Cheetahs tweak pack

The Free State Cheetahs have made three changes to their starting line-up for the promotion-relegation play-off against the EP Kings on Friday.

All changes occur among the forwards. Injured tighthead prop Coenie Oosthuizen is replaced by Ross Geldenhuys, while Francois Uys is shifted from flank to lock with Carl Wegner dropping to the bench. Lappies Labuschange returns from injury to get a spot in the loose trio.

Interestingly, head coach Naka Drotske starts Andries Strauss at inside centre, despite the fact that the player will move to the EP Kings at the end of the season.

Cheetahs – 15 Hennie Daniller, 14 Nico Scheepers, 13 Robert Ebersohn, 12 Andries Strauss, 11 Raymond Rhule, 10 Sias Ebersohn, 9 Sarel Pretorius, 8 Phillip van der Walt, 7 Lappies Labuschange, 6 Hendro Scholtz, 5 Izak van der Merwe, 4 Francois Uys, 3 Ross Geldenhuys, 2 Adriaan Strauss (c), 1 Marcel van der Merwe
Subs: 16 Hercu Liebenberg, 17 Schalk van der Merwe, 18 Carl Wegner, 19 Davon Ruabenheimer, 20 Tewis du Bruyn, 21 Phillip Snyman, 22 Rayno Benjamin.

Go the Cheetahs, SA’s most entertaining side. A Currie Cup without them just does not seem right.

In terms of what’s best for rugby transformation in SA, it’s six of the one, half a dozen of the other between these two teams. Both feature two black players on the field and one on the bench.

    So go Cheetahs.

Here’s an idea for a poll, keo:

What will be the outcome of the promotion/relegation match between the Cheetahs and the Kings?

a.) Cheetahs will win and remain in the Premier Division
b.) Kings will win and replace the Cheetahs
c.) Cheetahs will win and Cheeky will successfully appeal for a rematch
d.) Cheetahs will win but SARU will decide to accommodate the Kings anyway

massive conflict of interest for Andries Strauss – surprised they have played him, lose lose situation for the poor guy.
Play badly and he’ll get roasted for throwing it on purpose.
Play well and his new team don’t make currie cup.
