Nonu signs with Highlanders
16 Oct 2012
All Blacks centre Ma’a Nonu has joined the Highlanders.
Nonu moved from the Hurricanes to the Blues in 2012, and after one season, he is ready to leave Auckland.
Nonu told reporters on Tuesday that he had signed with the Highlanders, and expressed his excitement at the prospect of playing for the Dunedin franchise in 2013. He also said that family reasons had influenced his decision.
The Highlanders have already signed All Blacks prop Tony Woodcock, and there are rumours that World Cup-winning lock Brad Thorn may link up with the franchise too.

No loyalty, breaking verbal agreements. Although the Highlanders will have quite a potent backline next season, filled with All Blacks.

Family reasons? That’s a New Zealand euphemism for a restraining order.

@poppa69-10: No, but for 20 points, why don’t you tell us everything you know about that. Also, please mention rape and AIDS, and see if you can make a connection between these subjects and being white. Your time starts now.

The Landers certainly seem determined to go one better next season.
Some very good signings. If they get Brad T as well……
Where to for the Blues though…most of their signings have been rather low key ones.

@The Sharks rugby pedigree is packaged as dog food-15: i see JK crying that he wouldn’t have allowed Hadleigh Parkes to come to the Kings if he knew Maa was defecting…

@The Sharks rugby pedigree is packaged as dog food-15: nonu wants to play with aaron smith, tamati ellison, ben smith, adam thomson, andrew hore tony woodcock and possibly thorn…

@Transformation-16: Too late for tears….. It does seem as though Ma’a pulled a fast one on Kirwin though.

@Transformation-17: Jamie J has done great work since taking the reigns. Their ONLY problem the last 2 seasons, has been their lack of squad depth. This alone, IMHO, has kept them out of at least one playoff.
With the quality of his starting 15 (plus the additional ‘weight’ he will now have on the bench) Jamie must be rubbing his hands – you are 100% correct there
My fave facet of the Highlanders play, is how what ‘looks to be uuter chaos and confusion’ at the breakdown – is in fact a thing of beauty

Check this out. 15.Isaia Toeava 14. Rene Ranger 13. Benson Stanley 12. Ma’a Nonu 11. Rudi Wulf 10. Piri Weepu 9. Albie Mathewson 8. Brad Mika 7. Daniel Braid 6. Jerome Kaino 5. Ali Williams 4. Anthony Boric 3. Charlie Faumuina 2. Keven Mealamu 1. Tony Woodcock
The Blues squad at the start of the 2012 season. 14 test players. !5 now with Faumuina capped. No wonder Pat Lam and all the Blues suypporters were confident. Whats on paper dosent always turn out the way you want does it.

@rewa hard-25:
But look at that team, glaring weaknesses at
Stanley out of position not a 13
Wulf over the hill
Piri Weepu never a 10
Albie Mathewson weak 9
Mika was never any good as a loosie,a diluted version of Filipo
Kaino heart never in it,Japan long been calling
Ali been a gimp,Boric pathetic
Toeava never finishes a season.ever
Lots of players were on rep not actual form
Plus Lam weak coach
Highlanders under Joseph taken from scratch into a decent outfit.
Nasi Manu fast developing into a battering ram supremo.in my view he should have been in AB ahead of either Messam/Thompson.
