Cheetahs crush Kings

Cheetahs crush Kings

GARETH DUNCAN watched the Free State Cheetahs cruise to a 53-14 win over the EP Kings in Bloemfontein.

Despite the loss of 13 first-choice players to injury, Free State hammered the First Division champions in the first leg of the promotion-relegation play-offs. The hosts grabbed four tries on the each side of half-time to secure the big win.

Inside centre Andries Strauss, who will join the Kings next season, grabbed a brace, while tighthead prop Ross Geldenhuys, wing Nico Scheepers, No 8 Phillip van der Walt, hooker Adriaan Strauss and wing Rayno Benjamin crossed the chalk. Referee Jonathan Kaplan also awarded Free State a penalty try at the death.

The EP Kings were behind 24-0 at the break, and scored two consolation tries during the second stanza via flank Devin Oosthuizen and inside centre Shane Gates.

The second leg will be played in PE next weekend, but it’s highly unlikely that the Kings will be able to come back from this massive deficit. The Cheetahs landed a knockout blow in the first round.

@umkhonto-189: Well I have never been to Soccer City bud, but have been to Ellis Park so many times. The parking there is a nightmare. Used to park about 1km or even further away in the streets to get parking. Not very safe either. I am talking about Tests there. Only been to a few Super Games there when Sharks have played. For me Ellis Park must put off a lot of the Lions supporters. Not a good area at all to be in, for parking or going home after. Saying that not that sure of the parking now after it was refurbished for the Soccer World Cup. We went to watch the BIL test there and had to park a long way in the street near the rail way bridge. Horrible area. After that never went there again. Soccer City has to be better bud.

@Puma-203: Soccer City is great but Ellis still one of the best stadiums to watch a game especially when it’s full. The whole infrastructure changed the last couple of years. It’s better than what it used to be but still not ideal.

I think the field will be in such a mess at KP come 5pm, especially that the u21 semi will be played first.

If this game is called off and that could happen…hehe. Sharks stay top and hold the final next week. Rain coming down quite heavy now.

@KWAGGA ROBERTSE-208: I used to go to every test there. Always got box tickets. Not always a parking though. So agree, watching rugby there was always great. Just the parking used to put me off. Eventually used the park and ride from Monte Casino. Far better. Have not been back there now since the BIL test there.

Almost went to Soccer City for this Bok test against the ABs now just damn pleased I never. Hate to go and watch our Boks getting beat like that.

@Puma-156: Why can’t they be competitive with 7 injuries? The Stormers had the same amount and even more injuries in 2011 and 2012, topped the SA log both times and only made fools of themselves in the play-offs. It’s a question of mental toughness and management, something the half-arsed Lions and their Kevin “Kolhaas” de Klerk know nothing of.

I can’t stand the Kings, hope they get thrashed by 100 points to nil everytime, but the fact is, the Lions are just as poor, and the Cheetahs are only marginally better, I doubt that even combined those three would be able to push a contender in the field.

SARU may be incompetent arse-clowns, but they gave the Kings what they wanted, and the Lions got what they deserved for being perennial under-achievers and semi-professional at best. Recruiting bench players from other unions, believing they can get performance out of a player, that cannot even break into their previous union’s match 22.

Always the questions about their liquidity, always the vague answers, the idiocy their for all to see like the Guma-fiasco, the Mitchell-farce, Kevin de Klerk coming out like a scolded child after they were voted out, “Now we know where we stand with the Cheetahs and the Stormers.” Ag please, its a business, if you run it like a school creche, you will reap the rewards, if you didn’t constantly LOSE, you’d have been the team voting the Cheetahs out…

    hmmm

SA doing its best to try and ensure they get teams into the finals of Super rugby by proving that they cant even maintain five competitive teams… guess the kings inclusion is really an admission of such… and to think many SA fans want 6 teams in super ruigby? hahahaha deluded…

reminds me of the Bulls/Stormer semi final that was also conspired to get both teams into the final..

    filthy cheating scum…

    Poopy

You are the same as “I_love_u_bakkies-botha”.

Both small minded and obsessed with one issue.

The same as Hondo – who only ever posts about refs and ******* and associated conspiracies.

    All repetitive and monotonous.

    All boring.

Don’t you all have anything new to say for a change?

@Liewe Luiperd-221: Im not obsessed with one issue..

just sad to see what was once a great rugby nation now floundering with the also rans… the cotinual blaming of others for your own failings is hilarious, I really enjoy seeing it..you know, stuff like travel disadvantage which has now been laid to rest by an AB team who went to Argentina then to the highveldt and won convincingly..
