EP suffer late blow

The EP Kings have lost wing Marcello Sampson to a groin injury ahead of their Currie Cup promotion-relegation clash against the Free State Cheetahs on Friday.
The speedster hurt himself during the captain’s run and will be replaced by wing Michael Killian. Norman Nelson provides cover on the bench for the match in Bloemfontein.
Sampson joins captain Luke Watson, lock Darron Nell, prop Schalk Ferreira and utility back Tiger Mangweni on the Kings’ injury list.
EP will face a weakened Free State Cheetahs team, who are without 13 first-choice players (including Springboks Coenie Oosthuizen, Heinrich Brussow and Johan Goosen). However, director of rugby Alan Solomons stressed that the hosts will still be favourites.
‘Participation in the Premier Division is crucial for us,’ Solomons told keo.co.za. ‘We are competing in the Super Rugby next year, so to play in the top domestic competition will increase the growth of our team and our junior players.
‘However, it’s going to be a tough challenge to achieve that against Free State. Normally you play one of the smaller unions in the promotion-relegation play-offs, but we have to beat one of the top five unions in the country.
‘As a top union and a Super Rugby franchise, the Cheetahs have the depth to replace those injured players. As a First Division union, we don’t have the same kind of depth. But our junior players have stepped up; lock Reynier Bernardo and inside centre Shane Gates are both still U21 and are from our academy.’

Ahh man atleast EP gets represented. Fed up with the colour of your skin being a reason to be picked. Bullshit. They had a good enough team to win the 1st division and if they get to the premier divison they will have done it the right way. Its nice to see a change up. All people on here talk balls about an all white team get a life. The strongest team should be picked to build the base for serious rugby in EP. Forget the traditionalist supporters.

I was paraphrasing some Kings advocate/struggle hero who felt very strongly that black kids had a fundamental problem in looking up to white players if they’re not called Richie McCaw. That was part of the whole push for the Kings nonsense: to give kids in the region heroes they could identify with.
Try to keep up with the rugby struggle rhetoric here.

Both Toulon and Castres turned him down when they heard of his history. Not only did he punch and choke his pregnant wife, in a separate incident he also went over to some bouncer’s house and assaulted him too. That’s when they deported him back to Samoa.

Don’t get me wrong – Fish Hoek has a fantastic beach and is on a spectacular stretch of coastline, and if you’re up against the slope you have amazing views. But the heart of Fish Hoek, the Main Road, is dull, depressing and filled with business that remind me of Kilburn, the part of London I stayed in for a year or so. And that’s not a good thing.

I know the latter three unfortunately, had to go there as a youngster in 86 when the Witdoeke and Comrades were chopping each other up
We stayed at the Goodwood Showgrounds, all I remember was the wet, grey winter
