Plumtree to reel in Baby Bok
22 Oct 2012
John Plumtree plans to use Baby Bok utility forward Pieter-Steph du Toit in the Sharks match-day squad for the Currie Cup final against Western Province.
Du Toit, who can play lock or flank, has been a key figure for the Sharks juniors in the U21 provincial tournament. He helped the team qualify for the semi-finals before they were knocked out by WP, who secured a 19-18 win at Kings Park thanks to a last-minute try.
Plumtree will promote the 20-year-old into the senior domestic squad for Saturday’s Currie Cup decider after his team’s disappointing line-out performances in recent weeks.
Du Toit has already played senior rugby for the Sharks this season during Super Rugby.
‘Our lineout work was not good [against the Bulls] and that’s one of Pieter-Steph’s strengths,’ Plumtree told Die Burger. ‘He is set to play a big role for us in Super Rugby next season, so it will be good for him to be part of the squad for the Currie Cup final.’
Du Toit featured for the Baby Boks during their Junior World Championship triumphant run in June, and also received a call-up to the Springbok training camps by Heyneke Meyer during Super Rugby.
Meanwhile, Plumtree also confirmed that there are no injury concerns after the semi-final victory over the Blue Bulls in Durban. Springbok tighthead prop Jannie du Plessis was taken off the field because of injury during the match, but is expected to be fit to play this weekend.

Bok bolter for EOYT?
Along with JC Janse Van Rensburg now that Coenie is out?
If Meyer doesn’t call up the likes of Steenkamp, Botha, Rossouw and Du Preez, me thinks the Bok squad is going to look something like this:
1. Mtawarira, Janse Van Rensburg
2. Strauss, Ralepelle
3. Du Plessis, Cilliers
4. Etzebeth, Van Der Merwe
5. Kruger, Steph Du Toit
6. Louw, Coetzee
7. Alberts, Deysel (let’s hope not Potgtier but hopefully Kolisi if fit)
8. Vermeulen, Daniel
9. Pienaar, Hougaard (lucky – youngsters like Reinach pushing hard)
10. Steyn, Jantjies
11. Habana, Basson
12. De Villiers, De Jongh
13. Taute, Engelbrecht
14. Pieterson, Mvovo (Mapoe if fit)
15. Kirchner, Lambie

Good to see young number 9s starting to put their hands up.
Reinach
Groom
Schreuder
and, when fit again, Van Zyl

@puff-5: Mapoe is not a wing, i think he proved that during the currie cup. Why have him at wing why???? Taute is clucthing on straws at 13.
22 Oct 2012, 12:10 pm
@mabu-4:
Easy with the insults! Awundazi nondazi! Uve nabani bandibutya utywala khona? Bekker wakho lowo, does not finish a season…

@mabu-7:
Mapoe is adept at both wing and outside centre.
I think he would be considered as a better option than Mvovo because of this utility value.
Players like Mapoe, Taute, Engelbrecht, Hougaard, Pieterson and Lambie are valued over and above their talents because of their ability to cover a few positions.
In some cases, it’s beneficial. In others, it can be detrimental to the player’s ambitions.
Look at what’s happening with Lambie (and with Brent Russell, Frans Steyn and Ruan Pienaar before him.)
JP Pieterson, in my opinion, was looking like the best wing in the world before he got injured.
Habana is back in form.
So I’d leave both of them on the wings.
I admit Jaco Taute did not have a great game against the ABs and his inexperience as a test-level 13 showed through.
I think 15 will be his best position, and I’m pleased that’s where the Stormers intend to play him.
22 Oct 2012, 12:25 pm
But I’d play Jacques Fourie at 13 ahead of everyone else.
That won’t happen for at least another two years, so
De Jongh
Taute
Engelbrecht
Mapoe
All potential options.
I really think Jordaan deserves an opportunity at some point (soon) though.
22 Oct 2012, 13:23 pm
9.hougaard
10.lambie
11.habana
12.steyn
13.jordaan
14.jpp
15.ludik

22 Oct 2012, 14:27 pm
@puff-9: Pace Puff, thats the concern at wing. besides that for the style of play SA rugby has, Mapoe is needed at 13, his leg strength is unbelievable.

22 Oct 2012, 15:23 pm
@puff-5: Seriously after this past weekend you still see Lambie as 2nd choice fullback? Its mind blowing
Meyer will take what he sees as his best team on the eoyt .He cant face anymore public ridicule. Instead of blooding youngsters like his predecessors have done ,hell be conservative and ultimately the Boks will be a step behind where they should actually be.
@mxhosa-3: He cant even make it ahead of either of the Marias brothers and then there is Bresler who is probably the most underrated lock in the country.
These players deserve special mention for the form and potential they showed this year;
Kolisi ,Bresler ,Ludik ,Combrink, Rhule ,Reinach,Kitzhoff and Stander.

Juy ngapo hertli werdiu unhase bali bosti ehhe.

This Kid should go with on the end of year tour even if just to learn. He has a bright future.
22 Oct 2012, 15:55 pm
@puff-5: Take Reinach with as a third. Hougaard anyway doubles as a wing.
Pieter Steph du toit
Reinach
Rhule
are the three Bolters i would take with on the EOYT.
22 Oct 2012, 15:57 pm

What about Anton Bresler?
He is from Namibia, i dont know about his passport and if he is able to play for the Boks but he definitely deserves a chance.
Has been outstanding this season.
22 Oct 2012, 23:11 pm
