s European action.

Saracens and Clermont picked up the biggest wins of the first round as the thrashed Edinburgh (45-0) and Scarlets (49-16) respectively.

Saracens scored five tries in their triumph, while flyhalf Charlie Hodgson kicked 20 points with the boot as Edinburgh were kept scoreless at Murrayfield.

Clermont eased to victory as Scarlets wing Morgan Stoddart was sent off permanently in the 37th minute for a second yellow card. The French club converted a 16-13 half-time lead into a 33-point win, scoring six tries in total.

In other results, English Premiership champions Harlequins and Ulster eased past Biarritz (40-13) and Castres (41-17) respectively. Ulster remain the only unbeaten club in Europe.

Toulon carried their fine French Top 14 form into their clash against Montpellier to achieve a 37-16 win.

In the European Cup Challenge, the Worcester Warriors crushed Spanish club Bizkaia Gernika 85-5, while Perpignan smashed Rovigo 79-12.

Bath, Stade Francais, London Irish, Gernoble and Bayonne also won by big margins.
