Cheetahs crush Kings

Cheetahs crush Kings

GARETH DUNCAN watched the Free State Cheetahs cruise to a 53-14 win over the EP Kings in Bloemfontein.

Despite the loss of 13 first-choice players to injury, Free State hammered the First Division champions in the first leg of the promotion-relegation play-offs. The hosts grabbed four tries on the each side of half-time to secure the big win.

Inside centre Andries Strauss, who will join the Kings next season, grabbed a brace, while tighthead prop Ross Geldenhuys, wing Nico Scheepers, No 8 Phillip van der Walt, hooker Adriaan Strauss and wing Rayno Benjamin crossed the chalk. Referee Jonathan Kaplan also awarded Free State a penalty try at the death.

The EP Kings were behind 24-0 at the break, and scored two consolation tries during the second stanza via flank Devin Oosthuizen and inside centre Shane Gates.

The second leg will be played in PE next weekend, but it’s highly unlikely that the Kings will be able to come back from this massive deficit. The Cheetahs landed a knockout blow in the first round.

Kings will be better at home though.

  • 17.Brentie1: Reply to this comment

Both teams without some of their better players, but the Cheetahs missing 13 of their front line players just underlined the difference between first and premier
    league

  • 18.Brentie1: Reply to this comment

Let us hope the Southern Kings will offer sterner opposition in Super 15,because teams like the Chiefs are capable of putting 100 points on the
    board in 60 minutes.

Well done Cheeky and the EP clowns, fielding only two players of colour and both as subs, you are really doing your bit for development!! These guys will do the aussies and kiwis proud in the S15 walking bonus points, only good thing is that the other SA teams will get 10 points !

  • 22.Guns: Reply to this comment

Sharks last weekend probably would have put at least 70/80 on this kings team!
And is Andries straus not joining them!? He must be so excited now! ;) long road ahead! Lions were actually looking alright with Ackers! Pity their road ran out..

  • 23.cab: Reply to this comment

Sounds like mitchells flown the coup – gdam idiots allround – Mitchell for his hisdyfits and the lions players for not taking it. WTF I thought it woulda been easy / they lost a damn good coach there – allround they didn’t factor injuries into account – they were decimated in 1st half of s15 and never recovered.

GARETH DUNCAN says the Kings should become a stronger entity than the Cheetahs, no matter what happens in the upcoming Currie Cup promotion-relegation play-offs.

I think the Kings will provide a challenge against a weakened Free State outfit. But I admit that domestic promotion would be a surprise, especially when you consider the fact that the current Kings side isn’t much stronger than the team that lost to the Pumas in the 2010 play-offs.”

Gareth D you idiot. The FS B team just moered them by 8 tries and by +40 points. Next year they get reinforcements from the Griquas who will murder these entitled white EP boys by +38 points.

You are a big dissapointment, you have become Keo’s mouth piece, a brainless writer who copy and pastes kak Keo written articles puting your name to it.

    Pfffft grow some balls boy.

  • 30.cab: Reply to this comment

Was that a fullstrength kings side tho? Cos the team I saw anounced the other day for the s15 was bladdy good.

Both lions and kings shoulda been playing – I said way back when hoskins and marinos, the two technocrats, were trying to mic it with a slightly ballsier technocrat oneil who has no love for the game in the slightest, only for his own cv, job done one Melbourne rebels – oz have 5 franchises what horseshit – sa should have 6 got nothing to do with quality, anyone with money can fly in a squad of 30, easy as, in fact, the rebels been outright **** with the money and quality at their disposal.

I expect the title of this thread to hastily change to one of the below, once Keo has given Gareth an urgent call on his cell.

“Gutsy Kings go down fighting in Bloem.”

    “Unlucky Kings pipped by Cheetahs.”

“Cheetahs get bounce of the ball in Bloem battle.”

“Exlusive expose: Suzi costs Kings before Cheetahs clash!”

  • 32.CharlesM: Reply to this comment

@Guns-22: Andries tried his best not to show any excitement when he scored his tries. He never smiled!! Now he knows what will be waiting in the next S15 – tackle…tackle …. tackle..etc !!!!!
How was Gareth’s prediction ? “Cheetahs by 10 points” LMAO !!!!!!

  • 33.ahasaid theclown: Reply to this comment

Big problem coming around the merry go round.. This Kings side is nowhere near ready for S15.. Cheetahs were toying with these guys like it was a practice game on a Sunday afternoon warm up. Imagine this Kings side going to Highlanders, Chiefs Hurricanes and Crusaders away.. massacre is going to sound like its a Xmas picnic party.
